"hot" just means you like it
"you're old" means, you have to be old to like a Buick because it's...well a Buick.

i would take the 22 year old gnx over that any day.

It looks like the new genesis. my age requirement for buying a buick is 105. so when i am 105, we'll see.

Terry, that is sweet. It is the one car I long to own. Either an 86 or 87 (I think 87 was the last year). Now, make it a GNX and then we're talking beyond a wish.

Interesting. But what is more interesting is that it is a Buick with a license plate with what appears to be Chinese writing.

How sweet would it be if the Regal were RWD and had a turbocharged V6 option..... called the Grand National.

I think that's because Buick is supposed to have a big market in China!!! In fact, you may remember that the recent Buick concept car was actually designed in China.

I actually think that this Buick Regal is better looking than the new LaCrosse. It seems more sporty and European looking. Actually, the front is a bit Lexus-ish and the side profile is kind of like a cross between BMW and Opel.

Isn't it crazy that we are discussing Buicks here!? ROTFLOL

Man, I don't understand all of the hate towards this car! For a Buick, it is absolutely hot. Before the Genesis came out, there wasn't a Hyundai I would've been caught dead in. The Genesis (plus several other new cars) have made me totally rethink the stigma with a company's name/badge and truly see how great the actual product is. Buicks rank at the very bottom of my list, but after seeing the Enclave and now this LaCrosse....I'm game..

You have your opinions on design and what you like, but I find it hard to knock this one...

I think they hate it because it's a Buick. If this were, oh the new Accord, it'd be a different story.

Not really... Now if you said Subaru...

Anything that looks quite copied is not good looking. I like what Cadillac did with the CTS. Nothing like it, original, and the interior is to kill for. The Chinese Buick above looks mostly like an IS series with a fat front end, or closer to the Opel Insignia. I don't like GM passing off their "badge engineering" as new and fresh vehicles.

Are they doing better? Yes. Some of their designs are getting a lot better, but when you rent a new GM, and you see body gaps that are uneven (how about a tailgate on a Buick Rendevous (sic) with a 1/4 inch gap on one side, and a 1 1/2 inch on the other, and it had 200 miles on it and no accidents), why would I buy one? Sorry, they should have tried harder years ago.

I'll agree that GM went overboard with the "badge engineering" thing, but this car looks to be a sign of things truly changing at GM. Sure, it shares a platform with other cars, but I bet 95% of the buying public would'nt even know that it's the same as a Malibu underneath. You couldn't say that 10 short years ago, when the sole difference between a Regal and an Alero was the steering wheel badge. Considering GM's financial woes, this is an excellent attempt at reinventing itself (from manufacturing quality/processes to customer satisfaction)...platform sharing is probably necessary in order to get back on firm financial ground...

That's a negative... but way to assume why/how other people form their opinions .

Opinions are like assholes... everyone has one... and my asshole opinion is that it's ugly regardless of the make

I will admit that Buick is on the right track though. Question is... is it too little too late?

If you use that reasoning, almost all of the large Japanese luxury sedans would be classified as fugly, considering they blatantly rob styling cues from German automobiles. The Korean Genesis would be one of the worst offenders, robbing from Japanese AND German cars!

Wrong.

I've shown my mom the new Genesis sedan and she couldn't stop looking at it. Eventually I told her it was a Hyundai and she was like "oh really? wow!" and gradually went to "eh, its a little too big, and I don't know about how reliable it is" and walked away.

Believe it or not, I used to be a strictly Honda fanboy - fuck domestics, etc. and I used to seriously think that 67-69 Camaros were UGLY. Then I grew out of my biases, expanded my tastes and thus when I first saw the new Hyundai Genesis coupe/sedan, first saw the Buick Invicta concept, I thought wow, that looks really nice! Instead of ehh..... I don't know. and now everytime I see a mint RS/SS I get close to popping a boner, last time a Hugger Orange/black stripes 69 RS/SS did, I nearly screamed like a schoolgirl.

So I agree, if it were badged and marketed as the new Honda Accord...... you can bet that the masses, from AZ to you-know-what-tech.com would be mentally fapping away. Plus, the above is the only way I can explain how ANYBODY could possibly like the new 4G TL.

you ain't lyin'. Just imagine if the 4G TL was a Hyundai. They would have sold 2. One to a blind man and that same one to a used car lot after the eye surgery.

Who was even talking to you? I wasn't. And your opinion is just another one of many. Just b/c your mom wouldn't touch a Genesis b/c it's a Hyundai doesn't mean that's why people in this topic do not like this Buick

Just like the new TL is ass-nasty regardless of if the badge said Acura or Kia... same goes for this car. I would think it's ugly regardless of the badge. Not b/c it's a Buick... but b/c it's ugly.

So this is one-on-one chat now and not a forum? I guess no matter how much someone agrees or disagrees with you, only phile can reply.

If the new TL were badged as a Ssangyong (Chinese manufacturer) but was the same inside and out I'd bet my balls they wouldn't even sell 1/5 as many as they are now. As badge-unbiased as I like to see myself, I'd think the TL were even uglier than it actually is, though it looks the same, just going back to my post, I used to not care at all about old-school muscle cars, and they never changed in looks, the only thing that changed was my perspective. And yes, there are still people that judge looks with an open mind.... but from my experience it DOES have an effect. Hell, you could even argue that I think its hot because I'm biased towards GM's new cars.... and I wouldn't completely dismiss that.

Going off on a tangent, I used to love ribs.... long story short, I ate a whole rack of ribs, and then woke up later that night, feeling like my stomach twisted itself into a pretzel. I ended up spewing my ENTIRE dinner into the toilet, and now I can't even look at them, just because I associate them with a negative experience. It no longer makes my mouth water no matter how good it looks.... just sayin.

No one else quote me please..... this is strictly a discussion between me and juniorbean.

My quote is "quite copied", not styling cues. I understand, and appreciate taking some styling ideas and cues. Some cars look really good (The RSX comes to mind, looking like Subaru copied the under headlight bulge), but some are just horrendous (Kia Amanti anyone).

The Lexus LS of 1990 is not a good looking car, IMO. I think the S-Class of that time was also a bad looking car until it was redesigned in the late 90's, early 2000 time frame. I like certain luxo-boats, but just because it has a name brand on it, does not mean it is good to look at.

This brings me back full circle to the Buick in question. To me, if you took an IS-F, or a IS 250, and slapped that Buick face on it, you have what was pictured. I think that is a horrendous rip-off. The IS has some styling cues from other vehicles, but not a blatant rip off. The Buick (Chinese, go figure) pictured is a blatant rip off.

Now, the Cadillac CTS is beautiful, IMO. The look is not really from anything else, and has a lot of features for the money. Plus, it does not have a GM interior. It really looks upscale. I would most definitely buy one. And it would be the CTS-V. The new Malibu is a decent looking car, and the platform seems solid, but the interior is nowhere near where it should be. The Accord interior is far superior. I don't have much love for the Camry interior.

No hate on some of the cars (a handful), but GM as a whole has put out bad products for so long (has honda?) that quite a few people are turned off by them (including me). Are they getting better? Yes. Are the products getting better? Yes. Are they up to Honda standards ? (yes, they are the benchmark) No, not even close.

He was the one who was assuming something about why some people (which included me) did not like this car, and yes, I quoted him and was replying to him specifically to let him know that his assumption (which included me) was wrong. Hence me quoting him and addressing him directly.

So, yes, what you quoted when you replied to me was specifically for him. It's odd that someone else (in this case you) could disagree with me when I was talking about a specific comment someone else made. I then was directing my comments directly to them to let them know that their comment, which was in part directed at me, was not accurate.

Bottom line: How can you disagree with me telling him that his assumption of how I formed my opinion was wrong? That's why I replied saying I wasn't talking to you... b/c I wasn't and there's no way you can disagree with me on that specific comment.

The other point I was trying to make was that I don't care if someone agrees or disagrees with me. It's my opinion and it's not going to change. It's an ugly car and I don't like it. I don't care if you are going to give me 20 more examples and even change the examples from cars to food to women or whatever. I still think the car the OP posted (which is what this topic is about) is ugly. I also have no idea why you keep bringing up how well other ugly cars sell b/c of their badge. That has nothing to do with this car being ugly and me not liking it.

Did you personally have some input into the design of this car? Why is it so important to you that I like it?

Quick Reply: Is this car hot or am I getting old?
