Four different engines for Q50 this year!
Look at that 400 HP V6 turbo!! Is TLX type S coming up at all??
I gotta say I love the interior way better than TLX! Looks and feels more premium.

I agree with Stew as far as only Acura can kill the TLX and so far, they have done a good job at alleniating many of its current owners and prospect buyers (like myself).
Now, I don't agree with Stew on the look of the Infiniti....I think the Q50 is nice and its DAS is what killed it for me. Now I have to agree that the coupe (Q60) is pure sex on wheels for me but looks are relative, says teh guys who loves the predator look of his IS350 F sport.
I sure hope Acura finds a way to step up its sporty image again....I don't need 400hp but something a bit more more potent with an aggressive exterior look, sporty and good looking wheels, combined with non wood interior would go a long way!

Even if the infinity out down eleventy billion horsepower down to the wheels, it still won't kill the TLX. For some reason, not many people buy infinitis. Their sales numbers are always fairly low. I foresee maybe a few people jumping ship to infinity, but it likely goes both ways, with people jumping ship to Acura also.

Killing the TLX?? They do not even fight in the same segment....the Q50 is a class above.......
The Nissan Maxima is a TLX competitor....and it's selling better....

Alex does a great job on reviews.
A "C" for cabin noise??? Swing and a miss there. Plus - I'm not a fan of their interiors - the center stack looks cheesey to me. Plus it's smaller than the TLX which has taken a hit for being a little smaller than the old TL's - so I don't know that this really makes a dent in TLX sales. I think they're good looking cars though - but not better looking than the TLX.

So why haven't you put in an order for a Q50 yet? You seem to love it a lot and it seems like the right car for you judging from your posts.
I too am hoping for a TLX-S. That's why I leased this one (I usually buy). I'm waiting to see what Acura will do in 2018. The TLX will probably get a major MMC.

I don't think Infiniti is thinking much about the Acura with the new coupe, SUV & sedan. Looks like they are trying to move up market with two product lines paralleling the Germans. This is what C&D said about the coupe.
"If Infiniti does indeed have the steering sorted out, the Q60 looks like a legitimate alternative to BMW’s 4-series, the Audi A5, Cadillac’s ATS coupe, the Lexus RC, and the new Mercedes-Benz C-class coupe. If anything, it should be able to handily compete on looks alone."
Based on the screen shots & potential motive power, real time suspension etc I would add the Q60 to the look at list if I was in the market for a another coupe. Right now the 2017 Stingray Grand Sport & the 2017 Boxer GTS have most of my attention so another coupe might not be the way I would go.
A similar take was in the magazines on the sedan. In the vid above on the 4 door it looked like Acura was mentioned on trunk & rear seat space. All the performance metrics were about the Germans & Caddy. 400HP will tend to that with enthusiast publications
Think it was MT that did a first look at the 4 door & the article was all German & Caddy compares & the C&D first drive of the 30 sized SUV was tagged "Meet the better Benz"
Its getting very tuff out there in car sales land. Personally I don't think its an accident that Infiniti is spreading around the 400HP cars for testers first looks. Has them all wetting their collective pants & that's what sets the buzz & frame of reference when the car is talked about. No one will even remember the car has a relativity soft 4 cylinder in the line-up.
Very good marketing strategy.

Of course he's also the one that thinks the 4G styling was gorgeous and just ahead of its time.
Power wise, the upgraded engines are going to be monsters, and the Coupe is gorgeous. Will definitely be giving the 335/435, and S models a run for the money while the base models will still compete where they always have.

Yup, according to Saturn, it's the Maxima, Chrysler 200, and Dodge Charger that compete against the TLX while the Q exists in a class just for itself. Lol.

The Charger disintegrate the TLX on value, looks, gadgets and power.
Think what you want about the 4G but very few owners are "upgrading" ( ) to the TLX....

The combined Q50 + Q40 outsold handly in 2015 the TLX (43K + 8K) without the need of the old Q60 coupe.
Then you have the Maxima that, despite what the TLX fanboys say, competes head on with the TLX....and the Maxima is currently outselling the TLX....

According to the market and specs my friend...the Q50 is not in a class on itself (when I said that??) but it fully belongs to the 3 Series, IS, ATS, etc...segment where the TLX definitely does not...sorry...it somewhat compete just with the entry level trims of these cars.

Yes I am impressed by this new line up that Infiniti has to offer. Do I need a car now? No. I buy cars to drive and keep for at least 6 years (11 yr old Civic still looks new and drives new, and 4 yr old 4G looks like it just left the lot). I am just surprised that Acura really haven't update their market strategy (except the Halo NSX) to be in the competition. When 3G came up, yes it was ahead of the competitions back then (more tech and value). When 4G came up, it was within the competitions (300 HP +SH-AWD and value). In my own opinion, TLX is now behind the competitions after this Infiniti's new line up. All I want to see now is that Acura would at least put out some kind of "real" performance sports sedan... to compete with Cadillac, Infiniti, Lincoln, or even the Lexus. So the "Thrill" will continue to live within Acura!!!! After all, Acura is known for it's performance.... I don't know if I can say that now or not..
What's way more premium about it? The only thing to me that looks more premium are the door cards. That's it. And having actually test driven one because I was actually looking at buying it, the materials don't feel any better at all. Neither did the 3-series or the IS350, or the A3 or A4. The only car that felt substantially more premium was the Mercedes-Benz C-class that I test drove. Unfortunately, it was $12,000 more than the TLX similarly equipped up here in Canada, so I couldn't afford it anyway unless I got a base model, which I didn't want. I don't feel that anyone else is as good at luxury as MB are.

It has nothing to do with being biased or not...it's not a mystery that I do not like the TLX but I would not say is on par with a Civic...is clearly superior...

You right, the Dodge Charger does not compete with the TLX....it does obliterate it almost under any metric and value proposition other than fuel consumption....

Other than a bit more padded leather in the Q50 interior, I think it comes down to favor of design. I would not consider the Q50 to be in a higher class than the TLX. The TLX actually comes standard with more equipment than the Q50 including: power lumbar, heated seats, 2 person memory, split folding rear seats, homelink, and a moonroof. And that's with the V6 TLX base being $800 cheaper than the Q50 base.
The vehicles' dimensions are very similar and the G and TL have always competed with each other. I like the Q50, it's a little more flashy than the TLX imo but that's a good thing. I got the TLX because it felt more refined. Keep in mind to get the same tech in the TLX Advance, the Q50 is about $5k more, so that money has to go somewhere.

Put the car on an hydraulic jack and look at the suspension setup and you will realize why the Q50 cost more than the TLX.

Lol a $5,000 suspension upgrade?? Get over yourself, most everyone would agree the Q50 is not a class above the TLX. The main difference between the cars isn't materials but design.
#28
Design itself is part of the reason why the Q50 is more expensive (do you know the difference between an all light alloy double wishbone front suspension and a simple McPherson strut??)....it has gadgets you cannot even get in the TLX, it has better finished interiors, more powerful engines (now MUCH more powerful engines) better tires, better brakes, it rides better....I'm happy for you that you like your TLX but these are the facts....Infiniti took the G37 and pushed it further upmarket where Acura did the opposite with the transition from the TL to the TLX.

The Charger has enough to deal with on its plate trying to take sales away from Chevy, Ford, and the Accord, Camry, etc. Ever seen a single place where it was compared, to, or marketed as anything but? It must trounce the underpowered high volume selling base Q50 as well using your magic metrics. Whatever metrics these are, who needs them when I can go down to the local rental place, and sit inside, and drive one.
You seem to really confuse your opinions with facts. You can only align yourself with a single person, but even he wouldn't make these same crazy comparisons. Seems to many that the more you post, the only one you are convincing is yourself.
Need to convince you about Maximas, as much as I do about Impalas, Avalon's, 200s, and others more in its class. Tomorrow it will be Malibu's, Fusions, Civics, and Corollas. Just more food for the troll.... Actually it reminds me more about that meme about winning the Special Olympics.. Much more appropriate.

Read between the lines of almost every review about the TLX...it is a mediocre (at best a so-so) car in its segment, I'm just very vocal about it because it is sad what Acura has done....but keep shooting the messenger.... it could have potential but Acura won't do what needs to be done.

Ok, honestly, this thread is incredibly dumb now. All it is based on is personal feelings and opinions. You know it's bad when *I'm* the one saying to stop.
Let the sales numbers do the talking. And last I checked, TLX sales aren't doing all too bad.
And last I checked, I haven't heard anyone on here, or around me, say they will ditch their TLX for the new 400hp q-whateverit'scalled.

lol wow this blew up fast...
Ok As far as Maxima goes... The current maxima I think is an ideal TLX competitor. I think it's a little bigger, both FWD entry level near luxury sedans with sporting aspirations. I in fact love the interior of the new Maxima. The exterior (especially the front 1/3 of the car) is the worst kind of over designed, bloated garbage I've seen on the road lately. I drove one right before buying the TLX and I liked it, for all but a handful of things... 1) I don't think it's worth the price of admission, 2) it has a CVT, and I can't stand CVTs... 3) I like cars with good sight lines out of the passenger compartment and it did not have it.
Everything else about the Maxima was actually really good.
@Saturno_V, have you driven a charger? I'm not hating on Chargers, I think they have a cool aggressive look, and there certainly is a market for large american cars especially on RWD platforms (competition mostly is against large car category though, ranging from Accords, to the step up model Charger that competes against Avalons and Maximas, to the performance models that can compete against the Chevy SS and a few other cars). But having driven 2 of them, both 2013 or newer models, the build quality and refinement is abysmal if you're comparing to anything TLX/Q50 or higher. It's one thing to say this car performs better than that car, but that's just one aspect of the car. A Charger RT will outperform a BMW 535, but that doesn't mean it's a "better" overall car. Depends on what "metric" is most important for you. If you want cheap performance in a large car then a high end Charger is very enticing.
As far as the Q50 is concerned... I actually really like everything about that car, I think it looks aggressive without being too wacky, has a nice profile, has good performance, is reasonably comfortable (not as comfy or roomy or quiet as the TLX), has that RWD platform with near 50/50 balance, and is very reasonable pricing wise if you get a 1-2yr old CPO (terrible infiniti resale value helps lol). The reasons I went with a TLX after driving the Q50 a few times were for a couple reasons as follows: The TLX has more room and as I have a car seat and need of another one soon, I need the extra room in the back, acura resale value if I want to sell it, and fuel efficiency, and also the inifiniti's touch screen infotainment looks cool in still photos BUT in practice is pretty annoying to use as it has huge input delay. I think these new motors and the update to the DAS will definitely help the Q50 out as far as enthusiasts and auto reviewers are concerned, but where the sales bump will be is in the lowest priced 4cylinder model. I doubt too many of the 400hp twin turbo 6 q50 will be sold, but maybe they are expecting that.
Either way I think the competition is great for us as enthusiasts b/c it gives Acura one more reason to bring out a TLX-typeS with a detuned twin turbo 6 from the NSX lol
one can hope and dream :-)
At least the Acura marketing team is doing better with this new line of commercials emphasizing their new slogan

After the Charger comments, I won't indulge the troll any longer. Waste of time,
These engines will be awesome to have, and will help drive sales from association, just like Halo cars do for a brand. Hopefully it puts Acura, and everyone in the class on alert as banner numbers like these generate buzz, and help sell cars.
They won't be the volume sellers for one simple reason; price. If the base engine which is pretty underpowered stays at current levels, the range topping twin turbo is going to be $$$$. Push cars in this class well into the $55-60k+ territory, and you now have competition from cars a class above like the 5series, A6, etc. In today's market you could drop 400+hp into a TLX/Q50/3/A4, etc, and at that price level, most wouldn't pony up the extra money without it being an S/RS/M/AMG model.
I hope it does sell well, just to force others to compete. Don't think I will ever go to a boosted 4 cylinder in the future, but a turbo, or supercharged 6 cylinder would definitely be in the cards.
