2007 TLS faster that a 2003 CLS-6

We just recently added a new TLS to the family and am curious to know if my CL would be quicker... I know that the easy answer is to line them up and try, but my wife might have something to say about that (the TL is her's).

I think the 6MT is a significant advantage ( the TL is auto). I also have a bunch of bold on mods on the CL while the TL is stock.

What do you think... will it be close?

an stock auto TLS puts down about 250 WHP, thats what I saw in the 3rd gen section. Do you know how much the CL put out?

You should change thread title to "Is 2007 TLS faster than a 2003 CLS-6"
I thought from your thread title that you actually had some info on these cars.

your car should beat her tl-s auto pretty easily I think, mainly because of your mods. If it was stock vs. stock I think it would be a close race if you're a good shifter.

Thanks guys... I would hate to have the "slow" car.

I think that XXPN... is close in the estimate of stock WHP for the CLS at about 200. I am a bit surprised to hear that the WHP number of 250 on a stock TLS auto. I would have thought there would be more losses thru the auto transmission.

I have never dyno'ed my car so I don't know what it lays down. I have seen a chart from Comptech showing a CL-S 6 speed with I/H/E laying down 249. I may get a few more ponies with the UR Crank pulley but basically it looks like HP output may be pretty close to the new TLS. I am sure that the 3.5 will have quite a bit more torque so it will probably get me off the line. Launches are pretty tricky with a 6MT.

Sorry about the thread title... it is a bit misleading, and it is now too late for me to edit it.

theres a vid in second gen, of an auto CLS vs a TLs. the cl has bolt ons and the TL only has an intake. TL could only take it by a car it looked like. the vid is new.

vtec.net just recently dyno'd the 6mt '07 TLS at 253whp, so there's no way that the 5 speed auto came out 3 whp less!

Stock 6mt CLS dyno is about 215WHP.

The TLS auto or 6mt has more power, but the new TL is heavier then then CLS. Also has bigger rims/tires & that adds more rolling weight.

Even with most bolt on's the CLS still dyno's about 240WHP. Now does the TL have enough juice to overcome the weight increase?

Well then just put an air intake restrictor on her car. Problem solved.

I agree with turkeybaster that the 250WHP for the auto TLS is bogus... I checked out the posting on the TL side and there were some questions raised about the dyno calibration. It is more likely in the 220-230 range if the 6MT-TLS is 253WHP.

So I may have a small edge in HP but it the torque difference that will count off the line... but maybe the extra weight will negate that advantage.

I have not had a chance to really try the TLS WOT as the car is still new (600m abstinence) but it feels pretty impressive. I love the paddle shifters... very quick... not like the TSX that has a huge delay.

I also did not know that the TLS was heavier that our CLs...

Thanks for the input guys... I would like to think that my modded CLS would be a little quicker... if (when) I get a chance to try it out I will let you know.
