1G/2G acura tsx vs 2008 lexus is250 vs 2008 bmw 328i
I am planning on getting a tsx soon but can't decide between the first generation and second generation. Which one is better?

I would certainly take a 1st gen 2008 over 2nd gen that got bloated for no reason. It is just smaller and more communicative. This, or the most recent Civic Si you can afford (not forgetting insurances)

1G 2008. Smaller, lighter, better chassis dynamics, slightly more power (205 hp).

I can think of one person who thinks the 2G TSX was the best car Acura ever produced, bar none, because:
- 2G TSX "much quieter and refined engine noise when you accelerate from 80 to 120mph"
- 2G TSX has "tight turning circle as good as Civic"
- 2G TSX "very timeless aggressive design"
- 2G TSX "is very implanted it pulled 0.86g on C&D test" vs 0.85g of 1G TSX
- The 1G TSX "design is tall and narrow like Corrolla. and certainly much less refined and narrow seats than 2G TSX. 2G TSX is very high quality product. Look at the gauges and steering wheel, wide seats, console with cup holder, expensive mirror design."
- 1G TSX "don't even have chrome door handles" like 2G TSX
- Regarding 2G TSX's interior: "highly ergonoimc interior TSX could compete against more expensive and powerfull cars. its perfection like no other Acura vehcile designed and made before."
But this person is also a loon.

Have you test driven any of them?
No? Do that first.
Yes? Which one did you like best?

TSX/IS250.
First car and you're 18. BMW would cost you more in insurance cost & be higher (in cost) to maintain.
If anything, I'd recommend buying a 2015-2017 compact car like a Hyundai Elantra or lower. Seems like you want the 'cool' or 'nicer' car, but you just need a car. Be assured you have some sort of warranty to protect you if something happens while either going to school/work. Once you finish school or make money, then you can buy whatever you want.

Wise advice proffered above. If it were me (when I was younger), the decisive factor between the TSX and IS250 would be FWD vs. RWD. Power on paper is the same at 205 hp, but how the power's put down makes a lot of difference. So, go and test drive them both and let us know what you end up with.

I think the 1G is starting to really show its age, but I would do a 1G non-tech or else look elsewhere.

Get a decent car, get a good job, save some money, and then get your dream car.

Aesthetically, I'd say a low mileage 6MT 1G 2007-08
Otherwise, 2G wagon
Then 2G V6

Of those, I say TSX.
But I also agree, that something like a CPO Elantra would be a great & affordable 1st car.

First car ever?
Find a balance between safety, reliability, and cost effeciency. You'll be learning a lot with your first car.... don't dump a ton of money into it. The Elantra above is a good idea. Maybe even a 2.0T Sonata. 2G TSX may not be bad if you can find a good deal on one...

Thank you for your input everyone. I cut out the bmw entirely because i dont like the way it drives and feels. It's just between the TSX and IS250 now. I'll try to test drive them and let you know what I end up with.

Buy a cheap car, you (or friends riding in it) are going to destroy it.
My inlaws bought their youngest son (big age difference between my wife and him) a nice saab for college. I checked it out with the FIL when it was delivered and it was in great shape... fast forward a couple years and its never seen a carwash, its all dented up, been key'ed on the door panels, weather stripping falling off, inside of it is a warzone... Just completely destroyed.
If you want something cool that won't get too destroyed, buy a used wrangler, or just buy an old civic that you can trash and not worry about it.

^ Depends on the driver, IMO. My first 2 cars were early 80s Mercedes & even having a dirt driveway, I kept them clean.
Even my Saturn in college stayed clean, but was driven like a racecar regularly.

^ Agreed. None of my cars ever got "destroyed" by either myself or my friends. My first car was cleaner when I sold it than when I bought it. I actually had a not eating rule in my car and none of my friends ever ate or drank in it. If you have decent friends, they won't destroy your stuff.
That said, it is always a good idea to find the balance with cost. I'm sure you want a nice car... but you don't NEED a nice car as your first car. So find a decent one you can live with for a year or so, save some money, get used to driving your own car... then upgrade. Plus, if you get a reasonable first car you can likely sell it for close to what you paid if you maintain it

The Lexus will provide a softer ride than the TSX, but it's incredibly slow. Test drive them back to back if possible.
