1964 Cobra kit car, with a Taurus SHO engine in it...

I'd rock the hell out of this thing...

And if you say that a V8 would have been more suitable...This engine is supercharged with a Paxton blower

And for those that dont know what a SHO engine is, Its a Yamaha built and designed engine that was dropped into Tauruases of almost all years...Putting 220 HP and 220 Lb/ft of tourqe stock, these engine can push about 450 HP with the supercharger on it...

For Pics of my car, Click the link below (in my signature)

The 03 Cobra motors were already supercharged.

And while it is quite impressive, a 427 in that would own this.

That would be sweet, although those '03 Cobra engines are pretty damn heavy and would affect the handling.

One of my next door neighbor spent three years building his pristine Factory Five replica ofa 1966 427 AC Shelby Cobra. He used a small block Ford engine bored and stroked to 331 cubes with AFR heads, a Comp roller cam, 1.7 roller rockers, headers (of course for the side pipes), and a serious after-market intake. He's running 3.73's through a Traction-Loc Thunderbird IRS. He is only putting out a little over 400 HP, but with just 2250 pound to haul around, I see an easy low 11's street machine. One of his friends (who's built two of these babies) has one that has a Kenny Bell (not sure of the spelling) supercharge and has been dynoed at over 450 HP to the rear wheels.

While I respect the SHO engines, no way I'd put one in a replica of such a classic that always held a real American Ford V8 engine.

I think it's pretty neat, it's not like they ripped apart a origional cobra to do it or anything.

Would a 03 cobra engine mess up the handling more than a old iron block small block? Or a big block 427. I wouldn't think so.

The SHO V6 is a gem of an engine, by why wouldn't ford put it in a better platform?

I mean come on, the ford taurus?

I like the cobra, but it needs a v8

The Yamaha V6 was originally intended for a mid engine sports car designed to compete DIRECTLY with the Chevy Corvette, Ford canceled that plan but already signed a contract to buy a certain amount of engines from Yamaha over a certain amount of years...The Taurus was chosen because at the time the general public showed little interestest in the Taurus, and Ford came up with the SHO idea to spice it up...

This is the car Ford had originally planned for the engine:

The overall shape of that car kind of looks like an ugly BMW M1 from back in the day...

v-8 rumble needed

I think the idea of a light powerful V-6 is a novel one....But I also think the Cobra body just needs the low rumble of a V-8. An example of bad use of a V-6 is the Prowler...A bad-ass looking car with a sedan V-6....POSER
