Any other '12 Civic owners?

sold the commander to get a commuter car ( new career opportunity, more traveling) and will be picking up a '12 Civic EX sedan tomorrow. Nothing fancy, just something with a few bells and whistles that we can run into the ground. I think it's a lot of car for a compact sedan and im excited to pick it up (vsa, roof, bluetooth, alloys, i-mid, etc.). I test drove a cruze, malibu, and fusion and none of them felt like the honda quality i was used to. Drove an LX accord and hated it, which led me to the civic sedan.

Im stoked about the 39mpg hwy rating and hope i can even surpass that, just curious what others are getting?

the only thing i was bummed about was no 5speed manual

My parents bought a 2012 Civic LX 5AT a few months ago and they are pleased with it. My brother has a 2007 Civic and it's interesting to contrast the two. I also noticed that the EX was not available with a MT.

Congrats on the Civic!

One thing you'll like is the Civic MID is far better than what is on our TL's in resolution, color, information,...

I think all the bad press they've gotten is a bit exaggerated. They still look nice and sound like a great deal. Its similar to the previous gen, just refined and enhanced.

I want one. My wife has a 2003 Civic, and I like THAT car. I can't imagine having a 2012 version!

Congrats on the pickup! Can you take interior and exterior pictures and post them?

I still like Civics and I haven't owned one in 15 years. 43.5 mpg at 70 mph on the freeway is just a dream from where I sit.

Interior looks great. How tall are you? I'm considering buying an 12' ex-l for my wife but I don't know if a compact sedan or small suv better suits our needs.

That is fantastic I have only been able to pull 39mpg so far in my 2011 civic but I cannot hold it to just 70mph

Congrats! I was shocked that our baby seat fit in the back of an '09 Civic Si sedan without me having to move the front seat up when I was car shopping (I'm 6'3"). I came VERY close to buying that car.

Congrats! How much you paid for this car? I am asking because my friend is looking to buy a new commuter car and we checked out 2012 Civic today. Looks much better in person than pics and its really roomy. Back seat is big for compact car. The one we looked at had exactly your color combo but it had navigation too. Dealer asking price was $22k + tax and other fee.

Liking the new civic...great shots of your car...and damn that is roomy in the back seats for a civic. Was the '12 a mid-model change? My cousin has an 09 or 08 civic...I need to get behind the wheel of that car to check it out...

quick note. first tank went 370 miles even. Combined MPG for the tank was 34.9 MPG with a 35%/65% city/hwy driving mix. Very happy with that as 190 miles of it was with the car loaded up and a bike on the back. Only took 10.6 gallons to fill at $3.11/g

also, im assuming MPG will rise as the engine breaks in and loosens up a bit.

My parents drive pretty conservative drivers and are getting ~40 MPG in suburban driving with their 2012 LX Civic. They also leave the ECON switched on.

How is this a good deal? $21k for a civic?

I paid $26k+TTL for my new camry hybrid back in 2009.

Bigger car with leather and navi.

On top of that I am averaging close to 40mpg in daily driving.

Yes it drives boring and boring to look too. But still a better commuter than civic.

Why would anyone want to drive something as mundane as a Camry, let alone an even more emasculated hybrid model?

Anyways, they are two very different cars. They may have a similar purpose, but that's no reason to crap on everyone else's parade.

quite the attitude there.

why the hell would i put a loaded leather/nav hybrid camry in my driveway when i already have the TL-S that is actually a sports sedan that is fun to drive and gets plenty good fuel economy for what it is? maybe you missed the part where i was trading DOWN from the commander to the civic. I was looking for a LOWER monthly payment and HIGHER fuel economy. this is strictly a commuter/"drive it into the ground car", i was looking to go as cheap as possible without driving a piece of crap and putting my daughter in the back seat of something that was too small or had questionable safety.

i'd sooner hang myself than purchase a camry for $30k that would would put me to sleep every time i drove it. sorry but nothing says "i absolutely don't care what i drive" like a camry. But hey, whatever floats your boat. thanks for stopping into my thread.

edit* - just saw yours is an 09... even worse...

Why would i want a TL, when I have 2 M at my disposal?

what is with the attitude?

TL-S is a good car. But no need to made it out like a god send what so ever.

I just find amazing that paying $21k for a civic that is without leather, down graded interior and get 35 mpg is a good deal.

Civic is not a handler so don't kid yourself. It better than Camry, but still much softer than older generation.

Camry is soft- but I used it as a commuter. Your Civic probably cost more to lease/own, uses more gas, and does not come with free maint.

Please go hang yourself. No body is stopping you. I can go sleep perfectly fine paying $30k commuter in cash . At least i own the car out right.

BTW- my other commuter (which i drive during sunny days) is a 135i 6 speed. Which i think can more than out gun and out corner your TLS. And my 6 year old 4000 lb pig probably will also outgun and out corner your TLS too.

Like Civic is a man's car.

Its a commuter for god sake. Nothing more. To me both are appliance that gets me from point A to point B effortlessly.

Crap? I don't think so. Bizzare yes. Getting a smaller car, lesser equipment, and get much less mpg for a commuter. I just don't get it.

We get it, you think your Camry is a great car for what it is, now stop trying to stuff it down everyone's throat. Aren't you that one guy who had a Camry SE that was trying to convince all the Accord owners that they made the wrong choice?

Ever think that maybe you're not the ultimate authority on these things and people buy cars for things other than stats on paper? You're probably not even from the same area/exact market as the OP so it doesn't really matter what you got your car for.

Justify your purchase much? No one cares that you bought it outright. Going over the thread again, you probably had nothing to contribute to the thread in the first place, you saw the price OP paid and instantly criticized. Deep down inside you probably wish you got something else, since you paid for it in cash and don't feel like eating a loss since it apparently suits your needs perfectly.... why else would anyone be so insecure about their own car?

Tragic, though I can't say I wouldn't be going through the same dilemma in my head if I were you. Mods, if I ever end up in a Camry Hybrid as my daily for whatever reason, please ban me indefinitely until I get rid of the thing.

is this guy serious?

not sure what you are trying to compensate for by going on a car forum and criticizing other peoples purchases while exclaiming the fact that you paid cash for your car, own 600 other ones, etc. etc. Sorry if I'm not impressed by your amazing wealth. I honestly feel sorry for people like you because I can't imagine what type of complex you have in real life that has you make yourself feel better by gloating on the internet. You are truly a classless person.

at no point above did I say the TL-S was a God send. I simply stated that I wouldn't be caught dead driving a hybrid camry and frankly compared those 2. And there is no comparison.. period. You're kidding yourself if there is. Although you then compared your $30k loaded camry to a civic that cost $9k less...so who knows.

I apologize for whatever issues you have in your life that make you feel the need to try to gloat on the internet while subtly belittling people. Maybe socializing in grade school was tough. Maybe your parents didn't hug you enough. Maybe you don't have any true friends. I dunno, I'm not a psychologist. But what I do know is...You're a tool.

edit* - just saw that you were 41. you really are a sad man.

Don't worry - when the hybrid battery needs to be replaced in 3 years, his price tag will jump from 26 to almost 30 when he needs to replace it!

THen he'll brag that he only paid $3-$4k for an awesome battery!!

I hope you like it a lot but for the money the Eleantra GLS is 3k less for the same thing. I think the sticker for one in automatic with alloy wheels and the usual options is 18,700.

I hope you like the car though.

Oh lord.

Did Toyota hire an ex-Walmart 1980s Ghetto Boom Box designer to do the Camry Interior?
