92 Acura Legend L --info needed--
Hey guys,
Looking to add another Acura to our family.
I like to know how reliable the 92 Legend's are?
The one I am looking to get will be an cash car.
It is a 4dr, 123K miles and can take it from the original owner for only $4K
Car is very clean inside and out. Looks as nice as my 99 TL.
It has the 6cyc motor, auto.
Thanks to any that previously owns or does own a legend and love to hear feedback on them. GraciaZ!!

I know Legends quite well. There is a fix to prevent blown head gaskets, it involves a different timer for the fans. Do that and you'll have a reliable car. Check the car for torn CV boots and the rear engine mount.

Yep what he said the blown gasket thing is like the tranny issue on the TL's , it's not like it actually might happen to you but that possibility is out there. If you like it jump on it.

just keep the cooling system in check and you should be fine. Definitely check out acura-legend.com. There's a lot of great info there, I remember seeing a lot of threads about what to look for before buying a legend. i'm there w/ the same user name.

1. Do a complete test drive. Drive it at least 10 miles or more on the interstate at highway speed. After the test drive let it run for 5-10 minutes at idle. "MONITOR the temp gauge constantly during the test drive". Once it reaches normal temp it should not move any. Any movement of the temp needle after reaching normal temp is a "RED FLAG". Normal temp is about 1/3 up from the bottom of the range. If it doesn't come up to normal temp it could be an indication that the thermostat has been remove to relieve the overheating symptoms enough to sell it.
2. ASK the tough questions. "Has this car had ANY overheating problems?" Tell them you are aware of the headgasket problems with this model. Watch their reactions to the tough questions. Ask for a 3-5 day warranty on any overheating problems, write it in the bill of sale. Take it on a long trip within those 3-5 days.

If not the head gasket problem, at 123k miles...you are probably looking at a tranny rebuild...otherwise, teh Legend was built to last.

I have the Legend motor and transmission in my '97 TL and i'm approaching 145,000 miles and it drives like new still.
As for the headgasket issue, it was fixed in the later Legends and is not an issue on the 1st gen RL or 1st gen 3.2 TL due to better cooling.

Fellas,
First let me say thanks to the ones to point me to acyra-legend website.
It helped me find the BHG issues when I went to test drive it.
Car run very, very well.
Interior is good 80% some leather cracking, but still very appealing.
exterior is 90% maybe, just maybe 3 small door dings
motor is 95% damn clean and quite.
I am not sure what to say, but are the legends stock vs my stock 99 TL faster?
Man the legend at dead stop was so quick. No lie. very amazed.
Got to 80mph is couple seconds. very responsive and great torque response.
I onlyl found 3 things wrong. The issues are:
1st issue is the motor that sprays fluid on the windshield is not working .Anyone know wwhere the motor is at, and is this part costly? Can it be very easy to remove and replace?
2nd issue is that the passagner rear window does not work at all. What can it be? Motor?
3rd is the sunroof switch is missing. Pwr sunroof works but the swith is no where to be found.
here some snappers:
Thanks

Congrats ..Looks nice, the Legend was way ahead of it's time. I know what you mean about its quickness, when I was stock I had a little run with a legend I'm assuming it had a Type II engine and it stayed with me up till 80 I only had about 1/2 car on him. You should ask the guys on www.acura-legend.com.
Good luck

I have a Type II swap in my '97 TL, its quick (especially compared to other cars of its day). The Legend C32 motor has a decent amount of low end torque, so it really shines around town. The Type II motor means it has an extra 30 hp and is noticeable on the freeway when you're passing someone.
The windshield fluid sprayer might have a clogged nozzle, see if you cant free it with a needle. If its the motor itself, i'm sure a cheap replacement can be found from a junkyard.
The fan's timer is something a dealership can do.
