One quick question for you fellow Canucks.. I need to get some winter tires, so I think I am going to buy a Winter Tire package from Acura.... Which of the following would you recommend? I am leaning towards the Blizzak LM-22's, but would like to get a little more feedback on this before I pick up.
Winter Tire/Wheel Package (17" Alloy and Blizzak WS-50) $1,708.88
Winter Tire/Wheel Package (17" Alloy and Blizzak LM-22) $1,808.88
Winter Tire/Wheel Package (17" Alloy and Michelin Pilot Alpin) $1,808.88

Hi, I currently own a 04 TL with the Blizzak WS50 with the OEM 17" wheels. I had a deal with the tires, but I'm not impressed by those tires.
Of course the car is powerfull, so it's very easy to make the front wheels spin, but even there in the curve they are not that great.
If you buy those WS50, I suggest you to buy the size 215/50R17. It's cheaper and better since it's not as wide as 235. The height is the same as the OEM tires....
Next time I think that I'll try the Nokian winter tires....

Hi there folks.
New to this board and new to a TL.
Just picked up my Abyss Blue '05 TL AT yesterday. If it were not for my daughters skating lessons and then the primary school holiday concert I would have been driving all over and been lovin' it.
The kids think it is terrific (all 3 of them). That was one of my requiremnets. Luxury, sport and room for a family of 5 in one package and I got it in spades.
I only have two words

Congrats on your purchase.
If you don't mind me asking how much off MSRP did you get? I'm planning on buying an 05 TL sometime either mid-March or mid-April.
Congrats again!

2) when a call comes in, the speaker will tell you and you can hit the button on steering, the mic is above you and caller voice is coming from the speakers.

Snow and Freezing Rain
Just got into my office in Mississauga this morning in my 2 week old TL.
Anyone in the Greater Toronto Area today will know that it is pretty dodgy out there.
My TL (AT) was great in the snow. Using the all seasons that came with the car and the VSA off, I had little problem. Even though the snow was deep enough that the air dam at the front acted like a plow at times.
What a great car.

I find that the VSA is great for unexpected or surprise wheel spin that may occur when it is raining. In the snow I expect wheel spin, plan for it and use it. You often need some good wheel spin. This is why it has an off switch.
In a previous car that had traction control, I was backing out of my driveway over the snow plow hump - I was in a hurry and did not have time to shovel - and got a little stuck. No problem, happens all the time. A litttle rocking back and forth, some bold acceleration and out you go. But this was not happening and I started to smell burning brake pads. Well the traction control was grabbing the wheels when I needed them to spin and was probably on the verge of causing a serious problem with my braking system. I turned it off and out I went.
Driving in the snow requires boldness (not stupidity) to not get stuck and the VSA gets in the way of that.
Cheers

VSA off is the way to go in the snow. Especially with the stock 4 season tires. FWD does have some advantages if you can wheelspin. I'm not talkin about snapping the tach to redline wheelspin, I'm talking about moderate wheelspin.
In the snow with moderate wheelspin you can give the throttle a quick tap an the wheelspin will send the snow/slush flying and your tires will be able to dig in. With my previous car I used to do this all the time, with good snow tires, and the amount of control you get is just great.
Many people make the mistake of hitting the brakes when they get sideways in the snow. In a FWD, you want to do the opposite; hit the throttle. If you hit the brakes the tail will come around. If you hit the throttle and point the wheels towards the road, FWD will pull you along that line and keep you on course. Sure, your tail will waggle a bit and it feels like you've lost control, but it reality you're much more in control than being on the brakes. Too many people make this mistake when ging around curbs. They start to feel the characteristic FWD understeer and then they hit the brakes, in the turn mind you. Next thing you know, you're in the ditch. Unfortunately, VSA does the same thing. It detects increased YAW rate and starts 'tapping' the brakes and backing off the throttle.
I took a special skid cntrol course many years ago that teach the basics of spin recovery etc. I wish this was tought in driver's ED for everyone. Too many people out there don't know their car, don't know how to drive "on the edge" and have self confidence issues; under-confidence for cars and over-confidence for SUVs and other AWD cars.
Fancy electronics do have their place and they work very well. But too many people rely on this and simply don't know how to properly drive at the limits. Personally, I leave it on most of the time because I know the benefits of VSA. But I also know when to turn it off and I can handle the car when it's off.
Now, if only I could turn off the damn ABS!

Has anyone here in the GTA done any mods to their TL?
I'm interested in putting on some 19's, and improving the suspension and handling.
Lemme know

Also, I never deal with salespeople. If you know exactly what you want just call the sales manager at the different Acura dealers and say " How much over invoice do you want to make on this car?" Be ready to do the deal and know the invoice cost ahead of time from car cost canada (or another source).

hey Canadian TLers, i'm in Vancity. I'm not ready to buy my 19's yet and i'm needing to replace one of my shitty 030s due to one too many punctures. Hopefully i can grab one from someone who isn't using theirs as it would be a shame to buy a new 030 when i'm planning to replace them later anyways.

Possible Lemon?
Picked up my TL (5AT/Anthracite) yesterday . Nice move up from a 94 Accord. First warranty service today with 'Check Engine' light on less than 24hrs after delivery . Apparently, its the Catalytic. Still in observation.
Driving a TSX loaner for now. Anyone else with initial delivery issues?

I know a place on Hastings and Commercial and my 2 friends and i bought rims and tires from. The owner is a short asian dude and he was able to beat any price in town by a few hundred dollars or more. First he will give you a very decent price and sometimes you can negotiate a better price. Lets just say...alot of ppl bought rims and tires from the dude. I have not been there for quite a long time since my previous car. But you can give it a try. Just make sure you know what you want. Let us know how you do? Goodluck!!

it's not in canada but I can't find a canadina supplier with a larger selection or lower prices....
www.wheelmax.com
These rims are goin' on my baby in the next few weeks...
you'll never guess the price, so I'll tell you... $979 USD FOR THE RIMS AND TIRES!!!! and $150 for shipping to Canada (free shipping within the states).
So for $979, plus $150, plus approx $60 duty.... then converted.. I'm looking at just under $1500.00 for rims and tires to be ballanced and shipped to my house, ready for install. Can't beat that price.... and it doesn't hurt that they're an imitation of @cur@-tl's rims.. ( $3500 for the rims ALONE!! pic, below... ) His are the SSR GT1's and my are imitation SSR GT3's ... difference being the bolts around the lip..

Appreciation and Some Other Questions.
Thanks for all ppl who answered my question. They were very useful.
I have another question for Canadian Tlers. Canadian TLs have yellowish DRL instead of foglight, I think all of us know. Just about 2 weeks ago I purchased a pair of silverstar 9005 (HB3) light bulbs. I put one in and compared, silverstar looked whiter but still wasn't completely white. I thought I was the problem of the light bulbs and I purchased another set of 2 5100K super white lightbulbs. This time it's whiter but still has yellow...
So the question is, is there anyone who has replaced their DRL with completely white light bulbs? If so, which brand did you buy and where did you buy them?
P.S. I checked the owner's manual. The power output is 55W 12V, not having enough power to light up the bulbs shouldn't be the problem... (only if the manual is right)
THANKS in advance.

Series Circuit:
+12V ------O-------O-------Ground
DRL DRL
Each light only gets 50% of the voltage and thus the reason why they are not getting as bright as they should.
Parallel Circuit:
DRL
+12V ------_----O--------Ground
+12V ------ ----O------- Ground
DRL
Each light gets 100% of the voltage and the lights are as bright as they are designed to.
You might try all the different light bulbs you wish, it will never get as bright as it should unless you re-wire the circuit which I advise against as It is wired to the gauge circuit supplying 6 volts in its current configuration. Modifying the circuit would put 12 Volts to the gauge circuit which can result in it's failure.
Best regards from Montreal, Canada
