R&T's numbers are reliable in the sense that the publish what they get. There are no corrections involved. Which explains their sometimes slower numbers.
I have also heard that R&T's numbers are slower because they test the cars as daily drivers - making full shifts for example versus full gas clutch only shifts. They basically want to show what performance you would get if you actually owned the car. I don't think most people on this board are powershifting everytime they are racing.

06 Si put down 197.
Honestly, every dyno from tov has made that specific car the 'underrated car of the year' if they were to start giving awards for such a thing. You'd think a website like that would just go the dynojet route to end all confusion without having to add theoretical wheel/tire weights/tire tread grip/ ball hang back on after testing hub hp etc.

197hp my ass for sure, this must have all been before my 20 McNugget order from McDonalds and then picking up my fatass friend on route for the 1/4 mile run. The car is no damn faster than an rsx, AND IT HAS AN LSD, yet it dynos out the ass, SURE.

2nd of all, there is no real test TO TEST 0-60, it like buying one of those dash testers. I remember when the rsx-S from c&d got a 6.1/.2 which seemed very optimistic to say the least to numerous online communities. Even as club-rsx tried oh so hard to pull off that kind of performance, they final managed a notuh. In the end its just mag hype.

Against a new Mustang GT from 80-110 and lost by only 1 car? Not bad, those new GT are pretty fast.

Here is a few Si clips I found, they're pretty nice little cars

I don't dig the back of the Si's and the spoiler is a little awkward for my taste. Though thr front looks nice, esp with HID's

Sorry man - I didn't hear I read it in the mag. They were testing the new Z06 when it first came out and were getting 0-60 times of like 4.5. There were a ton of readers writing in asking what was up since all other mags and dealer claims were rating it under 4 seconds. The editors of R&T said that they make full complete shifts taking their foot completely off the gas between shifts - just as you would with a daily driver.

Actually, I found the article. Here is the quote, "Our philosophy in acceleration testing for the past 58 years is to reach results that an above-average driver/owner can also duplicate; it is not our goal to record the absolute quickest time while abusing the car....Chevrolet reports its acceleration figures using the speed-shifting technigue (no-lift throttle during upshifts), which can turn in faster times but is not conducive to powertrain longevity."

Sorry man, but you just got

They dont come with HID. Only Honda that has HID is the s2000.

Keep in mind that Civic SIs are hard to come by. Most dealers add a markup so it may be difficult to get one at MSRP, unless you are willing to wait a while.

I was about to back ya up beacuse I read that statement from R&T after the whole Z06 deal, but it looks like you got things covered

SpeedyV6: An S2k puts down around 210-215 at the wheels. Regardless, its considerably quicker than an Si.

jnumata do u have an si? I have a galaxy grey one. It is a sweet car. It isn't insanely fast but it handles great and is a blast to drive/ very practicle and imho the best blend of a car for me.
A stock si is rated at 197 hp. It isn't going to put down 197 on a dyno. here is one that put down 197 with I/H/E
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1569592
dyno's on a stock si have been put out up to 188 hp, not to bad.
IMHO it is a great car for the money, but it clearly isn't an s2000 etc.

It's not like I thought I was going to win. Just thought I'd have some fun. Wouldn't you try if a chick in convertible mustang was edging you on?

Perhaps some magazines under-rated the Si in 1/4 performance. If the 2006 Civic Si can do 15.2 or even 14.9 (for argument sakes, between 15.2 ~ 14.9) that's damn good for that little car.
I have only seen one on the road and it's sexy. I think the new design of the civic looks the best among the past gens. However, with just intake, exhaust... I don't see cutting down to 14.2. I'll give it at 14.6 for a really experience 1/4 mile driver because many of them are rookie drivers. How many of them really hit the tracks and can really hault down 1/4 that well?...........
Without any kind of F/I, I just don't see the civic doing 13.8.
Unlikely for a small engine, but think I remember reading on clubsi the rsxs running low 14's with i/e/h prob with hondata, same with the celica gts. Think is resonable the si can do the same, maybe even a 13.9 which is really no different than low 14's other than bragging rights.

06 si and 05+ rsx-s in straight line acceleration will depend on the driver. Ive raced a stock Si in my Rsx and beat it badly but i ahve mods. Im gonna go to a 1/4 track sometime soon and try to break into the 13s. not sure if i will becuase im on stock tires.

that is a good comparison. I love the GTi also but there were 3 things that kept me away from even test driving it: the higher price, the UGLY seats unless you pay more for leather and the electrical/everything problems that I would expect from a VW.

Quote from the article
"Honda is around two-tenths of a second slower than the VW, posting a 6.53-second time to 60 mph, and a 14.93-second run at 95.7 mph for the quarter-mile.

."

^ Not bad at all for getting 14.93. But realize it's their BEST run, and I assume many runs are well into low 15s. Have that said, at 14.93 isn't a bad number for 197hp vehicle. So as I stated, running low 14s or 13.9 is kind of impossible without any modification.

I was at the track tonight and saw the new 2006 Civic Si ran 3 times in 1/4 at ATCO raceway.

15.56, 15.3, and 15.4

Pretty impressive. Seems as though the official stock hp is vastly underrrated OR the Si has the most efficient tranny on the market.

Safety definitely was NOT neglected by Honda in developing the Civic coupe.
