04 X5 4.8is or 04 Cayenne S

for the wife who wants a nice SUV and me as an occasional driver who loves sports cars

if you had the choice between these two cars, which one would you take and why?

I've driven the 4.8...it was completely nuts. I like the look of the Cayenne better.

Ya need to have her drive both.

Porsche. Nothing else like it. It would look great with the sport package (nice wheels/exhaust)

NOT an early Cayenne like that. Mind-bending electrical problems with the 2004's, go 2006 and up only to be safe.

You have been warned.....

I think both of those vehicles are not that reliable particularly on those year models..

I would get whichever I loved best. I'm really not a fan of the previous X5 body design so looks alone would go to the Cayenne in my opinion. I'm pretty sure the 4.8 is quite a drive though. Are you only looking at those two? FX45s should be considered as well..great suvs.

I would not get a Cayenne S. The wheels they put on that thing make it look like it's riding on emergency donuts.

this is for the wife? hmmm.... I would go Cayenne, just based on looks and her telling her friends , "I drive a Porsche".

I mean, it won't suck as far as the way it drives, yes?

Cayenee is more "exclusive". X5 is everywhere (almost). Not sure about the price on used cars, but if you are paying about the same, why not go with something that's a bit more exclusive.

I will repeat again, simply because my conscience compels me to.

Do not buy a 2004 Cayenne.

Many of them have electrical problems that would give God diarrhea.

FX45. For the cost of a 2004 Cayenne you can probably get a 2006-07 FX45 with the newer interior.

I would really, really, REALLY encourage you to look at an Infiniti. There are FXs with 200,000 miles on them and going strong. And the owners didn't have to sell a kidney to service it.

Touareg V10 Turbodiesel. Blows both of them out of the water IMO.

^553 foot pounds of torque. I've driven the cayenne, 4.6iS, (not 4.8iS) and when I got into a 04 touareg V10, my face turned white. I absolutely fell in love with the vehicle.
