Well, I was going to wait awhile but on Friday night I picked her up! 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic. It's exactly what I wanted so I decided to look no further. Although it's not "perfect" and it had a few blemishes here and there, it's good enough for me. The color combo is what I was looking for as well(green on tan). It's got 77k miles on it and quite frankly, I paid a little more than I wanted to (keeping it private as well) but thats ok, I really love it.
4.0, 4X4, power everything except drivers seat, cruise, trip computer in roof center console, AT, aftermarket Pioneer CD player thats pretty nice, etc., etc...
Enough with that, here's the pics!
I'll get up pics of the interior in a day or two as well.
The first order of business is to switch out the wheels. I don't care for these and I want to put OEM Jeep "Canyon's" on it instead. They are more like a polished deep dish type wheel. They're usually found on Wranglers. Next, is the stereo... I've decided I want this thing to rock and rock hard so it's on the list. As far as everything else, it's gonna get a lift (I'd like to run 32's or 33" tires), rear tailgate tire carrier, CB, offroad lights, possibly a front bumper w/a winch, lockers (f&R), and last but not least, a snorkel.
Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Suite. I love the look of the "classic" Cherokee. Probably why I'm so interested in the new Patriot, which looks a little bit like a modernized Cherokee.

Are you going to actually off road it? The stuff you want to do would not be worth it if your not. I would only have gotten the 5 speed. I was looking at one before I got my Explorer. I didn't like the ride, or the interior. Also those stupid boxed in door jambs. I tripped getting in & out of all the ones I test drove.
Big step down from the CL. But if it serves your purpose it's all good.

LOVE IT!!!!! My beater car is an 89 Cherokee with 120k on the clock. With regular maintenance and a new exhaust, the thing has been running bulletproof forever now. I am looking to get a new one as a beater as well as keep this old reliable. And best part is that while all those new expensive BMW, Mercedes and Lexus trucks are stuck in the snow, i just put her into 4wd lo and take charge right on by them. I take it off roading too. Good luck with it. Treat it right and it will live a long and happy life.

Of course it depends on what he will use it for, but I think its a step up from a CL... simply because you can have a lot more fun driving off road than on.

Ahh, while you might have a valid point that driving off road might be more fun that driving on road (i'd say otherwise, because I lack numerous experiences in the area, but in my few experiences, I can see where you're coming from), you are neglecting the fact that one spends much more time on road than driving off road. Anyway, its definitely a really personally driven decision that most of us won't understand. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Have fun driving over things that we wouldnt dream about

True, it entirely depends on the individual. I've always driven sports cars, just switched over to Jeeps a few months ago, and I've been having a blast. Definitely miss the s2k on the highway to get to the trails though.

Its an entirely different vehicle from an explorer. Jeeps are designed to be off road capable in stock form, so the ride is a little rougher. They don't put much effort into convenience features or interiors. Get a Cherokee off road and it will shine.
It's a nice SUV. I know some people with them, just not for me.

Fuzzy, to answer your question, I do plan to take it offroad. I bought this because I like to camp as well as go offroading with friends. What better way to participate than purchasing the most capable offroad vehicle available that has room for all my camping gear. I got pretty tired of riding shotgun on these trips and wanted to drive myself. Plus my beater Blazer eats gas.
I used to have an '01 F150 4x4 before I had the CL and loved the offroad capabilities. It's nice to have that again except now my fuel milage will be a bit better.
Believe it or not, the interior is prety nice (I'll get pics later) but it does ride pretty rough compared to any other SUV. I attribute that to it's solid front axle and rear leaf spring suspension. Rides like a truck, I have no problems with that.
I don't find this "a step down from the CL". I just see it as a different type of vehicle all together. Either way, I'm really enjoying it.
Thanks for all the comments guys!

It's gonna get a kick ass stero sys., lift (obviously), bigger tires/wheels, tint the front winders, snorkel, diff lockers, bumpers/winch, sliders, skids, CB, K&N, possibly TB spacer, lights, roof carrier, etc. Pretty much every red-neck, 4-wheelin' thing I can put on it. The list is quite long and extensive but it will be known as...
"Project XJ"

I now drive an accord....
Nice ride chris
I have a 91 explorer sport as my "beater" and even though I like jeeps I went with the explorer cause I didn't want to be classified as another jeep owner haha. No offense to you or other owners but some of them can be qutie rude when your offroad. Plus I like taking my exploder right where most of the jeeps go

I know what you mean though, I've experienced it too. Even though some of my buddies have them, none of them are like that. We've even talked about how rude some of them can be on the trails. I find Land Rover people the worst by far though. I find it amusing when they break too...
Does your Explorer have a solid axle up front?
