Anyone else like the Genesis G70?
So I'm seeing lots of reviews for the new Genesis G70 pop up in my YouTube feed. I'm in love! It is now a leading contender for next daily driver when my TLX lease is done in 18 months.
It looks kinda like a TLX with more styling. I love it. Aside: exterior designed by the same guy who designed the Lambo Diablo, Murci, and Gallardo. Hey Acura, you listening?
The lower-end model *comes with a manual*. However, by choosing it, you lose some features.
The 3.3t model sounds sweet, is fast, and handling is very good.
I wish the 3.3t model came with a manual.
Those are just some preliminary thoughts. Going to go test drive one! Some reviews:

What's not to like? Finally the Asian car market has produced a true rival for the BMW 3-series (well, Infiniti had come close with their G35/37 and Q50). From all I've read the car drives brilliantly and the interior is pretty good. Only slight issue I have is that the styling could be a bit better and the manual should be available with both engine options. Otherwise it is a damn good sports sedan IMO...

I'm liking the G70 on the surface, however, in comparison to my TL, there are a few things which may deter me:
- Unless I'm missing something, you cannot get a G70 2.0T Sport 6MT with either a leather interior, or a sunroof.
- The G70 2.0T Sport with the 6MT is pretty darned heavy; it has similar power numbers compared to my 2006 TL 6MT, however, the one report I've encountered which mentions 0-60 times suggests it is around 7 seconds; my TL, depending upon which report you read is in the high-5 to low-6 second range.
- Fuel economy is relatively poor compared to the TL; 'nuff said.

OP, I have seen the G70 at the Hyundai dealer a few times and it looks incredibly good in person, WAY better than it does online IMO. It especially looks good in white or dark grey with the black trim and wheels. I don't know if it's as good as the BMW 3-series, Hyundai just can't seem to get steering feel down (though maybe they finally got it). But definitely go give it a good go and let us know how you get on.

I’ll definitely be taking a test drive once they start appearing at my local Hyundai dealers. So far, they seem to be MIA.
I’m all over the place in considering my next daily driver, but this seems to check most of my boxes, and is reasonably priced. I just saw spy shots of what may be the a TLX-S (we hope) mule, though...so hopefully Acura is finally waking up.
By “all over the place”, I mean I’m even considering wackadoodle ideas like
—high mileage S2000 for dailying
—NC1 NSX (I love it but I’d only lease one, not buy one)
—finally transition to a SUV of some kind
but at the end of the day, I am a sedan or wagon person and need a reasonably entertaining one as a daily driver.
We’ll see! I’ve got 18 months.

I was going to allude to what horseshoes said, with regards to how Hyundais never seem to perform the way their numbers would indicate. Meaning acceleration and fuel economy just isn't there, possibly due to weight or optimism on the manufacturer's part?
The first time I saw one inside Incheon airport, it looked stunning. It was blue, of course. They had a display setup for it near the checkin stands

I'm pretty sure fuel economy isn't on top of neuronbob's list of concerns, but certainly a porkier car usually isn't a recipe for a better handling/faster accelerating/sportier car.

Buddy of mine is on his second Genesis and his lease is almost over, so he's looking at jumping into his 3rd. He test drove the TT and was absolutely in love with it. So much so that he's actively pursuing ways to get out of his lease early to get into a new one since he still have a bit to go before his lease ends
He's a car guy so I trust his instincts, but whenever you bring up the new Genesis to him he gets all giddy. Something tells me that will be his new daily soon...

I think the only fly in the ointment for me is that the G70 is smaller than my current TLX. However, since we do road trips in the Mommymobile (Enclave), I use my V wagon or the Mommymobile to carry stuff, and I’m the only person in the car 90% of the time, I could probably get away with one.
JB is right, I dailied my V wagon for two years, while gas was more expensive than it is now. Fuel economy is DEFINITELY not one of my primary concerns. If it were, I’d own a Prius or a Volt.

I'm happy that Hyundai/Kia is making waves in this segment and I really think that's what's pushing Acura to step up their TLX game with the upcoming generation.
However, I generally have no interest in the Hyundai/Kia brand. NOTE: For the record, I feel likewise about MB, Subaru and Nissan (exc. Q50/GTR). That said, under the right circumstances (i.e.: "right sized" factory incentives, etc,...) the G70/Stinger GT can make for a compelling consideration.

I like it but admittedly, don't know anyone who has one and therefore, no firsthand impressions other than what I've read.

From what I've read and seen I like it a lot.. As a matter of fact my oldest son's lease on his Q50S is almost up, and besides the Q50 Redsport (that we're going to test drive today) and 340i M-Pack he's deciding between I suggested he look at the G70..

In reading more about the G70, I’m learning about Hyundai’s massive fail on the Genesis dealership front. This is making Acura’s colossal fail on the RLX launch look like small potatoes.

^^ I was just about to post the Alex on Autos piece. Very informative. At any rate, good luck with choosing. There are so many good cars to choose from these days that if you don't get a G70 I'm sure you'll find something suitable. 18 months is a long time to stick with your first selection. It would be cool to hear all about this car from a fellow AZiner, so I hope you get it.

Like the G70?
I like pretty much everything Hyundai and Kia and Genesis have to offer.
I used to bloody hell hate everything about Korean cars. But then I drove one. And then I bought one. The car was reliable AF (turbo, to boot), looked good and never skipped a beat. I used that sedan as my work horse. I used it as a truck. I hauled construction materials in it on the regular... and it never skipped a beat.
I have a lot of respect now for all three brands. They can build some pretty solid cars. I like the G70. The only reason I won’t consider one is because the 3.3T doesn’t come with a manual. Otherwise I’d be looking real close.

Ive had a few Hyundais over the years, a 2.0T Genesis Coupe, a 3.8 Coupe, even a Veloster Turbo. All were fine cars, reliable, well built, nicely optioned, etc. The 3.8 with some boltons was a low 13 second car too. They werent the best handling cars and the suspension was a bit all over the place. Based on the reviews, the Audi and BMW guys they hired worked out the performance bugs. Id consider a G70 or Stinger as my next car.

I'm also strongly considering a G70 for my next daily. I've been a long time Acura faithful, but the lack of manual transmission in the TLX has been a major sticking point for me. I currently have 2 Acuras (2G MDX Tech & SC K24 RSX-S) and will replace my current daily (Mazda3) in 2020 with a G70 2.0T 6MT or Honda Accord Sport 6MT.

Good read. I have to admit that in addition to the bang for the buck factor, the exhaust note on that Coyote carries a major appeal to me.

Who cares about the rest of the population, within the community which might actually consider the Stinger and/or the G70 there is a percentage which would want to stir their own gears of at least four to five percent; maybe higher. The thing is, as more and more manufacturers discontinue manual transmissions, the few remaining manufacturers will pick up sales they otherwise wouldn't have gotten.

The manuf do care about the rest of the population, which is where majority of their sales is coming from. If the so called Benchmark 3 series is dropping 6mt all together for the US, it just shows how little sales it can generate from having 6mt.

Clearly they don't; if they did then every car would be an SUV.

We are moving towards that direction, aren't we?
You are saying manuf. clearly dont care about where majority of their sales coming from? I dont understand.

The point is, even a 1% niche market is still a HUGE business opportunity in the automotive industry. The company which caters to the niche gets to charge accordingly, and the market will most likely support that demand.

Yah except Hyundai or Genesis, in this case G70 is not in the Niche market. They are in the mass Market and G70 will be a volume seller.
Dont get me wrong, Kudos to Hyundai for even offering 6mt on the G70. But from a business perspective, It is not going to show up on any kind of sales # when you compare to Stinger. The 6mt take rate on a G70 will be a drop in a bucket. So yah it is that insignificant.

Part of the problem is that the 6MT is being offered on the wrong model. It's being offered on the 2.0 model. That wouldn't be as much of an issue if gaining the manual didn't lead to losing multiple options, similar to what Honda did with the manual Accords. The 6MT model is essentially a stripper model. Further, the 6MT apparently wasn't thought able to handle the torque of the 3.3t engine.
I'm hoping Hyundai gets its act together enough that I can test drive either G70 model.

I'd say if you want to offer a manual, you better do it right and put it on the big engine. About a decade ago Hyundai/Kia were using ZF transmissions in some of their models, they should talk to ZF again about borrowing a manual for the 3.3T.

Yeah, its a real shame that even the manufacturers who still offer a MT in their vehicles always seem to do so only on their lowest end and least equipped models. Then they look at the crap sales numbers and use that as an excuse for why nobody wants MT's! Here's a thought geniuses, perhaps if you were to offer the MT with the engine and trim level that people actually want to buy, it might sell better? I mean, the only people who even want a manual in a sport sedan like the G70 (or even a family car like the Accord) are also the people that are going to want the 3.3t along with the bells and whistles. It just makes no sense to me that Hyundai can hit the ball so out of the park on cars like the G70 and Stinger GT, yet completely fail to understand that the people who want an MT are not the ones who are looking simply at the lowest price trim in the lineup.
All that said, it doesn't really bother me that much anymore, and I would absolutely love to have a Stinger GT despite its lack of a MT. If it had one, I'd get it, but an AT-only is no longer a deal-breaker for me since I haven't even had one since my 2008 G37S a decade ago.

I really like the G70, especially the powertrain. But I'm biased since I traded my 2012 TL in for a 2018 Stinger this summer...it pulls like a freight train and so far I'm really happy with the car.
