Santa Monica Blvd... I thought that looked familiar

mrmako 04-14-2009 05:35 AM

Too bad, i was hoping Audi would win (have to root for the underdog, not the Uberdog).

CLSpeedster 04-14-2009 07:55 AM

I dont think Audi is a BMW underdog anymore. They offer just as many if not more models, and have a supercar (the R8), even which BMW doesn't have yet. Plus BMW interiors are still outdated looking and bland.

gotta love billboard ads

sr4dt 04-14-2009 09:12 AM

Audi is launching some real strong AD campaigns. Q5s swipe at RX and now A4 billboard

better pic of it from BMW blog:

BMW and Audi are dueling again, but this time, onto the “marketing battle field”. And what would be the best place to do so other than the one of the top states when it comes to car luxury sales: California. In Santa Monica, Audi has put up some billboards showing the all new Audi A4 along with the headline: “Your move, BMW”. BMW took on the challenge and entered a virtual chess game ….of course, with cars rather than pons, kings or queens.

Yea a RS4 would look really nice in Audi's ad too. Way for BMW to pit its Flagship coupe against Audi's base car. Just wait til the RS5 comes out!

FiveLiterCheater 04-14-2009 10:06 AM

I'm probably the only one that doesn't like the new A4...i'd probably take the facelifted E90...don't stone me!

I concure, especially if you look at the non-navigation models, they look so plain. I know that materials are very good quality, but I always get a sense that they didnt invest much time, effort and money on designing new interior.

It adds more of that feeling because all of the models (135, 325, 335, SUV's), and for different years, they all have same interior design.

I mean, people say they are classic design, but I think thats sugar coating it. Of course its classic, it been around +20 year non changed. Its boring outdated Classic style for me, especially non-navigation models.

taitando 04-14-2009 10:24 AM

If Audi puts up a Billboard with an R8 against the M3, what do you think it would say? And how do you think BMW would retaliate?

They wouldn't. They have nothing to compete with it. Looks-wise or performance-wise.

nokiaman 04-14-2009 10:54 AM

Woah, I didn't expect this to turn into a BMW vs Audi thread. I think both appeal to a certain type of buyers and both manufacturers obviously have their own share of the market. As for the R8, the upcoming V10 will seal all who were criticizing the 4.2 powerplant.:toocool:

Whats wrong with a high reving, small displacemnt V8? I beleive Jeremy Clarkson from Top gear stated in a quote, " I am most likely sitting about 4 feet from one of the greatest engines ever made." I mean how can you not be happy with a 8250 redline?

Not really, Audi si showing its base model A4 there, and BMW threw up its Flagship coupe M3. Id like to see the reactions if they put up the new RS5. I think it would be very different then.

I don't think you get it.

It's not about "what" car they put up in the ad...it's BMW's response that makes it great....they played their "trump" card.

I get ti alright, I just think its a cheap move, like always for BMW to make.

Their trump card was a jack of diamonds.

Audi whips out their V10 R8 and that's the ace of spades.

Game over.

Can we mix game metaphors some more? The M3 is Marvin Gardens! *runs*

 I want Park Place.

...it's not like BMW jumped out of the class...they stayed with the 3 series / A4 class.

A very witty ad by Audi, that got outplayed by BMW.

Marketing 101...don't bring your knife to the gunfight.
Did Audi really think BMW was going to respond with a 328i?

...perhaps Audi should respond with the R8

CLSpeedster 04-14-2009 01:45 PM

A few years ago I remember a ad that Audi put out to rag on BMw for winning engine of the year.

"Congrats BMW, for winning engine of the year, from the 8 time winners of LeMans."

It was something along those lines.... I enjoyed it.

exactly, it doesn't matter what car is there...the general public will not know the difference. Hell most don't even look at the car....and 99% probably don't know the 3 series is an M3

IMO, BMW won this one as well (esp. since if i'm not mistaken they weren't even competing in prototype then)....but Bentley's response was my favorite (subaru was great too). 99% of the world could careless about racing pedigree....esp. prototype. Moog is dead right, you don't get it

Those two dealers are a block from each other.

I literally used to live half a block from the bimmer dealer. I could see them from my door.

BMW's got nothing on the R8 and up coming RS5 IMO
