Yes, I can help you out with that... My buddy deals with vw/porsche/audi/mb.
If you are serious about getting vw, then get rid of your Hyundai first... He can't help you with that part, better to come hands free than bringing in trade-in.
I personally don't want to waste his time and yours, so when you are ready for vw... then shoot me a pm with detail... I will forward it to him and he will give you a crazy deal.

btw, don't bother to ask me for an Audi deal. little supplies = no deal.
I originally wanted A6 or A7, but they couldn't give me any deal, so I went cross street to MB to get my E.

Is GLI much bigger than GTI?
All the reviews of GLI are pretty bad. They said something like it's the bad version of GTI.

I'm not at all impressed with the new GLI at all. It's a disappointment.
I think you'd be better off getting a 4-door GTI (which is a better car in every way) even if it doesn't have a trunk.

I think the new Jetta (GLI) is a new design, while the GTI (Golf) isn't just a hatchback Jetta anymore. The main gripe I hear about the Jetta is the downgrade in interior quality, I'm guessing where VW cut costs to get MSRP down.

Basically, GLI is a watered down version of GTI.
I've driven the GTI many, many times. It wasn't aggressive enough for me to pull the trigger on one when I had a chance. If GLI is not as fun as GTI, then it's a no no for me.
But I mean if you REALLY need that extra 16 inches of length, go for it. I'm sure it's not that bad.

all GTI's should be Germany.

GLIs are made is Mexico. The main complaints were lights, interior and rattles. Lots of rattles. The '13 will get the new lights but will have the same leatherette. The GLI Autobahn package is a few grand cheaper than the GTI. The new Golf/GTi probably won't be here until the end of next year.

Scott, if you end up waiting a bit the new Focus ST will be out. It might give you the room and driving you're looking for at the cost level too.
If I were looking to drop $30k on a car it would probably be my first choice right now. Assuming it drives like the mags say it does.

Well, I prefer the GTI to even the ST Focus. Even thought I want a GLI, the sensible side is telling me that "made in Germany" > "made in Mexico". But, the GTI ($31,695) costs $4K more than the GLI ($27,795). $4K is hard to swallow.
BTW...on VW's website, the GTI is it's own car model, while the GLI has to be found within the "Jetta" model, during configuration.

The GTI base price with DSG /sunroof is about 1100$ more. Where did you take 4K?
#61
The $4K, as I mentioned above, is from VW's website. That's the price difference of each model fully loaded.
If I decide to go with a VW, I will not be looking at any of the base models, only fully loaded Autobahn models.

Why don't you wait one more year for the next generation GTI? And the Focus ST is supposed to an AWESOME car. Why do you not like it?
Don't expect any logical response from Saintor.
And I hate to say it but one of my best friend with 2010 GTI sold his car because his car was going through so many electrical problems that the dealer couldn't fix over 2 years. My brother in law's GTI has couple electrical problems on his 2011 model in Korea.
I'm just saying don't expect something that's 100% bulletproof because they are made in Germany.

If I wait too long...my trade-in value will drop. Ideally, I don't want any extra money out-of-pocket, or the least amount possible. I don't doubt the Focus being a nice hot hatch, but I just don't like it.
I still prefer the GLI over the GTI.

Please elaborate on what technical issues you speak of. I'm curious to know. This would help me in my decision.
BMW revised the tire size for 2012 and the 3-series F30 has now 225/45/18, the same as on your Sonata 2.0T and that I bought (they kept the 225/40 profile for the 19", though) It is a small change but makes a BIG difference. I never want to deal with 225/40 again.
2. Although I am an advocate for it, I don't want a car that I can't defeat ESP occasionally . If you never even thought about it, it may not matter to you at all. AFAIK, you can't turn it off on current VW but I am not sure on other models.
3. Unless it changed for 2013, GLI doesn't offer Xenons (while the GTI does). It is not a must have option for me, but my previous Bimmer had it, and it would be nice to have it again.

GLI review from autoblog, read it. I read it a long time ago kinda forgot what it said.

Insideline has a long term Jetta TDI. Find out whats similar with your model and this model go through it, they have some complaints here and there. See if the interior for the most part is the same cause I think thats where most of the complaints were.

Thanks!
I've actually already read any and all 2012 + 2013 GLI articles that I could find. Some several times, including the one above. The reason I posted this thread was to see what I could get by trading my car in, so I can leverage the dealer for a fair transaction.

Have you seen this one?
The GLI was on the top of my list knowing that problems were guaranteed. I would have tested one if my local dealer had one on the lot.

Stop your imbecile harassment habit, son. Let's keep this thread clean.
1. 225/40/18 tire profiles are nasty. I passed 2 sets of them and the ride over bad roads is unacceptable; I had 3 bent wheels fixed and 1 blown tires. BTW, once at the wheel shop last year, I was talking to another client, who had incidentally a Jetta GLI 2008 or so. I bought my 3rd set last month of tires and they are 225/45/18. The difference is like night and day over bad roads.

Again; I fixed 3 bent wheels and 1 tire. Also front struts were changed last Friday, rather early at 65K miles. Now with the 225/45, harshness is out for good.

BMW didn't change from 40 to 45 because you bent 3 wheels. They changed it for various reasons, mostly because of complaints of the harsh ride of the RFT tires. The new tires on the F model 3 series is a new generation of RFT's, and supposed to be so much better, you won't even realize that you're driving a car with RFT's.
My 18" Wheels and 225/40/18 tires on my GTI didn't have any superpowers that I never had a problem with them. Makes me wonder why I've had 3 of the 4 wheels on my Mini with RFT tires and 205/45/17 rubber replaced so many times.
Apples and Oranges, son.
Back on topic.
