Is buying a used CTS with 10K a good idea?
some preliminary research tells me no... (can't seem to find any CPO 10K or less)
should i be looking for a different car altogether?
used honda/toyota ftw, until i have a bigger budget a few years down the road?

My preliminary research shows that you have a brand new TSX. Are you looking for a beater car? A second car that is about $10K, or would you like to have a CTS but can't afford it? Need more info.

Sorry for not providing more info in my OP.
Nothing wrong with my TSX, it's going no where for a long time.
$10,000 at most for a used CTS.
It's gonna be a daily driver.
I want to avoid 2003 if possible, since it's the first year model. (kind of hypocritical of me to say so I know, since I own a first year 2g tsx lol)
Obv I would prefer if it had some kind of (extended) warranty on it.
Is this just not a good idea, and should I wait until I have more money for a CTS?
PS: Not influenced by neuronbob .

Is there some reason you are choosing a CTS? Or are you open to other vehicles? I have a very good friend who just got rid of hers the end of last year. It was in the shop ALL the time with problems such as dead batteries, changing alternator, new starter. And hers was a 2005.

Is english a second language for you?
Because I'm trying to figure out how someone comes up with "I want to buy a CTS with 10k" to mean "I want to buy a CTS for ten thousand dollars"
And if it is your second language, you're pretty good at it
If it isn't, lord in heaven.

Yeah, a CTS for $10K isn't going to get you much... 2003 V6 with 75K plus miles or so on it...

I'd rather have a TSX

My neighbor is on his 3rd CTS. Never had any issues with any of them His latest one is the new 2nd gen. He had a 04 and a 06, i really liked the 06 (liked it better than my TL by leaps and bounds) The new 2nd gen is better looking than most every thing out there in category. Though i dont know what to expect for 10k

thanks fstty, good to hear.
ok, i've given it some more thought and i have some more funds available.
$15,000
must be 2004 or later
must have sunroof
color must be white/black
any interior
right now im searching on autotrader/cars.com with a max price of $17,000 - 18,000. I figure i can knock off at least a few Gs from sticker.
thoughts?

You should e able to get CPO at any GM dealer (I think, but others here may correct me), but definitely go to reputable dealers, and not the "shade tree" places that get salvage cars and make them look pretty.
If not, then have a mechanic look at the car when you take it for a test drive.

Just a thought... If you get a great deal from buying from a Private Party or Auction/wholesaler then would it be worth to research into 3rd party warranty or extended warranty from GM (if there is one..)

I would do that, and also ask about vehicles that have come off of lease. Those are the best cared for, usually. But those may be a bit pricey.

do u mean bring a mechanic with me for the test drive, or drive it to a mechanic during the test drive?
then grab a 3rd party warranty?
ty all for the help
my main concern is getting a good warranty for it... with the limited funds, there isn't much $$$ in the reserve if i have to fix shit down the road.
