Nice shots Dan. While I've seen over 20 species of birds in my little back yard, I've never seen an owl and cannot entice the Pileated to come near.

Love the owl! I've heard one in our woods, but never managed to catch a glimpse. I'm jealous!

Great pics! Did you take those when you visited Conowingo two weekends ago? I may head back up there either Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks Dan. I went again yesterday and got these. I couldn't stay away. I was cooped up in the house all day Saturday…had to break out!

Still haven't been there when the dam is open. That must be fantastic. I'll bet during the week it will be empty. Should be awesome.

I know what you mean -- the place is addicting! I'm heading up there again tomorrow AM and hope to arrive around 7:30. It looks like they'll be running the most generators (3 small, one large) between 6-9am and then again later in the day around 4pm. It's supposed to be sunny and around 50-degrees and I want to get my fix before the really cold weather moves in.

Sunny and 50 WITH the dam open sounds absolutely perfect! I'm so jealous! hmmm….maybe a sick day.

Freudian slip?

Thanks Jeff! It's still a great trip and way to spend some time. Yeah…this working thing can be a real cramp in the hobby.

I am going to try to get up there sometime during Thanksgiving week. Looks like my best opportunities will be that Tuesday or Black Friday (will be crowded to say the least).

I plan to go BF as well, though I did something that we might have bad weather those days.

Do you really think it will be crowded there on Black Friday? AZ meet at the dam! Need good light though.

BF is one of the most busiest days for people, if it's good weather. And would be busy if just so-so weather.

I went on a BF about four years ago! Again it's about getting there early. I haven't done it since because of the traffic on 95.

On BF there could be a couple of hundred photographers there. Definitely a day to get there at dawn when the gate opens. And yes, the ride home on 95 always sucks on BF.

I showed up just before 7:30 today and there were at least two dozen people already there and probably at least 50-60 by 8:30. The number of eagles there today was unbelievable. Unfortunately most of them were on the other shore but I still managed to get some decent pics. I also finally got a long distance photo of one of the peregrine falcons that nests on the dam. I was hoping to catch him (or her) chasing away an eagle or catching a pigeon but no luck. I'll post some more pics in another thread but here's the heavily cropped pic of the peregrine and my favorite eagle photo of the day.

Thanks.

This was shot through a window. He sat about 30 feet from me, and about 10 feet from the platform feeder.

During the summer he will come in and sit on the top of my patio umbrella. He scares everyone away when he flies in, but patiently sits still and waits for them to come back.

Red tailed hawks are one of my favorite raptors. I'm sad to hear that he's injured; hopefully it's not something serious like a wing injury. One of my best friends was an apprentice falconer, something I've dreamed of becoming since I was a kid, and we spent many, many hours hunting rabbits with his red tailed hawk. They're magnificent birds.

fyi, that's a chicken that's being fed by one of our guides, makes it a little less authentic, but I guess made for a good shot. And an iguana...
