Your correct, the TH400 is a Chevy tranny.

Supras need more rwhp to run fast than typical "drag cars" do.....
I think this is mainly due to the IRS........
btw this is old news.... I mean.... OLD news.

Plus, it turned that 8.42 on 38lbs. of boost, not the 59lbs. that it used to put out the 1500+ on the dyno. Probably closer to 1000hp.

I don't know too many other Chicago street cars that are running 8.4 @ 162. It may be old but its still damn fast.

dude frekin 500 hp is nuts... you generally have to pay around 6 figures for 500+ hp cars stock, BUT FREKIN 1500 HP HOLY JESUS TAP DANCING CHRIST!!! i mean i knew the 4 highest hp cars in the states were supras, but to be sold online. The problem is the cars only purpose was racing, and 79000 miles on a car that has ONLY be raced.. hmm... im sure lots of the parts are still new, but even still... not a daily driver.

crazy thing is, this car was actually "daily-drivable"... not like, daily-drivable in the snow, but, for pseudo-"normal" driving, it was possible.
and remember its about 1750 hp at the flywheel
and yes, the engine requires a little more maintenance than typical engines... premium+ fuels are required..

I know of a lot of drag cars that could be daily drivable. It depends on your definition of daily driver. There is a guy in a 7 second stang that drives his car to local meets. This Supra wouldn't be much fun to drive on a regular basis.

and regarding the Supra (probably) not being much fun to drive on a regular basis -

And there also were some "factory freaks". I know a guy who had a '97 auto. The most basic Supra mod is pulling the VSV actuator hose - this gives you an increase in boost. With JUST this "mod" alone - keep in mind it costs nothing to do it - he was trapping at 114 mph. Weight with passenger was approximately 3650 lbs. You would need about 430 hp at that weight, to trap 114 mph. And incidentally, to trap 107-108 mph (which a stock Supra could do) - you would need 350-360hp.
On top of this, you need more power in a Supra to run the same trap as comparable other cars - Supras are a bitch to launch. So these numbers above are guidelines - the actual figures are probably even higher, for Supras.

Look at NHRA..... they have to rebuild the engine after each and every pass.
