Can you suggest a car for my friend
This car will be driven daily from NJ to NYC, about 90 miles round trip. Will occasionally be used for trips to Virginia. The weather can get bad around here so AWD is preferred.
Requirements:
Must be reliable
Get good gas mileage
Compact for city parking
A/C, power windows/locks
again, must be reliable, will be used for years to come!
Current car:
2001 Toyota Camry CE, bought new, currently has 120,xxx miles. Still runs decent, but it's slowly dying
Looking to spend as little $$ as possible! (13-18k ?) What do you guys think about Hyundais..? Can you really go wrong w/ an $13k elantra w/ a 100,000 mile warranty
also been looking at used imprezas (rs), but they are more $ and don't know anything about the longevity of these cars

the sole purpose of this car is to get from point A to point B. no need for the speed of a wrx, or luxory of a sonata.
i was quickly browsing through some manufacturer sites and noticed that corollas, sentras, civics, etc. can all be had for around the same price as the elantra (around $13-14k). how would you guys compare these cars to one another? any suggestions/experiences?

Ford Focus or Chevy Cobalt....don't care for the Korean shit....parts aren't cheap.
The GM 2.2L Ecotec engine is VERY easy to service and the engine in the Focus is actually a Mazda engine. Both are good.
BTW, what's wrong w/the Camry? Is it sludging up?

People suggesting WRX need to remember it uses Premium gas cause of the turbo...not very cost effective for an A to B'er.
Whoever suggested the MazdaSpeed6 needs to read the thread before replying...
Hyundais have become a pretty decent car from what I've seen and heard. You also cant go wrong with a civic or corolla.
Is AWD THAT important? Maybe a used CRV or something then?

new corrolla is hands down the best car for 13k new. I love honda's and I love the new Civic, but the corrola's interior is very nice for a 13k car, gas mileage is around 32 overall, 130hp and it's pretty responsive(not slow), compact and has a very roomy interior. Corolla's are also arguably the most reliable car that is made. My wife has 155k on her 98 and it runs great, shows no signs of falling apart at all. either a corolla or a civic would be a wise choice.

Try to find a low mileage Eagle Talon TSI AWD. Yes it will be hard to find one, but you cant go wrong with that motor. Just my I had 2 TSI AWD, great cars but I love my CL-S6 better!!!

Probably look at a corolla ce, can get em for about 13k and its a refined compact. It only snows about 1 week a year here and if it was that bad that awd was needed I'd stay home cause it probably take 4hrs to get to ny.
