ported gives u a more deeper "thump", basically more low end
sealed is a more tight sound, basically no air gets out so not much "thump" but a bit more crisp
personally, i think it all depends on what kind of sound u are looking for. i have a dual 10" vented box and it sounds amazing.

yeah im not selling the box with the sub tho lol i spent alotta money for that deep ported box
as for why its good...here u go i copied n pasted loll
Vented enclosures – also known as ported or bass-reflex systems – are more complex than sealed boxes, but the extra construction work required to install a vent has its rewards. Vented boxes are more efficient than their sealed counterparts, since they channel sound waves from the front and rear of the cone into the listening environment. Other virtues of the vented design include better reproduction of low bass, a reasonably flat response curve, and low distortion – provided the box is properly constructed. A vented enclosure will generally have a better low frequency extension for a given response shape (alignment) but would require a larger enclosure.
this sub is already one of the top end subs on the market
a ported box just makes it that much better

im looking to save space and weight. i have 1 15 rockford hx2 in sealed 2.5 foot box running 500 watts rms. it weighs around 65lbs. i think it hits very hard and i love it. i dont often listen to music above volume 10 with the stock stereo and the 15 works very well with it. ample bass at low volumes. will this 10 do the same?

yeah man this sub will save you alot of space and it will hit harder than many other sub combinations..i run the sub with a 500 watt alpine amp
here are the specs of the sub
10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
Kevlar reinforced pulp cone with Santopreneâ„¢ rubber surround
cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting
frequency response: 26-600 Hz
power handling: 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts per coil)
peak power: 1,500 watts
sensitivity: 83 dB
top-mount depth: 6-7/8"
sealed box volume: 0.5-0.8
ported box volume: 0.6-1.3
i would recommend you run every sub with a ported box because you get better performance from it

Since there seems to be more interest for the sound system as a whole set.
I can sell the entire system including alpine type R 10 inch Sub, Ported Box, and alpine 500 watt amplifier for $350. All items used for 6 months and in perfect condition

I'm pretty sure you can do that. I didn't install the system myself but I can control the bass with the bass knob on my 99' TL.
When I mess with the balance and stuff it doesnt shut off either which means its been tapped into my stock sub, since the stock sub doesnt work anymore. I do have a stock radio and stock door speakers.

yes i use everything stock
i had best buy install my system
they just use a bypass so you can use the sub with all the stock stuff and the alpine amplifier
i would never want to change the deck and that kind of stuff in a semi luxury car
i would only recommend to use a sound system on these cars with the stock stuff

I really just want a little improved sound cause the bose is good but I like my music more crispy with a little bass than super loud ya kno......and I don't want to touch the nav cause its flush in the dash and I really don't want any audio shop ripping apart my RL so if I can use the stock stuff i may be interested.......

theres no need for you to take anything apart from your car
any install shop will know how to make the sound system work with the stock units.
99% of people on this site use their stock units such as the nav and reg 6 disc cd changer with their sound systems.
