Anybody Remember The VW Scirocco
Been a long time since I saw one of these, so just thought I'd share. Daughter's friend wanted to put the '81 Scirocco into one of my garages for storage after his father passed away so I just snapped a couple of pictures. Know the pictures aren't the greatest because of the sun/shade but the car only has 73,000 miles. They also have a '53 Olds 88 2 dr hardtop, turquoise and white with 51,000 miles, but they are selling that one.

The father also had a complete GTI engine/trans assembly in the garage. Don't whether he ever thought about installing that in the VW or just finding another chassis for the drive train. Guess we'll never know.

My parents were idiots.

I had a 1978 purchased new. It was Black/Black 5sp M. Loved it for what it was but my wife's 1978 semi-auto Civic was actually faster in the twisters.
I only kept the Scirocco for about 50,000 miles because we needed something larger. It also had electrical gremlins. I replaced it with a used 1978 Audi 5000. We kept the civic over ten years until my son beat it to death.
Loved and miss the Scirocco though, it was a great looking/riding little car. It was tight and solid.

I owned two of them, '81 and '83. I also owned an '83 GTi, and '87 Jetta GLi. I traded that for a SAAB 900. After years of BS repair bills a getting stranded on a montainside, I decided to give Honda a try. I bought an Integra LS and (except for 6 months of 911 ownership) I never bought another car that shipped from the North Sea again.
PM me if you want the details of the electrical fire in my GTI.

Very much so. They were pretty popular when I was in HS. Those and CRX's. Most were pre-owned since they stopped making them in 1992... but those two little cars were fairly visible then...

My buddy had one too, I thought it was the coolest car ever. I still love them. It was one of the last years they made them, so it had the square lights, and the nicer wheels that eventually made it on the Jettas. I thought they looked like DeLoreans up front and 944's from the rear. If he would have still had it once I graduated college I would have bought that from him immediately and just kept it for weekend driving...maybe throw a vr6 in it.

Yeah, they were pretty peppy with the 16v 4 banger. I had a 99 gti vr6 and that thing had some nice pull to it, so I can only imagine how the rocco would be.
