2000 Acura Integra LS sedan w/ 20K miles only?

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/ctd/2423998563.html

Too good to be true? Well, here's the story if any of you local guys is or was thinking about going to go see it. This car is local and when I first saw it, I went to see it right away because I was shopping for a cheap used car. If this car fits the bill, I was ready to buy on the spot....possibly offering $4500 and may still buy it at $5000 max. But here's the story:

At first glance, the car looks pretty clean, no visible rust, dents, scratches, etc....a few bumper nips here and there but nothing major at all. The interior is cloth and was very clean; no tear or bad smell. All the electronics work, including the moon roof, windows, etc....the radio didn't work bec. it needed the code. No visible leaks. After my initial inspection, I ask for a test drive. The sales guys gave me the key and said go ahead but don't take too long. After 10 minutes of driving, I was back at the dealership. So here's how the conversation went:

Sales guy: So what do you think?

Me: Not bad but it got some issues. (Sales guy looked at me weird)

Me: So you do really think this car has only 20K miles?

Sales guy: Yeap!

Me: How many owners did it have?

Sales guy: 2

Me: Do you also believe this car has never been in any accidents and all its parts are original?

Sales guy: Yeap! Carfax says so.

Me: May I see it?

Sales guy: Sure (as he went inside the office to retrieve the carfax)

After a quick glance at it....

Me: Do you really believe Carfax?

Sales guy: Most of the time, but some accidents don't get reported to insurance and don't appear on there.

Me: True! So do you still believe this car is accident free?

Sales guy: Absolutely!

Me: Come over here. Let me show you something! (Sales guy walked over next to the car)

Me: See this front bumper....over sprayed. This radiator is aftermarket; this front support beam was replaced. A/C condenser and coolant fans are aftermarket. Left fender is re-sprayed.

Me: So what do you think?

Sales guy: Uhh...Uhh...uhhh.....

Me: See the engine? Listen to it. The fans turn on and off with a clicking noise and the engine stutters like it's going to die. A 20K mile Honda engine don't do that!

Sales guy: Uhh...uhh....uhhh...

Me: These tires are worn out and need to be replaced immediately.

Sales guy: Yeah, they're original with the car.

Me: No they're not; they're made in 2007 while the car was made in 2000!

Sales guy: Uhh..uhh....

Me: So what's the lowest you can go on this car?

Sales guy: $6400

Me: Then I'll check back in 3-4 months and see if it's still here.

Sales guy: It'll be sold by tomorrow!

Me: Sure!

Sales guys: It will!

Me: Good luck!

I walked away...thinking to myself....WHAT AN IDIOT!

A summary of the bads:

-front end accident with replaced front bumper, front left fender, front upper support beam, radiator, radiator fan and A/C condenser fan (only visible stuff)

-rear trunk does not close properly

-rear bumper misaligned and looked re-sprayed

-all 4 tires are almost bald....possibly 2/32"

-radio needed code

-A/C blows warm air

-front left caliper makes clicking noise when braking...

-when A/C fan turns on, car jerks and launches forward and clicks loudly while engine stutters

-on bumping roads, the rear thumps a bowling ball is running around

In summary, DON'T BUY THIS CAR!

Sorry for the long post...just thought I shared with you guys!

Tell all your friends to avoid that place. Shitty dealerships should be made known to people.

I try to avoid CL ads where idiots type in all caps. To me it's an indicator of intelligence or lack thereof to a degree.

I went against this thinking a few times and in the end I only proved myself right. Though the guy I bought my car from (he had it for 2 months) incorrectly stated the number of gears it had. And it's a manual.

If you really want to screw over this dealership and prevent them from screwing someone over, ask for the sales manager and tell them of how your conversation was with his salesman! EXPICITLY STATE that the car was in an accident with X things aftermarket on them and that is why you want to see if they can do any better. Once the sales manager knows, he is OBLIGATED to tell the new purchaser that it was in an accident. If he doesn't, he is breaking the law!

Remind him of this if he doesn't give you a decent price! It works very well as a car buying tactic. Someone I know was looking at a car and the battery was leaking and the driver door was from another car. I told this to the sales manager (dealt with him) and said look, this is the issues and I'm offering you this. You can keep the car at the same price and hope it sells knowing that you have to tell the next idiot or car guy that walks in that the car has a different door or you can give me a good deal and I'll take it off your hands. Dealer price-16K. I walked out with 12K OTD for my friend.

Good catch. But how did you know when the tires were made from looking at them?

^They have week of the year and year on them. And IIRC, it's 4 straight digits, nothing to separate.

the DOT numbers indicate what week and year...just look at the last four numbers on the DOT and the first 2 numbers is the week it was built and last 2 numbers is the year it was built........so for example

0907 as last four then it was built the 9th week of 2007.

I've spread the words to several friends already so hopefully if they also spread it, it'll get around pretty quick. Shitty dealers like this shouldn't be dealt with, esp. with your hard earned money.

My thoughts exactly!

That's a good recommendation. But I wouldn't want to waste my time with them knowing I'm not taking a risk with a front end damage car.

If you can get me the VIN i can get the autocheck for this vehicle. I bet autocheck will reveal some stuff that Carfax didnt. It looks frame damaged with odometer rollback.

Excellent eye! Though hard to tell from the pics, it definitely have mis-matching paint with a bunch of over sprayed areas.

I forgot to mention that the front left headlight is water damaged. You can kinda see the discoloration in the highbeam. Also, the center arm rest is broken, as it won't lock into place. And the steering wheel leather is peeling/flaking.

if it was legit (no accidents, smooth engine, etc) it would have been a perfect candidate for a DD sleeper...

As per Autocheck the car has a insurance loss BRANDED title. It was involved in an accident in VA on 4/2/11 in which the airbags were deployed (case #111440340). It is originally from Newport, RI.

Says it's a VA car in the CL ad...

How can anyone look at that front fender and say the car has never been in an accident? Also wondering why the rear bumper has a yellowish sheen on it. Painted while dirty maybe?

I don't think that's a 2000 front bumper either. It's an earlier year bumper.
