Well I understand the anti-Nissan thing as I am on the fence on that one.

However, if you have the least interest for the entry-lux, don't go with the Accord. They are decent cars, no arguments. But more the kind that you admire than 'love'. And you want 'love'.

Has been there, done that.

Passat GT? It has that marvelous V(R)6 for an attractive price.

Wait... I got it.

It's not out yet, but it looks like the new model is coming soon. Volvo V60 station wagon.

the wagon appears to start around 38k US.

317hp, 295lbft. panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, apple carplay/android auto.

If a new one is coming soon, I wonder what the discounts will be on the old ones

They are huge, even right now. I know because I looked...then I looked at the new one and didn't care about the discounts on the old one.

I actually don't mind the outgoing version. The new one is nice, though.

Compared to the new one, the old V60 (even in Polestar trim) is a bit frumpy.

It'll be interesting to see how much it costs.

How is long-term Volvo ownership? Can't saw I know anyone personally that has had a newer one.
Local dealer has 2 current V60s, 1 at the max of my budget.
Also has a used '17 V60 Premier at an attractive price.
But, I know nearly nothing about Volvos.

Thoughts on the Kia Cadenza? Looks like a comfortable larger sedan

I'll be honest, I don't know a ton about them... but I'm sure there are plenty of forums on them. I find volvos to be super attractive cars (as of late, anyway). If they had a manual option, I'd be in one now.

I wouldn't buy it, just lease. I'm not confident of their new motors lasting any appreciable time after the warranty expires. The older V60 is probably fine.

The Kia Cadenza is a rebadged Hyundai Azera. I personally wouldn't buy it but check it out if you must. I'd go find a Kia K900 if you want some luxury at a cut rate price, it's basically a less performance version of a Genesis.

Would just lease the Volvos for now. They make some awesome looking cars these days but they don't really have a solid history on the reliability.

I thought Volvo was on the up and up, after they were bought out by the Chinese, a few years ago. As I understood it, Volvo is still Volvo... they just needed an influx of cash to research and develop new and attractive cars. I'm sure 20 minutes of research would indicate if they're a safe bet or not.

I mean, people are jumping all over Audi these days, and they haven't exactly had reliable cars for more than just a few years.

Applies to most german luxury brands. It's been much better in the last decade. Volvo has turned it around recently as well, but I can't confidently say that OP should buy over lease.

Had a friend with a XC90, he had it for 7 years. Never really had an issue with it until year 6.

Decided to trade it in recently for a CR-V.

If buying: full warranty, so no out of pocket repairs. Yes, it sucks if you have to spend time at a dealership... but again, no out of pocket repairs.

I do? I love audis and mercs. Hate BMWs, simply from an aesthetics perspective.

Audi has NOT been reliable for the past decade, sorry. BMW had a shit ton of HPFP issues and turbo issues, a decade ago, though I believe they're better now? And mercs, as far as I know, haven't really changed at all.

Vastly improved. Nothing rock solid like Japanese brands.

If you cant believe they have vastly improved for the last decade compared to previous decade, dont really know what to tell you.

Going back to the Volvo reliability, I would highly suggest leasing it!

Lease... Based on zero information, besides your personal opinion

Better to inform oneself before anything else. But hey, it's not me looking for a new vehicle, in here...

I'm saying research and get informed before deciding. It seems no one here really knows much about Volvo, besides they're extremely safe, sexy, and come with some great features. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for them, seeing their new releases. I love absolutely everything about them, save for the lack of a fun transmission.

leasing isn't going to change much... if shit keeps failing, you'll still go to the same dealership, the same amount of times, if you are financing. Repairs are covered under both scenarios, anyway. It comes down to price. The car can always be dumped, whether back to the dealer, or privately, when time comes. But saying "I'm going to lease because I don't know about their reliability" doesn't make much sense to me. What are you gaining, by doing so?

Lower payments and can dump after 3 years.

Right, so like I said, if the numbers make sense, then lease. But don't lease because of reliability. You can still sell a car after three years, if you finance.

Unless lucky, not that easy....

I have a 36-mo lease 0% with " numbers making sense". For sure I will try to get another one in December.

That's actually nice! I'm SOOOOO glad they changed their interior. I swear every Volvo I've seen traded, even like 15 model, looked like the dash was from 1995.

I have no experience with the latest gen Cadenza but I did sit in the last gen cadenza and thought it was really really nice. I would think it is at least worth a test drive because I think this new latest model is actually really really good looking. But zero experience.

Did a bit of research & it seems that the Cadenza is about equal to a 3.8 Genesis in economy, with less power & FWD. Think I'd keep an eye out for a RWD Genesis over the Cadenza. And there aren't that many in the Houston area, apart from base models

We owned Audis from the mid-2000s through early 2010s before we moved to MB and they were rock solid. Anecdotal evidence? Likely, but Audi's come a long way over the last 10-13 years. You will pay more for maintenance for German over Japanese though... that hasn't changed.

I do think you're onto something with the Genesis though. Buddy has had 2... one from each of the last 2 generations, and they are just really nice cars. Nice features, drive well, good power... just very impressive. And the latest Gen is the best yet IMO...

Found a 2015 RWD 3.8 Genesis with Tech package here in Houston, but about an hour from my house/work. CarMax, so may have it free transferred to the store up here to check it out. Not entirely sure what the spec difference is between the Tech & Ultimate packages, the only thing I recall from the AWD that I drove last week was the 9.2" screen in the dash & the HUD, not sure but I think the Ultimate also gets a heated steering wheel & heated rear seats.

Alternatively, and I'd somewhat forgotten about it, the Genesis G70 should be revealed for the US market later this week at the NYIAS. I'm curious to see what the 2.0T pricing looks like for it. Also available with a 6MT in RWD form. Odds are, they'll be full MSRP, or even marked up, so it may be over budget (there's still a few dealers with ADM on Stinger GTs here in Houston).

Current list:
2018 Accord Touring 2.0T
2015-17 Genesis/G80
2018 Mazda 6 GT R/Signature 2.5T
2019 Genesis G70 (probably the 2.0T, I expect the 3.3T to be in-line with Stinger pricing)

OK, so seriously... this has crossed my mind. I see a newer SCAT Pack and think it looks sick. Then I see an older Charger and think... will the SCAT Pack look like that car in a few years? Will it get so inexpensive that everyone and their mother is buying one? Not gonna lie, it's one of my hang-ups with it...

I don't think it will.

I think a base model SXT Charger will.

Agreed... and that's usually what I see are the lower models. But thing is, do those cheapen the upper models? Most people don't know the difference anyway so the stigma can be across the board to the average person.

I just need to stop being so shallow and pedantic...

I honestly haven't really looked. I've been focusing on 2017 and 2018 models. That said, resale on them is not the best, so I'm sure the 2015 and 2016s are not all that expensive...

I can't answer that question for you, it probably depends on what the next gen Charger looks like. If you want my OPINION, then no, I don't think the Charger will age well at all. None of them, aside from the originals, have aged well and I'm not sure these will be any different. The front of the car has been changed up but the rear still looks basically the same.

At the end of the day, if you like the car then buy it. Life is too short to not drive something that makes you happy.
