I learnt the hard way that the warranty is not honored by CompuStar unless it's installed by an authorized dealer.
It was a nice alarm system while it was working. It was my luck when that thing died on me.

serf21,
If your friend could lower the price a bit, I'd like to give it another try. I paid a little less last time on ebay.

we only have the kits direct from compustar, usually everything is in there, whatever else may be needed, the installer should have them....

its not a special unit to make it work on the manual trans. There is a wire in the brain that you cut that makes the unit a manual or automatic trans unit. The instructions for that are in the installers manual which comes in the package.

what do you mean by proximity arm/disarm? you mean it unlocks the car and locks the car automatically when youre within a certain distance?

could you find a link somewhere with all the stats on this alarm? I'm trying to find it and can only find the WSS-AS model.

Thats exactly what I mean, I spoke to one of the tech support guys about it and they told me the us models dont have it. It is stated in the manual but its just not available. That is why I asked.

The range on this sucker in open space and fresh battery is ridiculous. I tested it and was surprised. I could not hear the chirps (silent nite) and could barely see the signal lights, but the remote told me it was functioning. I had my gf on cell phone and she told me siren chirped and lights were flashing. However, as soon as I walked behind a house, no more worky.

i just picked up my car, man is this system amazing! no only does the horn/siren that it comes with sounds so much better than the stock alarm, but range of the starter and lock is amazing

as for the proximity detector, when they installed it, they asked me if i wanted it, but since my room in less than 50 feet from my driveway, i opted not to have it set. still reading about the functions, but no more worrying about whether i locked my doors or not. im going to get a window module so i can be sure windows are also closed, as well as a motion detector so that if anyone comes within a certain range of my car, it will beep to warn them (also so i can chase down people who ding my doors!

Can you see if u can get me one of those proximity detectors and possibly some install instructions. I may also be interested in a full kit but not sure if the person wants it just yet.

the proximity sensor is built into the remote/unit....(that is if youre talking about the function that locks the doors automatically when youre far from the car, and unlocks atuomatically.....

if what you want is a motion sensor so the car warns a person if they get too close to the car, this is what i bought:

It may not be that hard to do but I dont think you want to try with this alarm. You have to find Tach sensing wires bypass the transponder and disarm the factory alarm. Its a great alarm, but if u dont know what you are doing I suggest u let a professional do it.

Can you get the 2WSS-AS model? If so, how much?

Is it worth the price difference? Are there any differences between the 2 models besides the range?

no one carries the 2wfm here because no one wants it

many people have ordered it, but when they saw how big the remote was, and since the difference in range is minimal, they went for the 2wfm instead....

difference between the two models is that the remote for the 2wss vibrates, but its about double the size of the 2wfm remote....thats pretty much the only difference (and the the 2wss may have problems sending signals through certain obstacles such as buildings, walls, trees,...)

I disagree. I had the fm then I did the upgrade to the SS and its a hell of a lot better than the fm. The range is incredible, I have had no problem with buildings and trees etc. I work in an industrial area, I am inside a concrete building, my car is accross the street and I have no problems communicating with it. When i had the fm I would have to go outside to get it. The downside to the SS as u mentioned is the size of the remote and its power use. Its a monster on batteries.

... and you cannot program the configurations. You have to have a dedicated programmer to do so. :thumbsdn:

in the states, it may be good....but in Canada, due to radio-wave regulations or something of the sort, the SS doesnt work to its full potential and gets about the same range as the FM. but anyhow, you get about 1000 meter range with the FM, doubt you will ever need to start the car from further than that!

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I've decided against buying the compustar. For my needs, my audio guy suggested I get the autopage alarm...for a couple hundred more, I got a ton of extra features.

You're right, couldn't even find a local price to match yours...closest was a bit over $400. Free bump for an awesome deal though.
