Bumper accident. Adding paint job of whole car. Shops?
Rear ended, damage to bumper and rear passenger quarterpanel.
$1600 estimate with damage under the bumper and an alignment cost to be added later. (Law says the shop cannot write the under the bumper estimate until they see it.) Parts n paint all genuine Ac. So lets just round off it's gonna be +2000- These quotes are from 2 shops that 2 seperate Ac dealerships recommend.
I want to pay out of pocket to add a paint job to entire car. Any shops that will do this for good price/quality? How much? Quality paint job only.
Qualifyers: I am not trying to gouge-lowball any shop. But since the car would already be in the shop, taped up, labor/talent on hand, that could make an add on easier. Plus with the economy what it is and with myself getting no long overdue pay raises, I'm doing what i gotta do. Maybe some shops are in similiar circumstances. I know there is a whole range on prices, from $500 at Tijuana or Earl Shriebs to 7K to make it like factory. Looking for best price while keeping quality high.
It was other parties fault, her insurance should pay the bumper and related parts. If they weasle, mine will. That's all being handled and i have consulted an atty if they try any bull. My question is about the add on paint job.
Any shops in SoCal known? Any experiences if from other then SoCal? Please keep it to factual solid responses only. No "my cousins aunts daughters aunts gerbils dogs brother heard". "You get what you pay for." I've already heard this, maybe so, but again who knows what quality shops/workers can do. Again I'm not looking to lowball but I'm also not going to turn down a quality job at a price that their circumstances allow both of us to be happy.

Around here in VA an average (good) job being the same color is $3000-$5000. The majority of your $2000, is either a new bumper then painted off the car and put on or the fixing of the quarter panel. It's still going to be a lot extra since the whole car won't technically be taped up, just the rear that's being painted and plastic all over the whole car. You have all the trim pieces to remove, door jams, windows to individually tape up, sand and prep the whole car... I'd say it would at least be another $3000.00, since out of the $2000.00 your receiving, maybe $800 is actually paint related.

+1 on Mob Works.
I hear great things from my friends about Auto Explosion.... I would suggest you post in the San Diego meets thread, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

2001 CLs and while I have maintained it very well, age is age paintwise.
The front passenger fender was obviously repainted at one point, even tho i bought it certified and it had purportedly never been repainted anywhere. (I was a noob then, good detail guy Ryan in Pacific Beach pointed it out to me after i bought it.) He has one of those gizmos that measures the thickness of paint. Whole car was good and then bam that front fender was 1/4th of the rest.
So, along with my original post why not paint the whole thing if a shop has the circumstances to make it good for both of us.

Just rapped with Mitch, thank you.
Right now the insurances are still squabbling over who takes responsibility.
If it ends up being Western General that will suck.
Mitch asks do you still have your Ac?

for those who are in OC, spread the word: M.O.B. Works sucks. Miguel is a good painter, but the rest of his lackies are idiots. The shop's quality control is non-existant, and their overall paint work is eh.
Backyard Creations in El Monte is head and shoulders above what M.O.B. Works puts out nowadays.
Nighthawk,
You're in San Diego - there's no reason to come all the way up to Orange County/LA area.
Here's some San Diego bodyshops I've had friends take their cars to:
Candy's Auto Body Shop
(619) 546-6237
2691 Newton Ave
San Diego, CA 92113 (ask for Chico); and
http://www.jocsonsautobody.com/ (Ask for Aaron)
both do great paint jobs from what i hear.
