Natural News (formerly NewsTarget, which is now a separate sister site) is a conspiracy website[2] that sells various dietary supplements, and promotes alternative medicine, controversial nutrition and health claims,[3] fake news,[4][5][6] and various conspiracy theories,[7] such as "chemtrails",[2] chemophobic claims (including the purported dangers of fluoride in drinking water,[8] anti-perspirants, laundry detergent, monosodium glutamate, aspartame), and purported health problems caused by allegedly "toxic" ingredients in vaccines,[3][2] including the now-discredited link to autism.[9] It has also spread conspiracy theories about the Zika virus allegedly being spread by genetically modified mosquitoes[10] and purported adverse effects of genetically modified crops, as well as the farming practices associated with and foods derived from them.[11]

Criticism and controversies

According to The Atlantic, Natural News is one of the most prominent anti-vaccination websites on Facebook.[2] An article in the journal Vaccine said the site "tend(s) to not only spread irresponsible health information in general (e.g. discouraging chemotherapy or radiation for cancer treatment, antiretrovirals for HIV, and insulin for diabetes), but also have large sections with dubious information on vaccines."[24]

The fact is, none of them are a Zero Emissions (Nissan badge) vehicle. I do not need a report to know that having worked in a lab most of my life. Clueless people would think otherwise. Some people think batteries and electricity grows on trees?

That would be most people on forums that believe they are getting HP from an aftermarket air filter...without a dyno run. Saw that a few weeks ago and could not help but laugh.

Can't believe most people think there are zero emission from producing electricity.

Sorry AZuser...didn't bother reading any of those. Like the other report, they also have an agenda. So, if we ALL went electric, will we ALL be able to charge our cars? Hell, most summers I am told not to use my AC in the home on the hot days...guess I am not going to work the next morning. Too many disadvantages to electric plus they are not zero emissions....false advertising on Nissan's part.

Yes, their agenda is to correct the :bs: of "studies" like the one you linked to. It's fine if you don't want to read them. Stay ignorant.

That depends...

https://www.energy.gov/eere/vehicles...ypically-draws

Electric vehicles can be charged at power draws comparable to various household appliances. Most electric vehicles charging at home on a 240-volt level 2 charger will draw about 7,200 watts or less. For comparison, a typical electric furnace draws about 10,000 watts and a water heater uses 4,500 watts. The power draw for an electric vehicle is limited by either the electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) or the vehicle’s onboard charger which limits the rate of electricity the vehicle can accept. Many first-generation plug-in vehicles have onboard chargers limited to 3,600 watts, similar to the power draw for a typical home air conditioning system, while newer electric vehicles have increased onboard charging rates. Some owners use only a standard 120-volt household outlet (level 1 charging) which has a very slow charge rate and low power draw compared to the level 2 charging. There are some electric vehicles, such as those produced by Tesla, that allow for even greater home charging speeds and higher power draws similar to an electric furnace. While an electric vehicle can draw a considerable amount of electricity when charging, the overall fuel cost for an electric vehicle is lower than a comparable gasoline vehicle.

So now your complaint isn't that electric cars are dirtier than diesel vehicles (depends on region, but generally they're not and even in those places where it currently is such as in Munich where the study's authors are from, it won't be in 5-10 years), it's that they're not truly zero emissions?

No duh! As the jalopnik article you didn't bother to read concluded about your linked study...

No, electric cars aren’t perfect. They demand a massive amount of resources, resources that are finite just like all fleeting ephemera of this universe, and which will surely run out sooner than would be convenient for us to find replacement technology.

But that’s not the argument being made. This particular whole argument is stupid.

Exactly.

But politics (the Greens) and advertising agencies like you to believe otherwise. False advertising in anybody's books. And it does not matter if electricity is produced with coal or nuclear (lets not talk about battery production and waste). They both have their disadvantages that I can live with otherwise we are in the dark ages. I just don't need some corporation BSing me with zero emissions.

So the article isn't that accurate as you put it. Like I have always said, "the internet is the greatest source of unconfirmed information"...especially when reading forums. I can't comment on this one since very little technical stuff is discussed, but on some others, its better than yuk yuks comedy club. We should start a thread on that one.

Nope. Never said I believe there's zero carbon footprint with EV's.

EV's aren't perfect. I know they're not. So because they're not and they're not truly zero emissions (zero carbon footprint) we should wait and continue to drive more polluting vehicles until something better comes along that is truly zero emissions? :whyme:

Nissan's claim that their EV's are Zero Emissions isn't false advertising. You're attaching your definition of what zero emissions should mean (zero carbon footprint?) to their usage. When Nissan says it's zero emissions they mean there's zero emissions coming out of the vehicle tailpipe because there's no tailpipe.

Where is Nissan claiming that there's zero carbon footprint?

"Isn't that accurate." That's putting it mildly. The article is pure :bs: just like their claims that vaccines spread diseases and are destroying the body and mind.

It wouldn't surprise me if they think the earth is flat too.

Innovation needs to be considered as well. There are other electrical storage options being developed such as longer storage capacitors and batteries with different chemistry than the current lithium-ion tech. Without economical demand, which motivates businesses to spend on R&D as well as government subsidy, innovation in these area's will be slowed considerably.

Lithium prices have been steadily increasing for quite a while now. It's actually come down from a high of about $150 at the beginning of 2018 due to increased mining activity. It's down to about $110 now. However, it was <$70 in 2016.

As lithium prices continue to rise but demand for electric vehicles increases, manufacturers are going to continue exploring alternative options to electrical storage - which is what we need.

MarkoK 06-06-2019 02:16 PM

I'm also pretty sure the disposal of lithium-ion batteries is pretty terrible for the environment, think about 60 years from now when people have teslas rotting away in the back of their farms the way people have old muscle cars rotting away now. When the cases rust or the plastic breaks down and whatever is in those batteries starts getting into the earth I can't imagine that would be great.

No, really, anything with "Bombshell" is probably garbage. No red text here people. It's either garbage or written by a 7th grader.

It's not just Tesla who recycle batteries either.

https://www2.greencarreports.com/new...s-battery-dies

. . . .

After being removed, the battery pack is sent to specialist recycling firm Kinsbursky Brothers in Anaheim, California -- the same firm responsible for recycling used lithium-ion battery packs from Tesla.

On arrival at the specialized facility, battery packs are broken down into their constituent parts, with nickel being smelted down for stainless steel used in making refrigerator doors, while rare-earth elements, plastic casings and electrolyte are all recycled into appropriate industries.

Ultimately, the whole process is a win-win scenario for everyone involved: dealers get extra custom, and customers get to choose between a newer model with even better gas mileage or a new battery pack. More importantly perhaps, not a single traction battery pack ends up in landfill, proving that batteries -- no matter what their chemistry -- are still the most recycled consumer product.

https://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/05/...vironment-and/

When a Prius battery pack reaches end of life, Toyota provides a UPS shipping container so the battery can be sent to a recycling center. For U.S. cars, that center is in California. The batteries are shorted out to prevent accidents with any remaining charge, then all of the components are disassembled. The plastic case is shredded and recycled. The electrolyte is decanted and the rare earth elements recovered. The nickel plates are sent to a smelter where they are used in making steel. All the components of the pack are recycled or reused, leaving nothing to go to the landfill. The same recycler is already equipped to deal with the lithium batteries found on the Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, and plug-in Prius.
