'12 TL vs '12 G37

I posted this in the 4G section, but I figured by posting in Car Talk, I could get opinions from those that don't own a 4G TL's.

Here is the deal, I have been on the ropes between buying either of these cars. The cars in question are a '12 TL SH-AWD 6MT in graphite luster and a '12 G37 sport 6MT sedan. I live in MD and we get snow occasionally, but I have my g/f's awd cr-v to drive in case it does. If I get the TL, I can get 0.9% financing through Acura. If I go with the G, I will finance through my credit union for 1.79%. Here is the pricing for both cars:

'12 G37 Sport 6MT
$38,710 (out-the-door, includes fees/tax)

'12 TL SH-AWD
$36,300 (includes $1,000 loyalty rebate, but no fee's or tax is included)

Both car's will come out to be about the same amount of money, which is making my decision even harder. Opinions?

Well, Car Talk really is not a fan of the 4G TL... so know that right off the bat.

Also, there are a few topics comparing these cars, so snoop around Car Talk and you'll find some info...

As for my vote... G37 all the way.

I'd probably take the G37, but I'm not a fan of the looks of the TL after the 04-08 generation.

I'd go with the Infiniti. Then again, I'm biased. After the MMC of the TL it became much more tolerable.

Why aren't you looking at the G37x? That way you"ll be comparable in both cars.

Can't tolerate anything with a beak ....you know my vote.

They are quoting me $3k more for a comparable G37x. These were similar in price, which is why I compared them. I would agree with your opinion on the beak if it was a pre-redesign model, but the 2012 looks pretty good in my opinion.

Well, seems like your answer is clear.

IMO, the TL is a slightly better all around vehicle than the G37. Really comes down to your subjective preference in looks. If you are unbiased in the looks department, I would go TL.

My vote goes towards the TL. The new face, IMO, is tolerable...enough...to edge out the G37. AWD is a plus, and you could tell yourself over the course of ownership that you saved the $3k difference in G37x VS TL SHAWD.

I would get the TL ... I know ... But I think the G styling is dated and lumpy.

Get the car that you would like driving more!

In 2004-2005, I ended up with a 3G TL because the G35 had more exhaust noise and less attractive interior. Some people prefer having more exhaust feedback. The G37 manual shifter annoyed me when I considered it to replace the TL, but some people don't mind the shifter vibration.

G/L.

have you test driven both cars? give that a shot first if you haven't. while the mmc has made the 4G TL nicer, i'm still not a fan. if i had to choose, i'd pick the G.

I think the AWD is a big plus for the TL, and i like the looks of the 2012 TL and the G37. If i was in your position, i would have a hard time deciding too. Test drive both and see which one you like more, they both seem to be great cars.. Oh and i think the interior of the TL wins over the G37.

I'd see if the G37 price can come down more- maybe that will sway you? Infiniti is looking to blow out G37s it seems, so discounting should be pretty rampant.

That said, I personally would probably get the TL.

I would go with the TL. The TL has more room, its feels more refined, and believe it or not "age-less beauty" is still something Acura invests in. Plus everyone knows Acura's get faster over the years lol

That's a wash in consideration of how both appear on the exterior. But, I do agree with the assertion nonetheless. I'd rather "exist" in the TL's interior rather than the G37 sedan....but I wouldn't look back as fondly at the TL after parking as I would the G37.

Still a beak IMO... just a smaller one. And still not a fan of the rest of the styling. But if you think it looks good, then test drive them both and go from there

I think the MMC 4G TL looks great. Even though I don't use them too often, having the two extra doors is nice.

Looks like I am probably going with the TL. The dealer is giving me a great deal on the car, $35,995 after rebate and 0.9% financing

G37 forsure. Can't get over the look of the TL, even though it has been "refined"

The low end torque of the VQ motor is amazing and the exhaust note is intoxicating. Just something to remember

The MT on the Acura was a pleasure to drive. Has anyone driven the manual for the G, how does it compare?

I guess the other question is whether I want to give up a paid-off car for a car payment.

What are you driving now? How many miles? Why do you want a new car?

If it's paid for, keep it and save your pennies. My TL is almost paid off and I plan to start saving for a weekend car I can pay for in cash.

the TL is not only cheaper, but its the smarter/more bang for your buck choice.

The G style is not that great, a little on the girly side imo. Performance wise, I believe the TL Shawd out does it, and did I mention, AWD?

For nearly 40K on the G, I'd rather go in the BMW 335i direction, or A5.

I would go with the TL...I am not a fan of the G37 sedan. Now if you were looking for a coupe, the G would be a great choice.

Of the two described, I'd go with the TL. 6MT. SH-AWD. Revised walrus nose. What's not to love?

The G is clearly outdated. However I have no doubt that it is the best driving tool here.

I would still take the TL for its better compromise and smoother engine.

If you want uniqueness, the TL is the way to go.....seeing as it apparently hasn't sold nearly as well as the G37 sedan (in my neck of the woods anyway). .....to most, there's just not a machete sharp enough to cut through the TL's ugly foliage.
