Acura vs. Honda leather

I'm probably wrong, but wouldn't they basically be the same? Most parts on my Acura have Honda written all over them, I honestly thought that they used to same leather as well. Now I wanna know too? Is their a difference?

The reason why I am asking is someone told me recently the leather in acura is a higher grade/quality. However, I'm skeptical as I couldn't verify this anywhere.

The leather varies car to car even within Acura. The leather on the seats of an RDX is perforated, the MDX is solid. A buddy of mine with an MDX said he liked the RDX leather better. My parents have a CR-V with leather. I think the RDX leather is definitely better. Not night and day, but it is softer. i would not be surprised to hear that the ZDX leather kicks ass.

I had a 97 CL and my friend has an 01 Prelude with leather. The Acura leather is smoother and softer while the Honda's was grainier and more rough, if that makes sense. Put it this way, he still has the Lude and not one ounce of wear on the driver's side seat, whereas my CL driver seat looked horrible and needed repair.

The Acura leather in my TL seems 'softer' than the Honda leather in our Odyssey, which from my experience is the same leather used in Civics and Accords.

I have a 2001 Acura 3.2Cl...my parents have a 2005 Honda Pilot.
I'm not sure these are the best to compare for you, but I do notice my leather is a bit more smooth and softer if that makes sense. I dont know how to describe it, but there is a SMALL difference in favor of Acura, yes.

It appears to me by each website both Honda and Acura use leather-trimmed seats and the Acura with the Tech package upgrade has premium leather. The fillers in the Acura I bet are different and a better construction which gives Acura a better overall seat than a Honda.
2010 Honda Accord EX-L V6
Comfort
In the Accord's case, bigger is better. It means more comfort and more room for those Honda details, like available leather-trimmed seats.
2010 Acura TL
Soft, Perforated Milano Premium Leather seating surfaces are included with the Technology Package.
# The seats feature a combination of dense materials to filter out road vibration.
# TL SH-AWD has high-performance seats with more aggressive side-bolstering.

I went from an 07 AV6 EX-L to an 09 MDX base and feel likewise. My AV6 never had that nice leather scent as does my MDX. But as far as quality goes, the Accord's leather seemed to wear fairly well over our three years of use. As we plan to keep our MDX for at least the next 7-8 years, I hope it wears as well.

I know this still doesn't answer the question, but maybe contact these guys and see what's in an Acura and Honda. It seems they supply most all the leather for all major cars of the world. I'm sure each manufacture has their specific requirements and thicknesses, but it seem the leather all comes from this place.

From past experience, the Acura leather is generally softer then the Honda leather, but as posted above, it varies car to car within Acura.
The 08 TL leather is softer then the 08 Accord from personal experience.

Honda/Acura uses vinyl don't they? Even today on their high end models like the RL? I've never seen an interior that uses a material that feels like real leather. The only true leather seats that I can think of are in old Cadillac's and Ford King Ranch pickup's.

My '03 CL-S had much nicer leather than my '03 Accord. It was softer and wore better.

I know they use vinyl for the back and sides of the seat, but the actual seating surface should be leather.

The type s definitely has some vinyl mixed in. I notice a different texture on the part of the front seats that abut the center console. I doubt honda uses all vinyl though.

I believe it is a coated leather, as are most consumer vehicles. They wouldn't say leather if it wasn't.

I know the Acura TL seats were nice, never had any experience with Honda leather, although I saw a new Honda Accord with leather seats and it looked like it was comfortable and soft.
The newer Honda stuff seems a lot nicer than the Honda of the past.
