2006 Mazdaspeed 6 vs. 2006 Legacy GT Ltd.
I've narrowed my new car search to these two vehicles.
Just wondering what everyone's opinion on them is.
Online reviews are great for both and I'm stuck.
The prices are dropping crazy on these vehicles, i've been quoted $24,700 on the Legacy GT and the Mazdaspeed's have been selling for that recently.

I'd go Legacy. Subaru's experience with Turbo's and AWD lead me to believe it will be a better all round car and probly more reliable. Its also the better performer of the two according to reviews anyway. Not to mention that IMO it looks alot better.
Although the MS6 is a great effort from Mazda.

They're both nice cars, but I gotta say that of the two, I actually would take the Legacy GT. Its AWD system is better sorted and the car just looks better from all angles.
The Mazdaspeed6, at least during my test drive, felt like the AWD system didn't react quickly enough so you would get a lot of understeer initially before the AWD was able to take the power and shift it to the rear. Plus, the Mazdaspeed6 just looks odd from certain angles.

I have driven the MS6 but not the LGT yet and, I tend to lean toward the Subaru. Although I generally like their products, I still have some concerns about Mazda's quality. I was quoted close to invoice on the MS6 by Open Road Mazda (East Brunswick, NJ).
pebe, as RandyMax indicated, you may have seen the Legacy Outback 3.0R sedan which resembles the regular Legacy but has more ground clearance for "offroad" purposes. The regular Legacy rides fairly low.

The GT.
I test drove the 6 and the AWD is not really that great. Its front wheel drive biased. Also what everyone else has said about Subaru, them having more experience in AWD and turbos, plus they can be modded.......

...and the count would be:
LGT = 100% (20 votes)

I drove both of them back to back 2 weeks ago at the new dealers in nashville. I was VERY impressed by the mazdaspeed6, it was more planted, faster, had a better gear box, and the interior was very nice. The suspension was agreeable and useable. I dont know if it was the specific car or all mazdaspeeds, but the clutch was a heaping pile of shit and made the car a pain in the ass to drive (and this is coming from someone who never had 1 problem on a porsche or sti or elise). It was like a freaking laborghini! I wouldn't buy it since I couldn't let anyone drive it unless they were experts in manual transmissions.
The LGT was a little more of a grown up car, and had a perfect balance of lux, sport, and quality. I was a little dissapointed that NEITHER comes with folding seats in the back. If I had to choose, LGT all the way. I think with a few tweaks, Mazda could have built a better car but they fell short.
Also, I was REALLY impressed with both of the interiors, but the LGT gets the nod.

Could someone who has driven the mazdaspeed 6 confirm the clutch thing? Or was that a case of one bad product? It seemed to have a huge notch 1/2 way down the throw. The dealer was trying hard to get rid of it (but this could be because they just opened)

Yeah, the clutch was not at all agreeable on the one I drove either.

As I have had automatic cars the last few times and am far from an expert with an MT but, I stalled the MS6 3X on my test drive. That said maybe the clutch play was the problem I experienced as I never stalled my friends' RSX-S and S2000 nor the Alti SE-R and G35S 6MT I test drove.
Personally, the only hangups I had with the MS6 was a) how cheap the interior seemed and b) that the exterior styling did not seem as nice as the regular 6.

exactly and as far as the car being faster i haven't seen any mag (road and track, car and driver, etc) post a ms6 time faster then the average lgt low 14s posted everywhere. are you sure it just didnt feel faster? cuz my stage 2 lgt seems slower then a stock lgt, but the speedo moves WAY FASTER. even if i didnt have one i would vote for the lgt hands down. the lgt gets the tank built sti engine. lots of guys at the lgt boards are pushing 300+/300+ (crank) with no drivetrain problems. not sure how much is left to squeeze out of mazdas 2.3 setup. mazda really needed a hoodscoop or a fmic. wtf are they smoking?
almost felt like i was on the lgt boards after reading all your posts.
