Car & Driver wrecked their beloved BMW 328i
In the Feb.01 Long-Term test on the BMW 328i, they had a slight fender bender with an oak tree. At first sight, they thought the damage was very minor. The repair bill came to $28,458. The bill was 11 pages long with $14,778 in parts and $11,898 in labor. That serves them right for not giving Acura their props!

Love the TL, CL, and BMW. Have you guys driven a Bimmer? I know the 540i isn't really comprable, but the 330Ci is a very nice ride in hadling, ride, and power. Not busting anyone's chop cuz you're all entitled to your opinion but I use to talk shit about the IS300 until I drove one. You can't tell me that you wouldn't buy a 330Ci if you had the money. Let me rephrase that cuz I know I'll get flamed for that comment . If you were given a choice of free 330Ci or CL-S you would honestly take the CL-S?

If you threw in maintenance cost, insurance cost and an SUV for winter driving, I would consider the Bimmer……Otherwise I’ll stick with ACURA.

I guess the handling on that BMW wasn't as good as Car And Driver said. If it was surely they could avoid that tree. That wasn't a fender bender either...it was a wreck.

honestly I think were really lucky...we're getting the benefit of acura trying to reestablish it self in the upscale market IMO
this car is worth 5K$ more than we paid for it...but in order to get them out there and for maybe some non Honda die hard fans to convert it's less for now

WEll, Just b/c they give the 330w/sport package a better rating doesn't mean that they don't give Acura props. The fact is that the 330 with sport package is a better car the the CL-S. IT may cost a hell of a lot more but hey if you have the money what does it matter?

However, being stuck in the land of congestion, I have to drive to clients in 1-25 mph traffic *and* the manual gets really tiring after a while. They are putting speed bumps through local canyons and local streets, so the fun rides are getting shorter and shorter around here.
So, given the choice (cost no object), WITH NO manual tranny, I looked at the Acura CL-S as a great car stock (Good for in town/in traffic, good for economy, good for fast line and corners). I figured if the car was as good as it is with dead stock, then the car would be killer with a few mods. I kind of feel like the Acura is my new "test" platform for exciting additions while still being able to be stuck in traffic.
Important:
I know a couple of gals that had older Acuras and never had a problem. They know a service manager that went from Acura to BMW for more $$$. They talked to him one day on my behalf (about reliability, etc) he said that I thought the BMW was OK, but really thought the Acura was very well made with less problems.
Some people had some nasty hits while in their 2001 CL Type-S *and* walked away quite scared, but quite safe.
I may have bought the BMW if they had a Acura's service record, *and* a true F1 type automatic (manual with electronic actuation), and a bit more seat width.

To EricL...........as a former long, long time LA resident.....Say it isn't so! Speed bumps in canyon roads???? Laurel, Coldwater, Malibu??? Oh I hope not. One more in a series of politically correct California hairballs. By the way the BMW wasn't totaled because the sticker was at 39K+ (with options) for a replacement--hence the hefty repairs went ahead.

If you like short cuts, you will hate where the speed bumps are going. They want all of the cars running down the main streets, and want to keep people from using alternative routes. Beverly Hills has some back roads that now have speed bumps. Some of the main drags have no-left-turn signs to keep the cattle rolling down the 10mph cattle runs.
I just started seeing a new round of the bumps in the last few weeks...
Maybe, someone will post a short cuts ruined board!

Dan P., who has an excellent Audi S4 site, had to replace his tranny due to bizzare galling problem at 3,000 miles or so. New S4 transmission, installed, $14,000! The German stuff ain't cheap...........

Well, since my 'Vette is on the way, I guess that puts me firmly in the 'domestic' camp. However, any BMW driver - excepting Mssrs. Schumacher & Montoya of course - will have plenty of opportunity to talk about what a big, plastic, ungainly, cheap looking butt the Z06 has as I blow past them! And that's the name of that tune, Jack.
