Car is finally home! I should mention that once the shop got her back together and proceeded to test drive, the clutch dropped to the floor; slave cylinder went out. Added another week of wait, but no worries as they filed another claim that covered it, so, hey, just another new part.

Anyway, it's dark & it's a black car, so no photos of her home. Sorry. But, in case, anyone was curious to the final tab, I'll throw this up.


Will have to baby the car for 500 miles or so with the new tranny, but not a big deal. The gear stick movement is a bit firm at the moment, & going from 1st to 2nd is pretty evident of it. The shifts however, do feel sooo much nicer. My biggest peeve with the car originally was feeling like my 1st gear would appear to be engaged, but as soon as I started to come off the clutch, it quickly became apparent it was not. I no longer feel any of that friction; as soon as I push upward, I immediately feel it "pop" in.

Have a couple more things to address through a dealership, but regardless, I'm really just glad to have her home. Felt really nice being back behind the wheel on the way home & remembering why I enjoy this car.

While it was apart did you install a remote bleeder and tick master cylinder?

The shop said they installed the bleeder. Didn't make any mention of a tick master cylinder, though.

I think I mentioned the Slave Cylinder in one of my previous posts, really stinks that you had to wait an extra week but glad to hear it worked out for you.

Now get back to driving and enjoying it....

You and a buddy of mine through work think alike. He thought though, that the master cylinder would be next thing to go within' a year, jokingly as his had just went after he got done putting his car back together.

I have read that its recommended through the corvetteforum to flush & refill the reservoir with the ranger-method at least once a year to keep it clean and devoid of clutch dust to help avoid the issue, though the shop suggested every 6 months.

Running a lot smoother. No exhaust yet. Probably have to come after my trip to COTA in May; that's where I've got my funds centered around right now.

Contemplating buying into the Corvette corral. Will put some use on the car and I don't have to go anywhere near downtown Austin since I'm staying at the Hilton Airport and just stick with Highway 130 aka the Texas Autobahn.

Small update: Caught some fluid underneath the car at home after coming from work last Saturday, so I took her back to the shop. One of the seals on the diff. was leaking, so back on the lift she went. They did file a claim just to see how Ally would respond, and they ended up covering just under half. I learned that when the slave cylinder went out before & the 2nd claim was filed, the adjuster made the accusation that the car had been taken to the track and I was trying to abuse them to fix it. The shop stepped in for me again, and argued that the tires were brand new with no signs of rubber marbles in the fenders, & that there was no other sign of track use. So, the adjuster approved it.

But, car is back and still drives great. Topped off all the fluids again & threw in an alignment just to give the car a clean bill. I was told I can't return unless we're doing mods next.

The '69 above was a cool addition to see next to her. Fully restored with LS3 powerplant. Owner is asking $40,000 for it.

i think that seal on the diff is a common issue... z06 boy has a leak coming from his diff area that he is waiting for the snow and salt to clear out before taking it to the shop... how much did they charge to replace the seal?

glad to hear you are slowly getting the car up to minty condition...

'69 resto mod for $40k actually doesn't sound that unreasonable...

I tried searching the forums for it, but it seemed to be much more common on the C5 generation. It was $1,286 when everything was done.

My goal for it is basically going that route now, surprisingly. My next thing on the list is to replace the headlights, as the driver side is starting to show more "cracks" in it. I'm a bit lost though, on how to go about fixing them. I originally read that you can't remove the lens covers without being extremely careful. Most online places seemed to only want to sell the whole headlight for $500 or more in perfect condition. Ebay had a few at $225-$300 that would need some fixing.

And then this last week, I caught these 2 threads talking about building just those covers.

It looks like in this thread I can just take headlights out and ship them to these guys, and they'll take care of it; $300 for both.

This thread has a link to company selling them similar price, but I'd have to install them.

But that leads me back to wondering if removing the lens from the unit is difficult or not. I specifically remember reading members discussing that it takes some patience to do.

the headlight lenses are a common failure on the C6... when i went to look at an '08 AO C6, the car only had 12k miles on it, but the headlights looked like they sat outside in the sun for 120k miles... it was pathetic... the lens swap is almost like any other headlight job except a bit easier since you aren't worried too much about preserving the old lenses, you can really be a bit rough on them while removing... just don't damage the housing...

did you get the headlight recall (high beam wire) done yet???

Not yet. That's most likely next honestly, as I'll want the dealer to program my new FOB and reprogram the old one as a back up whilst the car is with them. I'll ask them for a quote to fix the lenses for shits and giggles.

Does removing the housing requite me to remove the fenders or not? I'm seeing a couple posts on the forums claiming you have to, and 1 person saying there's a YouTube video apparently showcasing a way around that.

you don't fully remove the fenders... just unbolt the top fender bolts so you can lift it up a bit to clear the headlight post when you pull the headlight out... once you drop the bumper, 3 10mm bolts hold the headlight from underneath...

i don't think the dealer will do a lens swap... their 'fix' for crapped up lenses are to just replace the whole headlight housing... i tried to use that as leverage on the AO, but the dealer wouldn't budge so i walked...

You're right about the dealer; that's my fault for not clarifying more. I'm curious at what crazy price they'll want to replace both housings.
