UPDATE: Colorado State Patrol have revealed that the driver of the crashed 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was 34-year-old Lance Utley. He was traveling along Riverdale Road with two passengers when he lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. Authorities have confirmed that there were no injuries, and that they are charging the driver with careless driving.
Deliveries of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat only commenced a month ago but the injury toll is already mounting. The crash involving this lime green example is easily the worst so far; it happened on a stretch of road in Colorado.
There is little information surrounding the events but it is believed the owner only picked up the car from the dealer an hour before it ended up like this. Some information from the scene suggests the car skidded off the road near a bend and crashed head-on into a tree.
Fortunately, we hear no one was seriously injured. The same can’t be said for the car; as this image from Facebook page shows, this 707-horsepower muscle machine is likely to be a complete write-off.
We’ve driven the new Challenger SRT Hellcat and found that it delivers performance that will leave even those used to powerful cars awestruck, so this sad sight serves as an important reminder for buyers of such cars to always factor in their own skills and consider whether the cost of performance driving course should be included in their price estimations. It’s also a good reminder for everyone to stay safe over the Christmas and New Year break.

I heard he was only driving with the 500hp key, too.
But that is unconfirmed.

You have to respect that kind of vehicle. Act like a jerk off and it going to bite your dick off.

I wonder if this dude gets another Hellcat or decides this is a sign and gets something he can more easily handle.

Had the crap scared out me more than once, and this was driving carefully with PS2's that only had approx 2,500 miles on them before I switched to A/S 3's..

People who ordered the satin black hood are being asked to switch their order to a body colored hood due to a production delay. BTW the factory has no idea when the delay will end..

I just saw my first privately owned hellcat in the wild. Right where my challenger got totalled.
It sounded glorious when he got on it.

It would be interesting to see if he gets ass-raped by the insurance co with the difference in what he paid for the Hellcat vs. what they pay out as a total loss - even if it was an hour old.

Yes. He obviously can handle it.

I saw a guy total a Viper back in 2000, he made it 30 feet out of the dealership and slammed straight into the median. I don't know if Dodge offers driving classes anymore but they use to for the Vipers. That guy turned down the class and signed the waiver form.

The Dodge offers the SRT experience if you buy an SRT. Everyone that has done it has raved about it.
1st/2nd Gen Vipers are down right dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. That is definitely a car you HAVE to respect.

Since this one of the first few to be delivered I would guess he had ordered it a while back, so he probably paid MSRP or slightly over...
However, if there was any type of crazy market adjustment on the car, well then the owner is screwed.

My favorite power story involves a NASA mechanical engineer I knew. He was working one college summer with only another guy at a full service gas station in rural WV in the early 70's. In the rear customer parking lot in for service was a Shelby AC427 (real one not a replica) which belonged to a friend of the station's owner.
That afternoon they debated taking the AC out for a joy ride. Gary (mechanical engineer) wanted to do it, the other guy was against it saying they'll get fired. Finally he musters up enough courage to get the keys and take off for a short solo ride, his co-worker telling him it's a bad idea.
After warming up the motor and tires, he proceeds to go a little further with speed and throttle on some empty country roads. He got a little bold coming out of a increasing radius right turn and punched the throttle. In a snap the little Cobra does a 180 oversteer slide to the gravel shoulder on the opposite side stopping with only feet to spare from going down a steep hill.
He carefully drove it back to the station and parked it, and told his his co-worker what happened who reminded him again it was a bad idea. Said it was the most unforgiving thing he ever rode or drove and he owned some tricky bikes as well (Kawasaki H2 and Honda CBX1100). He blamed almost wrecking it on his inexperience, heavy front bias, and 70's radial tires.

Oliver!!!
I remember a lot of similar stories when the 1st Vipers came out. My dad was a tech at Dodge and one of only 3 in the state at the time that was allowed to work on them. He slid one sideways but managed to hold the slide and get it straight again. Almost every one that went out of the dealership came back within a month. They all went to him because people are stupid and floor it with the engine cold, his buddy (the transmission guy in the shop) because they didn't know how to properly drive a manual with that much power or the body shop.

My >400hp Charger can get sideways without much effort, I can't even begin to imagine what the Hellcat would do. It's a 4400lb 707hp RWD car. If you're driving it the least bit aggressive on a cold, wet road then you're asking for trouble. Like any other car, you have to respect the environment in which your driving it in regardless of how much horsepower it has.
