350Z sellouts look here...
I've been struggling with this decision for a while, but after seeing and driving the Z, I am in love with this car, and I just gotta have one. I was tempted to put money into my CLS for wheels, etc, but driving the Z was just more of a 'visceral' (sp?) driving experience vs. my auto CLS. I looked into buying out my lease and it's gonna set me back about 2200 bucks, minus my security deposit of 400$. The up side is Acura gave me a nice little cash Xmas present that offsets this. So while I'm checking insurance, and sending away for my drivers record, I need some opinions:
1. Which color xterior you think I should get? I like the tonka blue, but the chrome silver seems like a safer choice as far as resale goes. I ruled out black and red because they are a PITA to maintain, and PDG cus of resale.
2. Interior color? I like em all really (leather only) but that orangy color is just pimp.
3. I hear the LSD on the non base models is viscous as opposed to mechanical and I might lose some power there alla auto tranny...it kills me to get a base model anything tho...base/no base???
4. How much should I expect to pay? You think they'll dip below sticker? I want navi, 18's, 6 sp, leather, spoiler, don't need the brembos tho. I'm guessing payments on a buy will be around 700/month. I'm thinking leasing just isnt 4 me.
5. Any other tips are appreciated.

ok make no mistake...I REALLY like black. Black with the 'nasty ass' orange interior lol (thnx danny25). It's just that black is a total pain to take care of and it gets so damn hot in the summer. Constantly battling water spots etc...i dunno...but I do think most sports cars look best in black...
shit. i was hoping this thread would help me make up my mind, now i'm just sitting here scratching my head. You guys got me all riled up about black now.

Dude, get the Enthusiast edition with as many options as you can get and go aftermarket. Its really not worth paying 36k for the a fully loaded Touring with so much aftermarket support out there.

Color: I am partial to orange and orange, but if you are concerned with resale, then that dark silver is fine.
Speaking of resale, it seems like you are more concerned with selling this car rather than loving it as you like it. F that, buy what you want since you are buying, there are plenty of people out there who like the orange.
Check out my350z.com for info, good site.

350Z
I was told by a salesman at a Nissan dealership to order the Z on line direct from the manufacturer if you can. He said dealerships are marking up the cars tremendously and you won't pay anywhere close to MSRP.
As far as color goes it's a personal preference .

thanks 4 the pics beltfed I also agree w/ur sentiment that the daytona is a much better looking color than the carribean blue
maybe if the g35 coupe sells 4 under msrp real soon, the interior wouldn't look so bad 2 me lol

Being that VLSD is more-or-less inactive below a certain output shaft speed difference, it is one of the two LSD types suitable for OEM FWD application. The rationale is that turning produces a difference in the rotation speeds of the tracking wheels. A resistance to that difference (from an overzealous clutch-type LSD) is also a resistance to turning. And the basic problem with FWD is understeer, which you don't want to worsen. Anyways, VLSD doesn't contribute much to this problem, and hence is found in cheaper FWD sporty cars.
(You can put pretty much anything on the rear end of a RWD car, because the car can be easily tuned to understeeriness, neutrality, or oversteeriness.)
But the VLSD is really a cheap cop-out to a better differential on an out-and-out sporting car like the 350Z. One problem with the VLSD in a RWD car is related to its basic functionality of sensing speed differences between the output shafts and applying resistance only past a certain point. In other words, it reacts slower to a loss of grip on one output shaft than a comparable mechanical (aka helical gear, aka Torsen) LSD, which reacts immediately to a difference in output shaft torque. In addition, the VLSD's ability to resist is dependent on fluid viscosity. The problem is that as good as non-Newtonian fluid tech is nowadays, they're still bound to basic physical laws in the same way buffer solutions cannot completely thwart the addition of acids or bases if the addition is allowed to go from a bit to a lot. (An analogy for the bio and chem-heads amongst us.)
Anyways, beyond its operating temperature range, the resisting medium will lose viscosity and basically kill the LSD effect. The harder you run (like in the mountains or on an open track), the quicker heat builds up and the quicker the LSD-effect goes away.
But then again, you are only worried about getting the last bit of power out of an already over-adequately-powered sporting car, so none of this may apply.

Get the track model w/ Pikes Peak White and Black Interior, if possible. The track models will be, by far, the lowest number of Z's produced. As far as aftermarket goes, wait for the boatload of NISMO parts that will become available for this car AND the G35. I dont think you will be disappointed with what NISMO will come out with. Plus, its parts are backed by Nissan.

I'm the same predicament. I love my CL but I'm sick of the cheap paint and the cracking leather. I'm looking at a Track model, Black on Black though I'd go for Silver or Blue. Problem is, around here they're already sold by the time they hit the lots. Haven't noticed any discounts or markups, only MSRP.

I looked at some more pics of the orange seats, and they're starting to grow on me. But I still wouldn't get them with black, to much like haloween. But they wouldn't be that bad with the Daytona Blue.

yeah I love the orange interior. I'm def. goin with that. I've narrowed my exterior color choices down to the dark silver, black(now), or blue. They only offer the orange interior with the black and grey tho, so..I may have a tie for the winner.
I checked insurance today. The Z is LESS much less in fact than what I'm paying now. This looks like a done deal. I can't wait.
