2011-13 Kia Sorento vs. Nissan Rogue

2011-13 Kia Sorento V6 (all trims)

2011-13 Nissan Rogue (SV or SL)

I hate my 2008 TL, burns a lot of premium gas, too hard to get in and out of, too low, too small, suspension is too soft and I want to get away from luxury name brands as they are higher in maintance cost and fewer people will offer to repair them, so on...

I'be also considered Sonotas, Optimas, and Altimas, not as bad, but still low... Not buying yet, just curious on what you all think...

I'm looking to trade or buy a car that won't cost me much more than my 2008 TL's value, maybe just a little more....

I've also thought about the Nissan Murano (2009-10) era'... Or maybe a Sportage (11-13) or Santa Fe 3.3 V6 (07-09).

Just tell me what y'all think, share your expiramce a of you have had one with these cars... Thanks!!!

Sorry, I couldn't find the poll calculator...

Those particular suggestions won't achieve some of those goals (fuel cost, soft suspension), and some might conflict with each other. A larger car will typically get worse fuel economy and have a softer suspension.

Maybe something like a Kia Soul? CR-V? Actually a Subaru Forester or Outback might be a good compromise.

Someone else can chime in here, but I think if you want a crossover or other type of larger vehicle, getting one with a V6 won't be much cheaper on fuel, if at all.

Fuel economy would be an added bonus, but not my first priority...

I drove three Kia Sorentos, and a Rogue, all seemed to not have that bounce or drive like a boat... I'm curious of how much low end a midrange torque both cars have... I had both an 08 & rented a 16 Camry, both I4s, both cars had significantly more torque than the 3.2 TL... I hear the 3.5 Sorento is supposed to have nice torque...

I'm interested in what people have to say about their cars or other cars that share engines and transmissions or other things that are similar vehicles to what I put in the description... No, my main priorities are easy to get in and out of, smart key, solid steering feel...

I don't really know the reliability record of those choices, but an accord or camry might be a more reliable less expensive to repair vehicle.

Neither. I'd go for CRV or RAV4. More CRV though. Kias of that vintage are terrible and Nissans of almost any vintage are also terrible.

I have a '12 Sportage. Super underated! it's a great car! (in terms of being a super reliable means of transportation.) it does have an engine recall, so if you look at Kias...make sure you get one that has the recall performed.
but other than that...in terms of a means of transportation, you cant get any simpler than this. simple brakes, simple engine, simple interior. will last longer than my TL. only because the TL is more complex.

I had a 2007 Kia Sportage from Nov 2008 until it was totaled in Jan 2016... 79K miles, absolutely flawless except burning up both 02 sensors from a bad jump start in Jan 2013... I also have a 2001 Camry that was perfect, but had an oil leak that I tried to fix with re-seal crap, that ended up blowing my engine... But it still drives 5mph.. Either way, both of these vehicles were absolutely perfect... But I need a newer, more modern vehicle that can last and strive in the way these two did...

As as far as I'm concerned, unless you buy it brand new, Hondas are junk, most people ignore maintaince and drive them
like a Chevy around here... They all clunk and rattle, steering requires constant correction (gonna get me killed one day, lol) So I can't consider CR-Vs, hand I just hate RAV4s...

So im down to Kia/Hyundai and Nissan... Maybe Mazda, but I can't justify Toyota and Honda anymore... I had a 2008 Camry, what a POS!!!

CX5 would make a good choice.
I think I'd still take a CRV over the Sorento (though the Sorento is more of a Pilot competitor) & definitely over the Rogue.
Santa Fe Sport isn't a bad choice.

Very nice!!! But they're just a little too new and a little over budget, sadly...

I looked them up yesterday, the CX-5 is nice, but it would have to be the 2.5... Still a little steep in price, 12-14k and not AWD so it's a 2.0, yuck...

I am still a little open to sedans, they're cheaper to buy and easier to find...

I found a 2012 Sonata SE 2.0T for $7,995 with 102k miles for example... I could nearly break-even with my TL on a deal like this, I paid a $1k more for my TL last year, go figure...

As for the Sorento (SX), what I really want, I've found two for just under 10k, but they sold virtually instantly... Usually they run around 12k, which means I need to come up with 4-5k fast, in a perfect world, lol... The Rogues really have a nice style to them, very sleek, dressed with chrome, looks nice in a dark color... Suspension and steering are excellent from what I could tell, materials are nice, seats are comfortable, it's just the right size...

Reason I'm not really paying much attention to the Sportage is bacause the are actually more expensive than the Sorento used... None of them are the turbo, and when a 2.0T Sportage comes up for sale, they expect top dollar... I've haven't found one in over two years in my general area... It seems everyone bought the LX...

So, this is what I've found to be an average good deal on all of these cars:

2011 Kia Sorento LX V6 100k miles $9500

2011 Kia Sorento SX V6 100k miles $12000

2012 Nissan Rogue SV or SL 100k miles $9000

2012 Hyundai Sonata 100k miles $7-9000

2011 Nissan Altima SL 100k miles $8500

kinda a rough idea^^^

I kinda wants to "unload" of my TL...

Off the beaten path, but I'm looking at a 2011 Koa Optima EX 2.4 fully loaded, heated/cooled seats, pano sunroof, smart key, ect... 165k miles, and it cost 3k less than my TL is worth... Car appears to be in nice shape, black on biege... Needs lower bumper insert, otherwise, cosmetics look great in and out...

Never even sat sat in an Optima yet, so we'll see...

Co-worker has a 13 or 14 SXL & it's a nice car, problem free except for an immobilizer problem that had the car stuck at the office. Resolved in 1 overnight repair visit to the dealer.

My wife has the same one you're looking at. 2011 EX fully loaded everything except the turbo. I dumped a decent amount of money into the vehicle to modify it. It still turns heads even after 5 years of ownership. It passed the engine test and only has 51,000 miles. When we bought the car, it was a huge improvement over her bare basic 2010 Ford Mustang V6. The thing was brutal on gas and produced the same HP as her Optima does. For fuck sakes, the damn thing had manual pull seats. The Optima was overall a great improvement. As time has gone on, my wife and I would really love to buy a Mercedes GLE 450. We looked at the ML63's back a little over a year ago. Almost pulled the trigger on a certified one, but I decided against it after all the pros and cons. The main issue I have with the Optima, is that it's slow. I'm not taking about wanting earth shattering 1/4 mile and 0-60 runs, overall it's just slow. when you need the power the most, it's not there. I regret not pushing for the SX or SX-L. Fuel economy is okay for her daily commute. On the highway, it tends to range from 25-32 mpg. Local driving is roughly 18-22 mpg. The car hasn't given us any real issues. All maintenance is up to date. Very important to get a carbon cleaning done to the engine, since it's direction injection. I've been using 93 octane and synthetic oil since the day we bought the car. It had less than 5,000 miles when we bought it. I think a major part of why the engine hasn't failed the test is due to the fact I use synthetic and run the interval 4800-5K. I do have a build thread on the Optima, https://acurazine.com/forums/car-tal...-lexus-924159/
A good forum wits lots of valuable information and help from members Kia Optima Forum. The most recent mod I did, swap out the old HID kit I installed for the Morimoto HID kit. One of the best investments IMO. The light output is a lot better than what I installed a few years ago. IMO, 2013 SX-L would be the best choice for you, since it has e every single option.

I felt like that 2016 Camry 2.5 SE was fast enough, even my old 2008 SE Camry 2.5 was not too shabby, just sounded like crap...

Gonna get lunch, then see about a drive after that...

Either way, the car is on the coast where's my TL is just 45 minutes south of Jackson...

So, going throgh with this would mean another trip back down to bring them the TL, in the RDX right now...

I hpoe it has some low end torque, and not be like the TL in that departmrnt, we shall see... Looking forward to the EPS!!!

I drove the Optima, nice car!!!...

Lots of torque, not a whole lot of power, but it accelerates smoother than the TL, in a way...

Steering is is light in parking lot, and solid on the road... Suspension isn't super stiff, but better than the Camry:/...

Overall, it's just a better car than the Camry or the TL... Also, everything works!!!

Needs tires, which probably explains a slight pull to left, needs front lower bumper inset, and needs the floor in the trunk... It's a used car, but it was taken care of atleast...

One question, how much more was insurance vs the TL, if y'all had one too? My TL was a little cheaper than the Camry to insure... No buggy, but curious...

Not bad... Car is $5800, TL averages $5300 on trade, in decent shape, so I may get an almost free new car, IF this was to work out, but so far, I feel safer in the Optima, it's not perfect, but it's not a burden either... Remember, I want a Sorento, but it costs double the money then a can do...

I've had the TL for 11 moths two days ago...

I've already ordered LEDs for the plates, ordered LEDs for the interior, SilverstatUltra for low beams (which are currently awful, dimmer at night than the TLs DRLs) lower grill portion and trunk liner, and spare jack handle (these were missing upon purchase).... Getting quotes on tires next week, thinking either Michein Pilot/Premeir or Goodyear Eagles, the current Continental tires are almost dead and make the steering feel wobbley... Please give me some feedback here... Otherwise, loving the car, got up to 37mpg driving home the other night... It handles better than the TL, shifting is much smoother and more responsive, it's also very fast... 0-60 in 7.04 seconds with me and a passenger, loaded trunk and full tank of gas, warm night, bad tires... This thing gonna fly with few upgrades!!!

Michelan LXT tires seem cool, maybe I'll check that out... Please guide me, don't know much about this... I need good handling, tight steering response (no dead spot on center) and decent snow/ice control, I'm in south Mississippi, but still had two snow falls last winter, with one over 8", which was record breaking... I was scared driving the RDX with its Bridgestone Dulhers, rear end slid out sideways twice, in just 2" of snow... Not looking for something to take on the artic circle, but I want to feel confident on our annual snow day...

Not sure on the snow part, but if available in your size, the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ we have on our Flex are really good all-around tires. Excellent heavy rain performance & great grip in the dry, for a performance all season tire.

Thanks, really appreciate the info!!!

I've done some research on other forums, these tires seem to do pretty well in snow from what I understand...

I currently have thsese tires :

LF - Firestone Champion
LR - Michelin Primacy
RF - Mastercraft (?)
RR - Continental

^^^Yeah!!!

Anyway, my TPMS flashes for the first 30 sec. after being started, then stays illuminated... Also, traction control flashes under heavy acceleration at higher RPMs...

My interior lights, dont work on the door setting, it's not the switch in the door jamb as the door ajar warning still functions properly... Fog lights do not work, but the bumper and radiator are messed up as it appears to have been driven over a curb really hard... Lower grill portion was missing, got one, got it most of the way on, clips are all broken, I really need a new bumper... Splash guard on bottom is missing...

The headlights (low beams) are really dim, I can barely see 20 feet in front of me... High beams seem normal... I put Slyvania Silverstars in it, which aren't white really (Phillips Diomond Visions are WAY better, but don't come in H11B)!
I hope the PIAA's are better... The new bulbs are marginally better than what they replaced, but that's all I can get for now... I think the reflective film inside the projector is gone, the cutoff on the projectors are not very sharp at all, I know they're halogen projectors, but I can't see the sharp cutoff line... This may be a symptom of the reflective coating being damaged...

Looking for import plate screws that are long, like 2" long, the threads are inset quite a bit and theres not enough slacker to thread through the plate, clear cover, frame, and screw cap...

So far,

Sylvania Sliverstar Ultra (low beams)
LED plate lights
LED reverse lights
LED map lights
LED vanity lights
(no other interior lights work)

I think that's it... Gonna look for plate screws today...

Will be ordering the "EX" emblem that fell off, these seems to look fine without being debadged...

Will try to get tire quote next week...

I need some inspiration, should I put conventional black "K" emblems, or should I go red, they have them on eBay...

The he red ones would be on the front bumper and trunk, does this seem like a good idea?

And dang, I need new headlights...

Thinking about ordering the black "K" emblems, the red looks a little strange... It would preserve that black/chrome look!!!

Found a kit for under $12, that might just do!!!

Tires, sadly appears the Michlean Pilot A/S 3 doesn't come in 215/55/R17, I was thinking either Michlean Premier A/S V, I think it was, and Continental DWS 06, which may be a winter tire in a way, I do want winter performance, but good handling and road feel... On center steering firmness and response is my biggest concern... These crappy mixed tires are causing my steering to feel like a sponge in a way... Getting quote Friday, thanks...

What about Pirelli P Zero Ultra High Performance All-Season tires? I don't know...

Feel alright about the Michlean Premiers, hope they aren't too soft, but someone on Youtube says that it made his Accord feel much sportier than the stock Yokohama Avid Envigors... What about Goodyear Eagle Sports, idk???

Still kinda feeling the Michlean Premiers at heart...

Either way, is this better than I have?

I want to not get board with car, I afford to trade my car a third time...

I will appreciate anything anyone has to say, running blind...

Thanks!!!

Edit, If either brand doesn't show, just click on the specific manufacture tab. Read the reviews on the tires.

Still feeling the best about the Michlean Premier A/S V, it's the best Michlean tire they make in my size, and I can't do a swap on the wheels right now... Also, I've been looking on tire rack and can get them delivered for about $165 each... I guess this is as good as I can do...

I also ran into a problem where on first start of the day I have a brief high idle (1800 rpm), this lasts like 30 seconds, then instantly goes down to a normal (800-1000 rpm), it feels a little rough, then smoothes out, but if a do a quick jab on the gas pedal, it will rev fine, then return to a low (500 rpm) for a second before going back to regular idle... This just started last night, and is was accompanied by a CEL, OK, thinking 02 sensor, throttle position sensor... Gonna take her to AutoZone tonight and pull codes...

MAP sensor code... I did disconnect the battery Tuesday, but this code came up Wednesday night... I notice slight roughness at cold idle, and it seems to speed up and slow down coasting about 30 mph, either that, or its gear hunting, but I hadn't noticed it before...

I found a set of 4 wheels, TPMS sensors, fitted with Kumho Solus KH25, they look new, and my wheels have gotton white and dull looking, so new wheels would be nice, but the tires seem like junk getting about a 3/10 on tire rack...

Seller is asking $750 free shipping... Still getting quotes on Michleans today...

The cars I've driven with the Kumho Solus tires, I wasn't particularly impressed with the tires...

the one thing i'm impressed by; is your ability to find cars that fit your needs, while swapping them out every so often! cool shit.
I suppose these cars are cheap enough to where you can swap cars via trade or something where you arent losing massive amounts of cash.

i'm going 9 years with the TL and the itch of something else is getting to me...but I would do it like you and buy something equivalent price wise, so i'm not bleeding cash lol

Thank you, that was very nice... I didn't pay for the red Camry, that thing was scary to drive and I felt totally unsafe, the TL costed $1825, to upgrade, then this car costed $624 to upgrade to...

I guess in in some ways it's not an upgrade, it's an I4 so it has more TQ than the TL and may be just as fast, but does have the typical droneing of a large displacement 4 banger... But it costs $10 less to fill up per tank, and gets much better fuel economy than the TL... I feel more confident in this car, it's a Kia, I've had them before, I know what I'm getting into, that sort of thing, it's not perfect, but it has it's good qualities such as all glass being OEM, not having in dents on the body, interior is almost perfect, and so on...

I got got a tire quote, $800 for a set of Michelin Premier A/S V installed, TireRack was $165 e/a, and it's $200 for disposal and install, so that's about $45 a corner, I feel like that's a fair deal, and it's a real place not *walmart*!!!

The tires are $169 ea. so $30 per tire for work, I feel good about this...

He also said Michelin is slowly going from the Pilot to the Premier, I'm not totally getting that idea, but I have and EX Optima and not the SX, so I have 17" not the 18", that's why I think I can't find the Pilots in my size... I have pedestrian wheels, oh well, I still like it...
