Detailed Features
Adjustable Display Contrast: The display contrast may be adjusted for better viewing from various angles and in less than optimum lighting conditions.
Dual Info Display: There is a portion of the display that can be set to show the source name (FM1, FM2, CD, etc.) or the clock, while the main display line shows CD Text, the track number and elapsed time, or the tuner frequency.
Spectrum Analyzer: You may select from 10 spectrum analyzer patterns, turn the spectrum analyzer off or select auto mode (auto mode shows all 10 patterns, one after another). When the spectrum analyzer feature is active, the selected spectrum analyzer appears along the lower portion of the display window.
Motion Display: When the motion display is turned on, blue and white lines illuminate and accentuate different various areas of the display window. You can select Motion Display 1, Motion Display 2, or Off. The Motion Display 1 mode displays the blue and white accents and activates the demo display feature; the demo display appears about 10 seconds after the unit is turned off. The Motion Display 2 mode displays the blue and white accents and deactivates the demo display feature.
Motion Display Label: You may enter up to 64 characters that will scroll across the bottom of the display when the Motion Display 1 mode has been activated and the unit is turned off. To see the motion display label, the unit must be turned off by pressing the "off" button for less than 2 seconds; briefly pressing the "off" button will turn off audio output, but the clock display and face illumination remain on. If the "off" button is pressed for two seconds, the unit will be turned completely off, and the motion display label will not be shown.
CD Compatibility: This unit will play prerecorded CDs and finalized CD-Rs. The unit reviewed by Crutchfield played a CD-RW disc, but Sony does not claim compatibility with CD-RW discs. Results with CD-RW discs will vary depending on the quality of the discs; there are audio CD-RW discs that this unit will not play.
CD Text Capable: When used with a CD Text encoded CD, this unit will display the CD text information.
Dynamic Soundstage Organizer (DSO): When the DSO function is used in a vehicle equipped with speakers mounted low in the front doors, it creates virtual speakers in the dash to raise the soundstage and help make sounds more clear.
EQ7: You may select one of the following EQ presets: Vocal, Club, Jazz, New Age, Rock, Custom, or Xplod. For each preset, you can adjust the following frequencies: 62Hz, 157Hz, 396Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6.3kHz, and 16kHz. You can adjust each frequency from -10dB to +10dB, in 1dB increments.
Mono Subwoofer Preamp Outputs: In addition to stereo front and rear preamp outputs, this unit includes one set of 2.0V subwoofer preamp outputs. Although there are two female RCA subwoofer outputs, the same signal is carried by both connections. A low-pass filter (see below) can be used to filter high frequencies from the signals output by the subwoofer outs.
High-pass and Low-pass Filters: This unit includes selectable high and low-pass filters. When activated, the high-pass filter affects the preamp and speaker outputs for the front and rear channels. The low-pass filter only affects the subwoofer preamp outputs. The cutoff frequency for each filter may be set to 78Hz or 125Hz, and each filter has a 12dB/octave slope. If no filtering is required, you may turn off one or both filters.
Station Memo: You can assign a name of up to 8 characters in length to each tuner preset station. Station Memos can be used with the List-up function to locate a station.
SSIR-EXA Adaptive Reception: The SSIR-EXA tuner is equipped with "Adaptive Reception". The Adaptive Reception feature has two modes (IF AUTO and WIDE) for optimizing FM reception. The "wide" mode decreases the tuner''s selectivity but results in better frequency response. The auto mode automatically adjusts the tuner for a good balance between frequency response and minimum station-to-station interference. The Adaptive Reception feature cannot be turned off.
Source Tone Memory: Each source (AM/FM/CD/Changer) can store its own bass level, treble level, and subwoofer volume level settings.
Sound and Display Settings:
Clock: Allows you to set clock time (clock displays in the middle of the display)
Beep: Turns the confirmation beep On or Off. When the beep is turned On, the unit emits a beep when a function is selected. This beep sound is from the internal amplifier only, not the preamp outputs
English/French/Spanish: Changes the display language

TV/Video: You can connect an optional Sony TV tuner and TV monitor to this unit. This unit will automatically memorize the strongest TV signals (up to 12 channels). You can store a name for each channel (up to 8 characters) and display it by using the List function (displays on the TV monitor). Disc info that is stored in memory and radio station names can be displayed on the TV monitor.
Simultaneous Play: The Simultaneous Play function allows you to watch the TV and listen to a CD or an MD (in a connected changer) at the same time.
Note: The Simultaneous Play function does not work while you are listening to the radio.
