I mentioned my dad having a '10 Challenger SRT.
I've had a months worth of seat time.

the seat bolsters are awesome and very comfy. I'm a small guy but they hugged me well. I had a 6foot tall 400lb guy sit in the passenger seat. all he could say was "OMG this is soo comfortable"

At first I thought the skip shift feature was a bad tranny issue.
then, started researching and found that it is a feature.
if you're going less than a set MPH it wont allow you to shift into 3rd.
it only allows you to go from 2 to 4.
most people disable this feature, through a tune or a shift skip block plate.

the torque is what sold me on the car.
by 2.5k RPM every one that was at the light with you, are now WAAAAAY behind you.

but compared to the other pony cars, this one is slow.

sure the interior, particularly the dash area is bland...but you're not buying the car for its interior.
the exterior and driving experience make up for it.

the onboard computer with the 0-60, g-forces, and other performance testing features is fun!

The other two are faster on paper.

People who know how to drive them on the other hand tell a different story. The playing field is actually fairly level.

A tune and some bolt ons...whole different beast.

There isn't much to separate the 3 performance wise, and even if there is, does a few tenths either way really matter besides bragging rights? Each will be damn fun and damn fast.

You have to go with what you like best/feel most comfortable in. Throw acceleration times and MPG out the window.

Since you've eliminated the Mustang....the Challenger is probably the best drivers car....Bigger...comfy...but probably thirstier than the SS.

The SS is a bit claustrophobic. Line of sight out is very limited.

From what I understand, the '11 Challenger has a reworked the suspension, making the car handle far better and feel smaller.

If it's a weekend/pleasure car I'd go with the Mustang vert. If it's serving other duties, I'd likely go SRT8. Don't get me wrong, I love the Camaro, but I just see so many of them that the SRT8 stands out a bit to me.

Otherwise, go vert. It's always more fun with the top down. Don't believe me? Bang your girl with her shirt on, then go topless... which is more fun? For pleasure, Topless > *

No...the 2011 Challenger by all accounts is much improved...still not on the Stang's level of handling/performance...but way better than the 09/10 Challengers.

I don't think the OP wants to go with an 11 Chally. If he wanted an '11 Challenger...the RT would be the best way to go...get the reworked chassis and still have a 370 HP V8...and keep costs somewhat under control.

The '11 SRT's are BIG bucks...for less money than that, he could get a Boss 302, which would destroy anything in the class, as far as performance goes....but still he'd have to beware of the 6MT.

Drive a similarly-equipped 2011+ Mustang GT before or after you drive that convertible. I guarantee you that you'll notice a difference... whether it's tolerable or not is up to you.

I'm sure the 2011+ convertible isn't like a Fox Body of old. In general even new convertibles tend to be more sluggish - in straight lines or otherwise - and less confidence inspiring than their hardtop counterparts.

The chassis can more than handle it.

The 08-10 SRT suspension is by no means garbage, its quite capable. and upgrading the suspension is easy and relatively inexpensive.

Yes, the 11 SRT is MUCH improved..and now the 12 SRT has a dual mode suspension. But not so much that I would totally discount the 08-10, especially based on the price you can acquire them at now.

If we were really talking about a 10 RT vs a 11 RT...yeah, HUGE difference stock for stock.

The new SRTs aren't really big bucks, especially when you tack on the deals people have been making on them.

Because of safety requirements, etc convertibles add weight and reduce strucural rigidity, so verts tend to have more body roll and slop along with being heavier.

And 0-60 doesn't mean much dude... just drive all three, get the one that you like the most.

Nice blanket statement. How do you figure? Especially for a pleasure vehicle? Likely will never see the track, likely will never be driven too hard, likely will just be used for cruising, meets and get-togethers.

Of course a hard-top is more rigid and handles better (typically weighs less too), but if none of those features are being utilized, there's no need to go hard-top...

i drove my friends 11' V6 Challenger and it was very nice to drive. better than the V6 camaro i thought. i havent driven the mustang yet.

So I just got back from the test drive in the Challenger and I was surprised. The suspension is great. It rides smoother than the TL in a different kind of way. The seats are really comfortable. The sound is just wow.

Overall rating:
Acceleration - 8.5 and you can feel that it is suffocating.
Handling - 8
Ride - 8.5
Looks - 9 (especially with the metallic black...it hides dust)
Interior - 7.5
Shifting - 9.5
Room - 7.5 but kills the other two in truck and rear seat.

Overall 8.5. I think it's a winner.


As this will be my daily driver (the wife fell in love with the Optima) I need a bit of room and a comfortable ride. I still find it hard to believe how well it handles jarring bumps and still has very little body roll.
We have the right price on the car, but they're low balling me on the trade. I'll wait it out a bit risking losing it.

I went this morning and took out the Camaro. I had driven the 6 cyl base models as rentals 2 or 3 times and was ok with them. The 2SS just rips in performance, but I was not impressed with the ride or the interior. Plus the lack of room will turn out to be a big issue for me in time. The dealer was a Hyundai dealer too. I took out the 2012 Genesis sedan while I was here. They have come so far with it over the 2009. The suspension is almost perfect now.

Since you like the Challenger and the dealer is giving you a hard time on the trade, why not start exploring a newer (still pre-owned) RT? maybe even save a few bucks. There should be plenty of cars available outside of these 3 no?

Yes, out of the three for sure. I haven't touched a Dodge since 99 and hope the quality lasts. I was impressed with how they put it together.

That will be the next step. A newer SRT would be preferable though over the RT. Even the 09 SRT has 50bhp over the newer RT. If I can pick up this 09 it would end up about $4k less than a similarly equipped RT.
