I'd actually go for the 330, depending what the options are on each. M, yeah it's nice... But the 330 has less miles, looks better, and while it may be just a tad slower, doesn't really make much of a difference on a road course, where they both shine.

330 has less miles but less power. 330 is more common and the M, if taken care of, will bring a better resale in the end. Are those miles "hard" miles or miles driven by a little ol' lady from Pasadena?

If you are getting a convertible then rigth away we can tell you dont care too much about racing the car. Both convertibles are heavy, that said i would go with the car that doesnt look as outdated. Which is the 330.
Test drive both and see which you like more. The 330 rides a little softer but all easily fixed with coilovers if you wanted to go that route.
Also dont forget about insurance.

Yeah, the 330Ci doesnt lose by much to the E36 M3 AND the E46 is a sweeter looking coupe than the E36. (IMO, the E36 M3 looks better as a 4dr even though it only comes in automatic.)
Peace.
Peace.

they're rare, and usually go for a mint too.
liloj0414 It really depends on what you want to do with the car. If you're looking to do many autox's with it, and go on many spirited drives, then the M3 is for you. Resale is also excelent on ///M cars versus regular 3-series.
The M3 is a little lighter, faster, stiffer to ride in, and gives way more fedback through the steering wheel than the E46 cars.
The 330ci is bigger, softer, more numb on the wheel, and a little heavier. Still plenty of power.
I would pick the M3, I'm a big E-36 fan.

330ci is a good car... i test drove one before pickin my ride. i have a 330xi at home at my parents house. the 5sp manual tranny on the 3 series is pretty damn nice...
the looks of the '99 M3 vs the updated looks of the 330ci as well as the mileage difference... plus the mods and body kits for the 330ci from hamman/dinan/schnitzer make the 330ci the obvious choice for me
as for those who say that the M3 has "more power"... a few engine mods from schnitzer can more than make up the difference.

but i will most likely go with the 330..i like the newer body style better
thanks guys

I live in one of the worst cities for traffic, I still refuse to drive a automatic...
Oh and my vote goes for 330Ci, better body style and as everyone said, not that much slower.
