They're referring to it as CSK and say that they (GM) have thousands of engines with over 150,000 miles. Aluminum blocks radiate the sound; the same happens with their iron blocks, but we just don't hear it. We'll see how it goes from here.
I think both Audi and BMW make great cars. My Brother in law works for BMW corporate and could get a "family discount" if I wanted it. As ridiculous as it sounds, my fear is that down the road the maintenance will kill me. Once the warranty runs out I'd pay through the nose.
I'll never make it past 30,000 miles?!?! Who am I kidding?!?! Let's see how the TL does from here, one of them may be the next call.

I've just come to the stark realization that although I love cars in every way, I am a complete and utter failure in life compared to the OP. This guy's a true lover of cars....but an "everyman" sort of connoisseur, buying cool cars we could all buy. I honestly can't remember any of the cars I've owned before the one I have now, and even the one I have now is kinda busted.
Great thread, OP!

And this ladies and gents, is where getting a "deal" is not always a good thing.
The new used Denali with 19,000 miles seems to have a congenital problem. The monster 6.2l aluminum block is experiencing a bit of knocking that Chevy says is normal. When I first took it for a test ride, it had been sitting for several months and was louder than normal. Once it warmed up, the noise was gone and I didn't pay much attention to it. Long story short, there are bulletins about this issue and a set of tests the dealer has to go through before anything major is done. They have had it for a week now, and by the end of tomorrow will either commit to a new engine or take the truck back. I'm figuring they'll go with the new engine.
So while I will have to go through some aggravation, I paid about $5,000 less than I should have for the truck initially. Hopefully I'll have a brand new engine when we're done, because I really love the truck. So in spite of the BS I'll end up OK, but this could have gone terribly wrong.
And we all know what that would mean

iirc this is a problem with the rearward knock sensor in the intake valley. The way it's currently designed they often get destroyed by rain water pooling around it. The fix is a new knock sensor and to build a dam around it with rtv. I highly doubt they will offer you a new engine.
Thanks for the input though.

How do you get into the business of manufacturing construction equipment? Doesn't seem like a company you could just start up very easily....

Not easy to start up. I owned an associated business. My business was purchased by the manufacturing company and we formed a new venture.

After speaking with the Service manager today, he confirmed that what you are speaking of is not the case. They have one last fix they are trying today and we'll see the results tomorrow morning. Either way, I've done enough research on this to know that it's only annoying and not detrimental to the engine. I won't push for an engine. Everything is documented now so if there were further problems it would be taken care of.
Thanks for the input though.

They were able to fix it with a simple fuel induction service. There was carbon build up on top of the pistons that caused the knocking. Don't ask me why or how, but I've read about that being a possible issue and it turned out to be the fix. I guess that means there won't be #38 in the near future.
All kidding aside, I'm very relieved. It's good to have her back. I have plenty of room under the dash to for my cast, so I can actually drive now. Whooda thunk that carbon build up could sound so bad?

Blown is Best
Broke my hear reading about the Shiro. They are indeed rare and beautiful with some nice features. I've got one as a parts car that was totaled - bought for $500. Moving parts from it to my 1986 300ZX that I've owned for coming up on 25 years.
Do you visit z31performance.com? Ocassionally one will pop up there too.
Love the muscle cars too.
Very touching history to your monthers Accord.

I appreciate the link, but I'm looking for something a bit "younger".
