And yes I do have a dealer a few miles from me.
If yo buy the Rover, you'll get to know all the local shops even better!

To answer your original question, yes you are crazy to be thinking about this.

My company had a managers meeting where we get all the salesmanagers and used car managers together (Acura, BMW, Land Rover, Mini, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi). One of the questions that came up at the last meeting was, "what is the trade that you are most afraid of?"

The unanimous answer was Land Rover's. The resale value of the vehicles is poor and drops considerably fast as the miles add up. This is just a factor of having a history of poor reliability. They also have the tendency of having a major repair needed that you won't find during an appraisal, but will find when performing a safety check.

At this point, the only one of our dealerships that will sell a used Rover is the Rover dealer, everyone else just ships them to the auction to avoid the headaches.

If you just need a second vehicle to tow with, you can't beat an F150 (I can't believe I just endorsed a Ford product) .

Yeah I walked into 2 Land rover dealerships down here. They sell nothing used below an 04. Apparently any used land rover they sell needs to be certified & comes with a warranty.

That might be a clue.
The older Range/Land Rovers were probably just getting repaired so they would be available for a test drive before needing additional repairs to pull out of the sales driveway and into the service driveway.

Glad to see you've come to your senses!

Unreliable as always.

My friend drives one, it is real nice vehicle and has adjustable height control to wade through deep puddles, lol

But everything else about the vehicle is really just bleh.

When I was poor in college I always dream of having nice vehicles, but now I can actually afford such thing, then I got think in terms of practicality and reliability more than the looks and baller status of said vehicle.

If you have the money, I would recommend lease it, and leave the OOW problems to the 2nd hand buyers.
