anyone else get called by Acura for LA Auto Show?

I got a call yesterday from someone at Acura who said they got my information from registering at myacura.com and said that I had been selected to be one of their VIP guests to the LA Auto Show and I would be getting airfare, hotel, rental car, $1500 to play with, and a chance to drive the new TSX wagon at at ride and drive event, at no cost to me.

First I thought it was a scam, but she gave me a phone number to call if I had questions and said they would be contacting me again in the next few weeks to arrange travel and hotel info.

I'm still overly suspicious, but curious if anyone else has gotten anything like this?

Good luck man. Just remember, if they ask for a credit card to hold your slot = scam

They plan that far ahead? L.A. Auto Show is in November. I've never heard of OEMs do this, but that's just me.

^^ They do it all the time, it's legit!

VAG offered me a free round trip to Germany, hotel stay, a Scirocco R to drive around while I stayed, and 2k euros in spending money.

They even gave me a phone number to call them back, but I couldn't because I dropped my mobile phone in the toilet.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd do it if they gave me $1,500.

I got a call yesterday too. They did not mention the car show at all. They were calling to see if I was available the weekend of March 11th to come to Torrence. And that they would call within one week to confirm...IF, I was selected.

They didn't ask me for any money....they just wanted to confirm that I was available for that specific weekend.

Actually, the manufacturer may pay you to participate.

I was paid $150 to be in a focus group on the Acura TL for several hours one weeknight in 2006-- the main issues were types of push-button start systems and the cost of the push button start systems.

I'm very capable of that "amazing feat", apparently you can't distinguish between a breach of an e-mail list and the manufacturer calling to ask people to be part of market research or a focus group....but that's ok because I can't feel sorry for you either

Have you heard of the term "coincidence" before?

Shall we recap?

1. Honda says their list of owner's contact information was breached
2. You get a call saying you'll be paid $1500 and flown to the LA Auto Show NINE months from now
3. You are just a regular donkey off the street like the rest of us and in no way an influential personality on TV, in print, or on the web
4. You think this makes sense
5. The rest of us are like
6. We all go get and wait for the update where you say they took your money

That sound about right?

Tell us how it all works out.

I doubt Acura would want me, I'd tell them in detail what they've been doing wrong for the past decade.

enjoy your popcorn there Einstein....I never said I thought it makes sense, which is why I asked if anyone else had gotten the same call. As much as you'd like me to give them all of my credit card numbers, SSN, and change them to the beneficiary on my life insurance, that probably won't happen. Go troll somehwere else.....

Did you ever bother to ask them why they picked you? Do you work in the auto industry? Are you an industry expert, reporter, etc.?

Do you not understand why we all think this is a scam?

And furthermore you live in Central IL. Any reason why they chose to fly you out to LA when the Detroit Auto show is a weee bit closer?

its these typical responses that remind me of why everyone who's on an internet forum thinks they are the coolest jr. high kid around. I ask a simple question, and the "tough guys" jump in and make comments that don't even apply to the topic....sorry children, recess is over, go back to your sandwiches with the crust cut off.
