The CTS-V can be had for about $47k loaded. 400 hp/ 390 tq feels pretty damn nice. The 6-spd is the easiest damn thing to drive. I suck at driving manuals and I had that thing ripping through gears. Definitely hard to beat the price.

The '04 M3 is going for $49,900. There is no way anyone can get an '05 M3 for less than $55k unless you choose absolutely no options. Equipped with the track package I was looking at $57-58k. The car is very quick feeling and lighter on it's feet than the CTS-V. However, there was a noticable lack of torque compared to the V8 in the other two cars.

The S4 is undeniably the most tame car in the group. Very understated and very dull feeling in the steering. Powerful engine but the quattro eats up a whole bunch of the juice. The quattro makes the car the obvious choice if weather is an issue.

I think I like the S4 the best of the group (in 6-spd form, of course) but I just can't get myself to buy such an expensive car that is (according to mags) slower than my current CLS.

The RL is simply the best deal for the money, with every other car, I go over with options and end up between $55,000 and $60,000

The upcoming Porsche Cayman, although it might not come out until '07. The Cayman S will be out in a few months, but it stickers quite a bit above $50k. The regular Cayman should be good for about 260HP while weighing in around 2800-2900 lbs and start around $48k.

In AT form maybe, but the SLK350 will beat the new Boxster and nearly keep up with the Boxster S. The Porsche will still outhandle and outaccelerate the Benz, but the retractable hardtop is damn slick. The V8 SLK AMG has been running high 12s in the 1/4! That's C6 territory for not too much over the price of the vette.

$15,000 more than a C6. Great car, but MB has overpriced that puppy too.

how much is the SLK AMG? and how much is the SLK350? do they even offer a 500?

i think the last gen SLK was girly, esp. with the pussy engines. but the new one is leaps ahead as far as style and power.
