Can this bumper be legal?

I have a friend who hit this truck while she was trying to park. Totalled messed up her car but the truck was fine.

My question is... does she have any chance at fighting back even though it was her fault for hitting it?

Would hate to get hit by that thing.

She just told me that she just left since the truck had no damage but she has the license plate number.

The bumper type is not illegal. However if it is above your states bumper height law,(all states have 1) then the setup would be illegal.

Here in Texas...there are crazy scary bumpers on huge trucks... that bumper in the pic would be the "LITE" version down here... if she hit a parked car/ truck... she pretty much jacked herself... it could have been anything she hit... and it would still be her fault... bumper height laws... yes they exist, but I dont know anyone who has gotten a ticket /fine... My car is fairly low, so I could get one too... IMVHO

Well yea i figured it was her fault either way.

Im just shocked this type of bumper that looks to be a solid piece of metal would be legal, regardless of height.

Here in the Tejas... they have rear ones that look worse than that...with a tow hitch to give you that extra "crunch" when someone hits you from behind...I have seen all manner of bad injuries from cars going under lifted trucks in DFW and Houston area accidents...

i remember I wanted to get one of those for my old landcruiser. I remember reading a review of the bumper I wanted that said he hit a deer on the highway going aboug 70, and it litterally 'popped like a waterballoon'. That made me want it even more.

You ever seen the huge chrome bumpers on 70's and 80's cars ?

Back in 1973, the feds mandated stricter bumper laws... which made bumpers bigger, not smaller... That's why cars like the BMW 2002 had cool looking bumpers pre-1973, but shitty looking ones post 1973.

You can pretty much run anything you want as a bumper, as long as it meets height requirements.. and meets other federal standards:

lol there are tons of those ranch bumpers out here. basically a pickup looks pussy without one.

I remember at my old job I parked a step van outside our administrative offices and a lady backed up into the steel bumper....totally fucked her 07 camrys rear bumper and nothing was wrong with the truck.
