haha~~
says a lot about BMW
good thing i got an acura...
i was actually considering a 323i when i was getting my car
newayz
i have another bimmer story
my friend got a 330ci not too long ago
with a full bodykit and rims in a grey
when i say the car i thought it was tight
a few days later i see the same kid driving a shit ford and asked him what happened
unfortunatly he drove to this friends house
(he mentioned that his heat gauge had been buggin out but forgot it thinking it was a minor problem, or seomthing)
his car stalls and smoke comes out of his hood...once he opened his hood the coolant fluids were bubbling outta the engine and he had it towed and the parts replaced
supposively a certain amount of ci's produced on certain days had defects in the ECU's causing all this trouble
my car so far.....
trouble keeping it under 100mph
=p

I had an older Bimmer, but for a different reason the model I had always ran HOT!!!!
I had about every friend blow a cylinder gasket or crack a head (that was a long time ago), and only their dignity was hurt (just a few oil fires).
I finally had special radiators built (with big electric fans), and carried a couple of Halon exstinguishers in the car (just in case, and they were legal back then).
Perhaps BMW can put in a "fire-control" system (just like some airplanes). Maybe, they can get an exception and run some ozone killing Halon bottles to keep the folks safe.
Man, that is scary -- especially if you had a child sleeping above a garage that was not up to code.

BMW engines always run hotter than anything else that I have seen. The hotter temp is normal (for a BMW), while it may be hot relative to other cars. The problem is not what the heat does to the engine, but what the heat does to plastic radiator clips and intake hoses

You guys are such a jealous bunch of fools.
Why is this such a big deal?
If I were to spend a little time researching nearly ANY car, I'm sure I could find common defects among them, some of them serious.
Boy, I better hurry up and sell my M3 just in case it catches fire or something
Grow up, people.

Tom,
You have to admit an unattended car catching fire and taking out a garage is as about as serious as it can get. I'm not bashing BMW, but I think this goes way beyond "stuff happens".
And it's not engines overheating or running hot that are starting the fires - it's an electrical short.
Here's the story:
BMW Recalls Heat Up
Two separate problems detected
Don’t be confused by the nearly simultaneous reports of cooling-related defects in BMW vehicles. The first recall, of 2001 models, affects up to 22,345 3, 7, Z8 and X5 Series vehicles with a faulty engine cooling fan switch that could malfunction and, in some cases, cause a fire. The second recall deals with a faulty thermostat that causes the interior heater to malfunction in about 22,000 3, 5 and 7 Series models built between October 1998 and March 2000. The two recalls are unrelated.
As for the fire-related problem, BMW says it may eventually include certain 5 Series models in the recall, but so far the company has insufficient data. At least two underhood fires linked to engine cooling fans have occurred in the past two weeks. “We’re watching the 5 Series situation closely,” says a BMW spokesman.

Who said you were 21? Or 41 for that matter?
If you've been around for 41 years (and a big shot executive), I'd expect a little better grammar from you. You sound like you're about 16 years old to me......

Fact of the matter is that it has been determined to be a faulty SUPPLIER part that is causing the fires, not any engineering/assembly problems with the BMW itself.
It's amazing to me that there are many people that believe that an automobile manufacturer makes ALL the parts contained in their cars...... There are a lot of seriously misinformed people in the world.....

Of course its a serious problem. But do you think that BMW is the only manufacturer to ever have this problem? Do a little research, and you'll find that MOST if not ALL manufacturers have had this problem on one or more of the cars in their line-up. But for some reason, when BMW has this problem, it's HUGE news. Go figure.

My othere frind has a 323 and the airbags keep popping out for nothing, nearly broke his nose once, Everyone I knew or know had some type of electronic problems, and BMW refused to fix it under warrenty cuz they hit something or tinted the car..LOL
Hitting something or getting tints will make your cluster go nuts and windows roll up and down without being touched..LOL

Why is it when another manufacturer has a problem this group jumps on it, all while they post messages about issues with Acura??
Stick by your guns and stop being such hypocrites. Every OEM has to buy from a secondary supplier. At some point those suppliers may have quality issues that cause problems in the vehicle. I see enough posts about problems in the Acura to determine that they (Honda/Acura NA) are not immune to this problem.
How pathetic are we to mock another’s problem when we have our own issues.
