Hello all,
For all those that have cars other than Acuras in the garage like Lincoln, Ford, GM, GMC, Jaguar, Volvo, Nissan and VWs some of you will have problems with your ABS pump.
This isn't a sales pitch but an actual experience that happened to me and my 2001 GMC Yukon XL.
One day I started the Yukon and I heard a strange noise that sounded like a motor/pump that was running all the time. Oh well, it will turn off when I turn the car off I thought. It didn't. There was a pump running under the car near where the driver would sit. This pump was sitting on top of the brake area. Also the ABS light came on so I knew I was in for a big bill from the dealer.
Yep, the quote was $1300 for a new EBCM which I think is Electronic Braking Control Module. Man that's pricey. The dealer pulled the plug on it so it wouldn't drain the battery.
A friend of mine suggested that I "Google" it. Well this is a common problem on many cars because the circuit wasn't designed to be tested every time that the car was started. The problem can be repaired for much less than the cost of a new module.
I found http://www.modulemaster.com and Gavin who can repair these modules.
I had to buy a T-20 socket for the four Torx bolts that help the EBCM on and $100 plus shipping & insurance and my ABS is now fixed.
You can do this repair with limited mechanical ability. If you can read and follow instructions, you can save yourself over $1000 like I did.
Feel free to ask/post questions but I'm glad I went looking for a solution other than the dealer.
