330ci vs. tl-s

My TL-s has all these things done to it (below). I was searching for a 330ci on the internet came across a good deal, a 2001 with 100k miles, sport package, 2 door, pretty much everything. I met up with the guy and we drove each others cars. We already own a 2002 330i with some mods and i love those cars, and i hate to say guys, as much as i love my tl these bimmers handle worlds better. So i drove this 330ci nothing was wrong with it, everything was in perfect working condition. The deal is an even trade, I really want to do it, just one to consult with the pros first, what do you think?

Crazy Bimmer 12-01-2008 10:08 PM

How many miles on your TL-S?

david-s 12-01-2008 10:13 PM

Heres a link with pics

Looks good, no?

david-s 12-01-2008 10:14 PM

98k. need motor mounts badly though, everytime i touch the gas it feels like the engine is about to jump out the hood.

Crazy Bimmer 12-01-2008 10:15 PM

If you have the money for the upkeep on the 330ci after 100k miles then go for it.

But at 18 i rather have a TL-S and beer money. :D

Plus the auto tranny tend to fail after 100k miles on the E46 330ci. Then again so would the TL-S

Get under the rear of his car and see how the rear subframe is also. Fixing that is $$$

david-s 12-01-2008 10:19 PM

(im 19 now)My TLS has a brand new tranny. And everyone says that. Bimmers being expensive to maintain and all. We currently own one, serveral previous ones, never had problems with them, and theyre not much more to maintain than acuras, theyre more but not much.

I dont drink. Wierd for an 19 yr old huh?

phee 12-01-2008 10:28 PM

id stick with the tl-s...

princelybug 12-01-2008 10:28 PM

I'm still weary of Bimmer reliability, Mercedes reliability, and Audi reliability...I guess German car reliability.

david-s 12-01-2008 10:31 PM

Im 100% trusting of bmw and benz, however, audi's are a different story. There nice when they work though.

david-s 12-01-2008 10:32 PM

Ive seen numerous mercedes in the middle east that had over half mill on em!

+1. Former Audi owner here.

david-s 12-01-2008 10:37 PM

What model do you have?

david-s 12-01-2008 10:39 PM

So do yall think it looks pretty cool?

I didnt say it was expensive just that it will be more than the TLS.

Sounds like you already made your choice.

I had a 02 330ci and a 02 TLS, in terms of fun factor i would take the 330 by far.

Your other E46 BMWs never had any tranny issues after 100k miles?

david-s 12-01-2008 10:50 PM

Not one, and we go through cars like crazy, we wholesale them. Between the family we probably owned close to ten of them. We went through tires pretty quickly though. lol

Costco 12-02-2008 05:26 AM

would be a sin not to get it in stick.

:werd:

Other than it being automatic, I'd say go for it. No timing belt service

Scrib 12-02-2008 08:47 AM

Save money, keep TL-S.

Black Tire 12-02-2008 09:23 AM

Keep the TL as long as you can. In 2-3 years time, a boatload of BMW/M-B will come on the market for cheaper.

RyanWithThe99tl 12-02-2008 10:59 AM

i agree with crazy acura kind of seems like you made your choice, but if money isnt the biggest problem id prob just go with the beemer

Trackruner228 12-02-2008 11:02 AM

If you already had the tranny fixed stay with the TL. You would take too much a hit on selling it.

We had an Audi A4 the last 3 years, traded it in in August for an Audi A6. Neither car has had any major issues, and services are free :) . The A6 has only been in our garage for a few months, so too early to tell, but the A4 (it was the 2.0T) was in the shop less then my TL-S was. So my order would be Audi, BMW, Benz. Aunt and Uncle have been through a few Benz's. Not sure why they kept leasing Benz's, but they had problems with almost all of them. Guess it was a love/hate thing. They now have two BMW's (550 and 328i convert) and they have been good so far.

As for the topic at hand... I'd stay with the Acura. It will cost you less in the long run. Save money and buy your own home instead of wasting it on cars. It's a buyer's market out there ;)

Moog-Type-S 12-02-2008 06:21 PM

Stay with your Acura

david-s 12-03-2008 12:23 AM

No money involved. Both cars are paid off, even trade. The 330ci just looks so much more sophisticated and classy, and drives like an actual sports car. The only thing holding me back is my V-TEC!!!!!! I think im going to do it. Sorry guys. :(

swoleCL 12-03-2008 12:24 AM

keep the ac. bmws' after 100k are kinda scary. reliabilty and maintainence wise.

david-s 12-03-2008 12:32 AM

You just cant do this in a tl
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/att...1&d=1176178409
And i already got a list of mods i want to do to it, i want it to look similar to this

There's a number of people here who track their whips.

rp_guy 12-03-2008 08:25 AM

do it. no need to worry about the honda tranny issue anymore

david-s 12-03-2008 12:33 PM

And actually the acura so far is costing me more to own than will this bimmer, since my acura needs a timming belt (500) and motor mounts (700) thats over 1000 worth of mods i could do to the bimmer.

david-s 12-03-2008 12:42 PM

You've clearly made up your mind. Just do it and move on.

:werd: I love it when people come in here with a "what should I do" thread when they've already made up their mind. I personally would never want to own a 100,000 mile bimmer, but what do I know.

Crazy Bimmer 12-03-2008 01:13 PM

I really have no problem with a 330i with over 100k miles.

My issue is this kid is assuming it will be perfect.

Only get it if you understand things MIGHT go wrong and if they do you can handle it.

dom 12-03-2008 01:23 PM

Why would the BMW owner want to do an even trade on this?

invisiblewar 12-03-2008 02:31 PM

^:werd: look elsewhere

david-s 12-03-2008 05:54 PM

because my car is 2 years newer, 2k less mileage, plus i convinced him that his car was a piece of crap and an acura would last him forever.

I never said that car is perfect, but its a lot closer to it than the tl-s is. The only perfect car is a corvette.

david-s 12-03-2008 05:55 PM

anyways going to the deal on it right now, if it doesnt work out, so what i still have my beautiful tl-s

JS + XES 12-03-2008 06:24 PM

late to thread.

keep your tls!

I mean perfect as in you think you will have zero issues with the BMW. Keep funds on the side just in case.

This is coming from a bmw fanboi
