Carfax/Autocheck question - NOT ASKING FOR CARFAX

I just ran an Autocheck for a car I'm interested in:

Auto Auction REPORTED AT AUTO AUCTION AS MANUFACTURER VEHICLE
What does Reported at Auto Auction as Manufacturer Vehicle mean? Does that mean it was used by Infiniti/Nissan for the first few years/46K miles?

Shoofin would most likely know. It may just be a leased vehicle that was returned to a dealer and then run through a dealer-only auction. I don't think it's all that uncommon for a manufacturer to do this.

I wanted to buy the car and decided to google the guy's e-mail address.

Found a post on a different forum talking about a tick in the engine the dealer won't cover.

I also ran Autocheck - came out clean.

Googled the VIN and found an old CARFAX from when the guy bought it that was still posted at the dealership he bought it from - which showed an accident.

sounds like you might be asking for more trouble than you bargain for with this M...what's the asking price on it? is it local?

as my rule of thumb, i never buy lease returns....unless it's CPO with extreme low mileage. they're like car rentals, where they're driven like stolen and then return to it's original owner.

^Hell yes!

It was an 06 with every option for $16,500 - I knew something was too good to be true. Back to looking at TL's.

BUT it doesn't always mean it's a leased vehicle. There are times that cars that are listed from the manufacturer direct (untitled vehicles), and offered to dealers, those are also listed as manufacturer vehicles too. A lot of times those cars are restricted to franchise dealers only as well..

that's too cheap for a fully loaded '06 M45 w/ low miles. definitely something is up. according to edmunds, it should be in the 24-26K range. mind telling us where you found it?

I was just afraid that it was a buy back.

Check the Appleton Craigslist. It's the only M45 there, he's asking $17900.

It wasn't from a dealer. I bought the car from my friend that works there. I will be detailing it this weekend.

It's an 05 TL 6-speed, navi, back up sensors, aspec kit with 67K. Synchros were replaced at 48K miles, front brakes a year old, rear brakes a month old.

I paid $16K+TTL

I tried getting him down more but he wouldn't budge. He was asking $17,900. It's impossible to find one with these options and I really wanted WDP/gray.

Also included was a set of OEM all weather mats and trunk tray. They're in the trunk right now but they're in mint condition.

I got 3 keys and 3 fobs from him (I'll be giving the third fob to my mother for her MDX as a spare since I have 2 for this one and 2 for my RL), I got all the books, first owners service records.

The car has two small door dings, very small and a tiny scratch that can use some touch up paint, otherwise it's in mint condition.

wow...being a friend and a private seller, that's a so so price according the edmunds. but i guess the market determines the going rate now so i guess it's all good, as long as you're happy! congrats!

I've searched everywhere for a car like this with these options and it's impossible to find. Edmunds factors in cars sold nationally to figure out the value, it does not give you a good idea of a price for each individual car, just gives you a decent estimate.

I looked at post sales at auctions and I saw 05's in white selling for 17500 at AUCTION...granted with miles in the mid-upper 40's but who knows if it had navi, aspec kit, or what condition it was in.

Sure, I could have bought an 04 5AT with no nav for 14K with same or slightly lower miles but it would be a different color and hardly even close to being the same car.

if you factor all that into the price then sure it makes sense but what i'm getting at is that he's a friend; a friend is suppose to help a friend, right?

My "friend" was selling it for $17,995 and was getting a ton of interest.

He paid $23K for it 2 years ago, he got it with 43K miles.

His wife even yelled at me last night when I was picking it up, she was very upset that he let it go for so low.

Awesome car, looking for one of these for my brother in law, but in automatic, same year or newer and around that many miles. It is really hard to find them that low at 16k, so you did do pretty well there.

Congratulations on the purchase.
