Volkswagen (VW) has given the "Love Bug" a makeover. Europe's #1 carmaker, VW revamped the Beetle (called the New Beetle) to scurry among its annual production of 5.1 million cars, trucks, and vans. Along with models such as Jetta and Passat, VW owns a garage full of luxury carmakers -- AUDI, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Other makes include SEAT (family cars, Spain) and SKODA (family cars, the Czech Republic). VW operates plants in Africa, the Americas, the Asia/Pacific region, and Europe

Audi is way overpriced for what they have to offer.
I liked the audi's all wheel drive, but the cls's with l slip is almost as good imho for most practical needs.
To answer the original poster, the CLS is a tremendous value and a great all around car. I would probably take it too over a new A4 too. Good luck with the car.

Audi is a subsidiary of VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group, the parent company).
VW bought Audi many decades ago. Before that Audi was an independent company, with the name of Auto Union (or something like that).

my mother JUST got a A6, AUDI HAS 100K WARRANTY, FREE SERVICE CHECKUPS TWICE A YEAR (INCLUDING BRAKES).
she was originally going to get an A4 3.0.
personally, u get a lot more of a car in the CLS than u do a 1.8T, but putting when putting an equal amout of cash into both cars, the Audi has ALOT of room for improvement. and the audi cud outhandle a FWD Honda.
the CL is more rare and hotter tho, and a better deal, value wise, overall

"Many people say Audi has the best interior, in my eyes Audi has one of the ugliest interiors."
I agreed. Drove an A6 in Germany and really disliked the interior. I can't get over the red lit interior either. I guess I'm one of the few.

This is another example of posts here that just make me scratch my head. What I commonly see here is people trying to compare the CL-S with another car based on just one aspect that the CL-S may have in common with another car and then try to justify why the CL-S is better or worse than that car.
1. The CL-S is a longer and wider car than the Audi.
2. The CL-S comes standard with 40 more HP (comapring V6- V6).
3. German cars are known for offering the best riding/handling/"driving comfort" experience. They are also known for better integration of build quality (expemting current reviews of M-B quality). (Just stating facts, not just an opinion).
4. Japanese cars are known for better reliability.
In my opinion, you have to look at each car independently and look at them as apples and oranges and list the pros and cons of each. Trying to compare them as "apples to apples" is not always a completely valid comparison. The CL-S can be had for about $31K (right?) the A4-3.0 is about $40 when you put the bells and whistles on it to try and equip it like the CL-S (the Audi options come in packages/groups). Plus, the A4 3.0 coupe isn't out yet, so you can't even fairly compare Coupe to Coupe!
Having owned a VW product (AKA Audi), I can tell you that the initial quality is OK but after the warranty wears off, the car is VERY expensive to repair all of the electronic toys. Audi does not have a very impressive long-term dependibility record.
I view the CL-S as an entry-level luxury coupe that gives you the most bang for your buck at this price point--(I've never gotten a smile on my face from accelerating an A4). Yes you can buy more expensive cars if you want more of one particular aspect or another (riding, nameplate, HP, performance) but you are going to be very hard-pressed to find another car that gives you everything that you get from the CL-S, at this price.

look guys let's not get into a "which car is better" debate. Bunnie already bought her (his?) CL-S and is feeling a lil buyer's remorse. Originally we were helping her feel better but now some of us aren't. Just tell her what she wants to hear...

Actually if you see below, the A4 is a little wider than the CL-S. The CL-S is longer only because of its NOSE.

I test drove an A4 before I bought my CL-S. Hated the turbo lag. That alone is a very big difference. Also hated the condescending way I got treated at Audi. Like it was a big deal to let me drive a car. Everything I wanted was extra -- leather, etc. It was an easy decision to buy the CL-S. Relax and enjoy your car.

Thanks to everyone that replied

Silverstein, put a hold on it! There is no way to compare the Audi to the CLS unless you are talking about an S model! If you want to talk mods and AWD, let me introduce you to my next new friend - the Subaru Sti for 31k. However, I will capitulate if you agree to listen to the new Justin Timberlake cd over and over!!

considering these two cars toooooo
hi guys...
have been reading this forum continuously for five hours now.. very informative.. : )
i am choosing between the 2003 CL AT w/Nav, which carsdirect quoted $27,474 and 2003 Audi A4 1.8T CVT with premium package, carsdirect quoted at $27,682.
since i have been driving my 2001 Audi A4 1.8T for 3 years now(great looking car, very good FREE maintenance service, and no major problem), kind of wanted a change, and I am impressed with the Nav system and other features in the 03 CL...
2 major questions in my mind before i can make the decision to go ahead with the CL:
1) there seemed to be troubles with the auto-transmission in the CL, after reading from here and in NHTSA, still cant feel comfotable about the situation (case was closed in NHTSA though), do you guys have any advice/news about that?;
2) is the dealership/service ok with Acura?... I used to own a 97 Integra, have really bad experience with the Acura Customer Service...
any input will be appreciated... : )
peace..

I've thought that same thing, but I've been told it's untrue. The only part they share is the coil packs
Yes, I know they've fixxed that for 2003, but some of the vw watercooled community have treathed to never buy another vw ever again because of the coil problems (but wtf do I know anyways, I'm a aircooled vw guy).
