50Litres challange fuel econ test

Honda Civic beats Toyota Corolla in fuel econ test

impressive for the Honda Civic...running over 600miles for one tank with A/C on

the corolla lasted 550miles but it was good enough, and the rest were no where close

The Honda Civic we used was a "Reverb" version, a coupe with rear spoiler and body kit. We didn't specifically ask for this car - it was available in the press fleet, and has the same engine, manual transmission and general specifications as the DX/SE/LX Civics.
WOW, just a regular civic???????
At 50 - 58 mpg, that is better than the civic hybrid!!!!
How were they driving???

My poor 94 civic LX only gets 27 - 36 mpg.
I want THAT civic from the test!!!!

Keep in mind it is imperial gallons vs. US gallons - 10 US gallons equals approximately 8.327 Imperial gallons (those cooky canuks so they aren't getting 50-58 mpg as we would measure it... Though impressive none the less!

american is probably the only country in the world i know that is not using metrics

LOL

they turn A/C on and drive like normal in a mix of hwy and city, still make that much out of a civic...pretty close to a Golf TDI

So in your measurements, it's more like 41.6-48.2MPG

Yeah they posted the fuel economy in L/100km. They should have selected a manual transmission for all cars though. I can't wait to see how the new civic with the R18 fares.

Yes, for all trim levels except the Si. The Si is getting a 200hp K20 I believe. The R-series is supposed to get improved fuel economy due to reduced pumping losses and some other tweaks to VTEC. There will also be a hybrid version stuck in the Civic Hybrid.

This is the regular R-18. Notice it is SOHC i-VTEC, while the K20 is DOHC i-VTEC. And note the hp is under the new Rev. 8/04 standards:

And this is the hybrid:

The Civic is going to have serious guts compared to the outgoing model. Especially when you take into consideration that is 140hp SAE Rev. 8/04, which generally resulted in an hp number decrease for most cars.
