474k Legend - quest for half a million
Haven't posted recent pics in here for a long time.
Follow me to half a million miles on my blog: http://drivetofive.wordpress.com I've had this old 6-speed Type II beast since early 2003. It had 95,000 miles on the odometer when I picked it up with full service records from the original (female) owner. We've been through a lot together, but the original drivetrain holds strong including the engine, transmission, and clutch. That's right, I've never replaced the clutch. These are highway miles. Paint is original minus the front end (deer collision in 2008). Leather seats were redone in 2004. I drive an average of 45k miles per year. I've only been towed once. The original fuel pump died at 399,750. Other than that, this car has never skipped a beat. Truly a Legend. Here are a few pics from tonight as I was leaving for dinner. Lighting was right for a quick driveway photoshoot. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...odometer-3.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ght_rear_2.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ont_left-8.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...e2/right-2.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ft_rear-10.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...2/front-16.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...e2/back-20.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...iverside-1.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n.../engine-11.jpg I know it needs a vacuum and the front bumper is falling off. This thing is a daily driver. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...nterior2-4.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n.../interior3.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ht_rear-10.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...nt_right-7.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...iverside-1.jpg |

Thanks. It's not showroom but I'm planning on some paint work at 500k to bring it to that level.
Thanks! I appreciate that. It'll get there by the end of 2011. It's had some of the standard Legend quirks. Faulty door lock actuator, bad speed sensor. I've kept very detailed records - in an Excel spreadsheet. I can tell you every single thing that's ever been done to the car in its lifetime (and how much it cost!). I'm on my 5th timing belt & water pump. I am partial to it as well. I also have a sedan in the same color & transmission (GS 6-speed). Front wheel drive 3.2 V6 230 hp! Shigeru Uehara, pioneer of the NSX and S2000. I met him at a Honda S2000 'Homecoming' event at the Honda America corporate office in Torrance, California last September. He'd flown in from Japan for the event. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigeru_Uehara IMO just by sending in your story, you might just help honda get back to it's roots of being known for bulletproof cars that could endure anything. |
Once of the best looking Acuras of all time. Hell, one of the best looking coupes of all times, and a testament how you've maintained it. I'm sure you'll have no trouble reaching your goal. And beyond.

Badass!!!

Terry Wanted one when I was young. Design has held up over time. Too bad Acura went all :ugly: with their cars now. |
Tyson, I'm looking forward to 500K. Hopefully your 500K will be a meeting with the socal Legend group!!
You should put the rims back on too :P |
what year is this car??
And damn you've maintained this car perfectly! |
Incredible! We expect pics at 499,999.9 and 500,000.0. :rockstar:

awesome. Glad to see your car is still doing great. You're making me miss my legend. Maybe I'll have to stop by the old A-L boards since I haven't been there in forever.
|
I hope I can reach that milestone in my Accord. Got 365K more miles to go. :D
Gorgeous car by the way! |
beautiful,...looks awesome!
|
Amazing car for sure. You should reach the milestone with no problem. I hope you keep the car forever even when you purchase another just because it is a rare beauty and in such immaculate condition. That is one of the cleanest engine bays I have ever seen. to you sir.

That is so cool you got to meet him and have him sign your car

500K on a the original clutch even for highway is pretty amazing. Car looks in great condition. When I bought our 1G Legend I really wanted a 2G but at the time 1994, the only ones I could find used were not well maintained and cared for. Always wanted a Legend GS 6MT 4 door.
Let us know when you reach 500K! |
Hard to believe that car has nearly 500,000 miles on it, with an engine bay that clean.
Awesome. Kudos! |
Wow, truly a Legend.
Any idea what you'll do with it after 500K? Keep going? :wish: |
Just went on your blog, really good choice in rims too. RH C2s?
|
as always, one of the best kept 2G-Legends on the road ever... i have no doubts you will reach your goal and more... i hope Honda/Acura recognizes your dedication to their brand with not only one, but two of their legendary models...

I think you should write a letter or something to honda/acura with a photo of your car and odometer and show them what their quality used to be

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...acing_hart.jpg And I thought it would be interesting to plot the car's mileage accumulation over its lifetime with a graph. It's the analyst in me. This was easy to put together since I have the spreadsheet with every piece of service logged. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...e2/mileage.jpg |
Nice blog and great story!
|
Wow amazing to see that on a chart of how the life of the car changed compared to the first half of its life.
 Those wheels look so great on that car. Always a favorite wheel of mine. |
Immaculate looking car. Great job on keeping it pristine.
|
Beautiful car. Congrats on your dedication to keeping so beautiful.
Would it kill Acura to build another coupe on this level? |
Whoa. Looks absolutely stunning!
|
awesome thread

|
This just freaking awesome. You'll hit your goal. Legends never die!!
|

Tyson- As everyone knows at acuralegend.org, this is the Legend of legends. Nice post and your new blog is great. Your high mileage (in polar opposite to my two coupes at 59k and 35k miles) almost makes me feel bad that they don't get the miles like yours do! But, I have had plenty of DD that I have racked up the miles on- just not 500k on any given one ;)
Keep it rolling- I'll see that beast again in July! |
