...'cause a $50K price point falls into the BLING! category. The only more nondescript looking car in this category is the RL.

We could go into the inside v. outside debate again but I think that the point I'm trying to make is that the inside is so fucking amazing that it more than makes up for the outside.

Unless you're the kind of person that really wants the outside and the inside could look like a '78 Fairmont.

No way, $50k isn't what it used to be, an E class is hardly bling, the same could be said of the 5 series. A lot of people who purchase these cars want a nice conservative car that doesn't draw unwanted attention. People in the 20-35 age bracket are not the target market with these cars and they aren't going to design them with us in mind. Usually the older one gets the more conservative they become, they have more money and don't want to stand out.

Sure it sucks for kids who want to buy cars like these, but there are still a few cars that fall into the bling category.

Comparing apples to apples, 08 vs 08, that is a good comparison, I think if it were my only car I would still go with the M45, and the Lexus if I had another fun car to drive. But a chipped 535i would probably be a lot of fun as well, too many cars not enough time It certainly is a great time in history to be a car guy.

The W123 is e a s i l y the most stylish E class to date, particlarly when equipped with the 321 AMG Sport Pkg.

Without overstating the obvious (ad nauseum), the Infiniti M, BMW 5 series, Lexus GS, Acura RL, MB E class and Audi A6 are premium sedans that are target marketed to people like me: a well compensated professional between the ages of 35 and 45 who have the desire for a performance sedan. Trust me, while me and my colleagues may want some utility (i.e.: four dours, functional back seat and trunk) we would prefer something with some flash (i.e.: visual appeal and performance) to go along with that utility. That said, the "blingier" cars in this category (M, 5 series, and E class) lead this class in sales for a reason.

Then again, I live in the NYC area where us old folk are bit more "contemporary" with our tastes than our more hinterland counterparts.

Me, I love the M... the wife, she loves the G. In fact, the GS is on her short list for her next car. Not sure what I would get if it was up to me... I kind of like the lines of the GS better as well, but I know the M is a better drive.

Honestly, you can't go wrong either way... so test drive them both and pick the one you like best.

Infiniti improved the interior for 2008.

New blue/white interior lighting and switches, etc...

M45! It has won almost every comparison in the mid luxury segment. It took the #1 spot as best luxury car in consumer reports and replaced the LS430. Interior quality is better than the GS imo and if you look on clublexus, you'll see that many agree. Plus i think the GS is ugly. The GS430 was the start of Lexus using cheaper parts. Just do a search on the M here or look on the infiniti website for reviews

Neither. Get the 5 series, whether new (535i) or old (530i). You are already spending a lot of money, get the best sports sedan in the midsize class.

Consumer report? Only if you want to buy appliances. Or some transportation tool that's reliable. Not for a luxury sports sedan.

From sources like Car and Driver and Road and Track to Consumer Reports, the Infiniti M resides at the top of this segment. (Though I am partial to the E60 by a hair over the M....but then again, I have spent a lot of time in the E60.)

I just came back from a business trip and had an '08 M35 rental car (no options, had one of those Hertz navi units).

They changed the gauges (although the "solar eclipse" is still there, except in blue) and lighting, and also the arrangement and style of the buttons. The rain sensing wipers are cool and actually work, and the passenger seat is much more comfortable. It was a minor but effective facelift. Besides the gauge colors, the ambiance lighting, button lighting, and even analog clock lighting are white or blue.

I gotta honestly say that I like the orange lighting better because it adds more character to the interior.

Since we are comparing the 2006 models: 545i > GS430 (barely) > M45....the M loses me on the inside.

Now if we are talking 2008 models: Jag XF Supercharged ($63K) > GS460 ($57K) > 550i ($71K) > M45 ($57K) > E550 ($68K)

The prices I put are how I would build them. The BMW and MB were knocked down a few spots because of how ridiculous the $$$ has become (and this is coming from a BMW/MB homer).

To be honest, you really couldn't go wrong with either car.

Thumbs up

Well today I test drove the gs430 and yes, as someone posted it is a cruiser . I thought I was going to fall asleep and for some reason the car felt floaty, I am 35 and felt like 50 in this car. I think next week when I test drive a 2007 M45 I will have a better understanding and make my decision. BTW after my almost 1.5HOUR test drive the salesman seemed uneasy, looked at him and told him ,if I am paying $50,000 for this vehicle I better make sure I feel right about it, I think he was just a little fustrated. I filled up the gas tank. No way a dealer will take a car back a week later ,so I better be sure. And to all who have posted a BIG thank you.

Its a shame...the RL has a nicer interior than both the GS and the M....I just don't get how they dropped the ball so hard on its exterior.

Yeah man, Jag's dead they died somewhere between when they dropped the XKE and when Jackie Stewart sold his F1 team to FORD and suddenly we have the Jaguar F1 team.

But on topic, it's beaten to death but M is a Sport Sedan, G is a Luxury Sedan, they don't really compete with each other.

Go to http://www.infiniti.com/compare/app?...=Model.Compare, select an Infiniti M trim and then note the default competitors listed. NOTE: The Lexus GS is what Infiniti sees as one of the prime competitors to its M lineup.

Wow. I didn't know the LS 4.6 liter V8 was installed in the GS for 08. It seems like it has many of it's characteristics.(8spd etc...)
