BMW The Driving Machine Shown by Mercedes

http://www.thestate.com/2010/06/26/1...or-a-spin.html

Does anyone else find that BMW, the ulitmate driving machine, needs to be filmed by a Mercedes? So much for the X5.

This is the home state of the only USA manufacturer of BMWs. So, you dumb fucks, would Coke hire a Pepsi production company to make a commercial...

There needs to be an IQ test for membership on this forum.

A bit added... the ad was producted by BMW USA... Spartanburg, SC, and outsourced labor by Randstad USA, where my wife works.

So take that pigfuckkers... oh how I love 5th grade smack.

The production company chose to film urban streetscapes in Columbia and rural roads in Hopkins because the crew already was filming at BMW’s plant in Greer and at an Upstate dealership, said Bart Lipton, line producer for HSI Productions, the company creating the commercial. Other cities were considered, but Columbia made its streets available on the crew’s schedule.

I'm sorry for calling everyone dumfucks and pigfuckkers... I'm tensed out and piss drunk watching the South Carolina v. Clemson game in the College World Series. And my Clemson neighbor is throwing peanuts at me...

Point taken. No way in the world would I have a MB filming my Bimmer, if I was part of BMW.

No, because Pepsi isn't a production company either.
Generally, you hire the production company for the product they produce, not the tools they use to produce it. That production company has most likely used that MB which is specifically fitted with that rig to produce many other commercials, which could include not only other vehicle brands but commercial having nothing related to vehicles.

It's not like BMW purchased the MB to film the commercial...

Hell, they very well may have not known what the production company was going to use in terms of specific vehicle.

From what I understand, HSI didn't fly a Merc in. They used the SC Film agency and only directed it.

Nevertheless if they flown the Merc in or not, I'd be jumping all over that pic I posted if I were a Merc production company.

I'm guessing that's the same ML they use all over the country for this kind of shooting. It makes its rounds. The fact that they used it for this just means they wanted the best camera car (truck) for the job. I think it's one of the best in the country, and they use it frequently for car commercials. Here is a pic I took in LA in 2006:

Wow OP hope you put your flame suit on! I don't think you're, uh, what they said, but I agree, the production company chooses the car, not the manufacturer that hired the production company. I can only imagine them trying to move that equipment from the MB to an X5 .

It is,...

Here's a post from sarlacc from 2006.
The most badass ML55 you will ever see. Movie Car conversion
This ML55 was tricked out to be a full driving camera crane. It is heavily used on car commercials. I have a friend who worked with it on a Saab commercial a few year back.

This car is perfactly balanced...completely matte black, right down to the wheels. Has black covers for the headlights, and black netting for the windows. IE: this car was made to not reflect of the surface of other cars.

If you want to see this thing in action, pop in the 2nd disc of Batman Begins:SE. Go to the section on the batmobile. You will see this thing driving on a SET over 100mph.

The first pic is the ML with the jib arm and remote head...and a HD camera for show.

The next pic shows how the passenger seat was retrofitted for a camera operator. He has his wheels (controls the remote head) and video tap. You'll aslo notice the driver has a video monitor for veiwing as well.

The last pic is where the jib operator sits and controls the arm. Also note the 2nd row seating has 2 montiors...one for the director to ride along, and one for the 1st AC to sit with a remote follow focus to sit and watch and guage the distance to pull focus.

Totally badass:

Yup, I think I remember seeing Sarlacc or someone posting pics of their work and I noticed a blacked out ML just like that one in one of the shots. Anyways, who gives a crap? If this ML55 was filming a Toyota commercial, no one would think anything of it.
